Make sure to burn only dry, seasoned hardwood in your COMFORT II fire pit. This will ensure a hotter,
cleaner fire with very little smoke. When starting your fire, use cardboard or paper with small pieces of
kindling and two or three dry pieces of split hardwood on top. Always make sure that you clean out your
fire pit after every 1 or 2 fires so there is proper airflow and no wet or damp ash at the bottom of your pit.
Once the fire is burning well, continue to add one log at a time as needed. Adding multiple logs on the
fire at once can cool the fire down and cause more smoke. The average log should be 3-4 inches in
diameter. Spread the fire out evenly and keep some hot coals against the wall of the fire pit to help with
smoke reduction. You may notice a slight flex of the flange when the fire reaches high temperatures.
Once the fire cools, the flange will level back out.
Note: Never fill up your fire pit with yard debris or excessive amounts of firewood as it could cause
structural damage to the unit.
Maintenance:
Please try to burn a hot fire within 24-48 hours of having your fire pit insert installed. The initial burn
will help the paint cure. The color of the inside walls may show imperfections where there is direct
contact with the flames. This is considered normal wear and tear.
When the fire pit is not in use, the Burly team strongly recommends that you cover with the snuffer lid.
Covering the fire pit will increase the life of the product by keeping moisture out, which will prevent
corrosion. Do not cover the fire until the fire is completely out. Also, we suggest that you consider a
custom waterproof cover to protect the entire unit.
Make sure to clean out the fire pit after every 1 or 2 fires. Cleaning out the ash will protect the unit and
ensure that there is proper airflow. Do not leave ash in the bottom of the fire pit for extended periods of
time.
