Operation is subject to the fo owing two conditions: (i.) this device may not cause harmfu
interference and (ii.) this device must accept any interference received, inc uding interference that
may cause undesired operation.
If the device is used with any antenna other than the one supp ied, the system may not comp y
with the FCC regu ation Part 15.247, Operation within the icense-free band 902 – 928 MHz.
Contact the manufacturer regarding use of optiona high-gain antennas.
WARNING: To satisfy FCC RF exposure requirements for mobi e transmitting devices, a separation
distance of 20 cm or more shou d be maintained between the antenna of this device and persons
during device operation. To ensure comp iance, operations at c oser than this distance are not
recommended. The antenna used for this transmitter must not be co- ocated in conjunction with
any other antenna or transmitter.

2. Overview
2. Overview
The Buckeye Cam X80 Series inc udes wire ess cameras, sensors, repeaters, and actuators. A
of the avai ab e devices work seam ess y together and may be contro ed and monitored with the
X-Series Network Manager software app ication. Before using the X80 Echo, it is important to be
fami iar with X-Series Network Manager. User's manua s and video tutoria s may be found at
www.buckeyecam.com/site/support.htm .
The X80 Echo combines a passive infrared motion detector (PIR), a contact c osure input, and an
RF repeater in a sing e device. When added to an X80 wire ess network, it can be used for any of
the fo owing functions:
● Extending the transmission range of wire ess cameras
● Extending the motion detection range of wire ess cameras
● Triggering mu tip e wire ess cameras from one motion sensor
● Triggering a sing e wire ess camera from mu tip e motion sensors
● Interfacing with other sensor types (i.e. seismic, magnetometer, pressure pad, etc.)

To access the LCD disp ay and pushbuttons, re ease the atch and open the Echo enc osure.
If no buttons have been pushed for some period of time, the LCD disp ay wi go b ank in order to
save battery power. Pushing any button wi wake it up.
Pushing the NEXT button wi a ways advance the disp ay to show the next message.
Pushing the HOME button wi a ways return the disp ay sequence to the first message.
The first message shows the device number (i.e. Echo 1, Echo 2, etc..)
The next message shows the battery vo tage. If both types of batteries
are in use (i.e. AA and 12V externa ), push the change button to togg e
the reading between both types.
The next message shows the Echo seria number and firmware version.
The next message shows the signa to the base.
The signa is shown in dBm and a so “bars”.
The maximum number of bars is 8.
If the Echo cannot get a signa to the base, you may considering trying
to route it through a repeater (see “Setting up a Repeater”).
The ast message shows how the Echo is routed. The defau t is “Base”.
This indicates that the Echo wi be transmitting direct y to the base.
If you need to change the routing see “Setting up a Repeater”.

8. Se ing up a Repea er
8. Setting up a Repeater
One method to extend transmission distance is to use repeaters. Every X80 wire ess device may
be used as a repeater (i.e. cameras, feeder contro ers, Echo, etc.). To setup an Echo as a
repeater, it must first be registered to a base using X-Series Network Manager software (see
“Getting Started”). In the fo owing examp e, an Echo wi be setup as a repeater for a camera. In
other words, a camera wi be “routed through” an Echo.
In this examp e, Camera 2 cannot estab ish a signa
to the base due to a very ong distance, or
obstructions.
Echo 3 is p aced somewhere between Camera 2
and the base where it is ab e to get a good signa to
both the camera AND the base.
Setting up a camera to route through an Echo is done at the
camera.
Open the camera enc osure and push the NEXT button unti the disp ay
shows how the camera is current y routed.
To change the routing, push the CHANGE button. The camera wi now
search for any devices that it can get a signa from.
When the search is comp ete, the disp ay wi show the number of nodes
found (if any). Push the NEXT button to view each node on the ist.
When the disp ay shows the node that you wou d ike to route through,
push the ENTER button.
Now the camera wi try to contact the base through the node that you
have se ected. If it is successfu , the disp ay wi show “...OK”.

9. Connec ing o an Ex ernal Sensor
9. Connecting to an xternal Sensor
The X80 Echo can connect to an externa sensor that has a contact c osure output. This feature
a ows a camera to be triggered by various types of sensors in addition to the motion detector (i.e.
seismic, magnetometer, pressure pad, etc.).
The “Echo to Externa Sensor Connector Kit” (so d separate y) is required to connect to an externa
sensor. This kit inc udes a 9 foot cab e with an X80 Echo connector on one end, and open wires
on the other end. The kit a so inc udes an extra X80 connector. The wiring is shown be ow:
To trigger the Echo, the externa sensor must be wired so that it c oses the connection between
Pins 1 and 3 when it is activated (Brown and Green/Ye ow).
X80 Echo User's Manua v1.2 13
NOT : The “Echo to Externa Sensor Connector Kit” shown be ow
(so d separate y) is required to connect to an externa sensor.
Pin Wire Color Function
1 Brown Input (1K pu up to battery vo tage)
2 B ue Not used
3 Green/Ye ow Ground
NOT : The externa sensor must provide a “dry contact” type output.
Do not connect any vo tage to the Echo pins.

9. Connec ing o an Ex ernal Sensor
Once the Echo has been connected to an externa sensor, the External trigger input must be
enab ed from X-Series Network Manager. To enab e the External trigger input, c ick on the Echo
icon to open the contro pane and then c ick the “Settings” button (see “Echo Contro Pane ”).
C ick Edit or Change to se ect the cameras that shou d be triggered.
C ick the togg e button so that External trigger input is Enabled.
C ick the red pdate button to send the new settings to the Echo.
When the External trigger input is enab ed, the Echo's own motion sensor may sti be enab ed if
desired. If it is enab ed, the Echo wi trigger the camera when either the External trigger input or
the motion sensor is active.
If you do not want to use the Echo motion sensor, it may be set to “off”.
