Introducing your CWD2601
Your CWD2601 makes use of the latest technologies in cordless
telephone design. It includes a wide range of easy to use features
and functions, including a name and number phonebook and a
Caller ID facility with a number Call Log.
Caller ID is a facility available from some telephone network
service providers, allowing the user to identify who is calling
without even having to pick up the phone. Your CWD2601 has the
necessary software to utilise the Caller ID facility. If you wish to
use Caller ID you will need to subscribe to the service from your
network provider.
Please read this user guide carefully before using your CWD2601
for the first time.

Safety information
• Only use the mains power adaptor supplied. Using another
adaptor could damage your CWD2601 and invalidate your
warranty.
• To obtain a replacement power supply, please call the
Helpline on 0870 241 3201 (9.00am-5.00pm, Mon to Fri).
• The radio signals used by this phone system may interfere
with some hearing aids and cause a humming sound to be
heard.
• This product should not be used near emergency intensive
care medical equipment.
• This product should not be used by people fitted with a
pacemaker.
• Do not use your CWD2601 in the open air during
thunderstorms. We recommend that you unplug your
CWD2601 from the mains power and telephone socket
during storms.
• Your CWD2601 base is intended for indoor use only.
• Do not use the handset in places where there are explosive
hazards.
• Do not expose your CWD2601 or batteries to fire or water.
• Dispose of batteries safely. Do not puncture or burn them.
They contain toxic materials that could cause injury.

Positioning your CWD2601
Place your CWD2601 base and charger close enough to the
telephone and mains power sockets so that the cables will reach.
Make sure that you position your CWD2601 at least 1 metre away
from other electrical appliances (including other telephones) to
avoid interference. Avoid bathrooms and other humid areas.
Installing the handset batteries
On each handset Insert the batteries as shown below.
!Caution! Only use the battery type supplied.

Connecting the mains power supply to your
CWD2600 base
Plug the mains power adaptor lead into the socket on the base unit
marked with the following symbol:
Plug the mains power adaptor into a standard 230V a.c. wall socket
and switch on. You will hear a confirmation tone.
Connecting the mains power supply to the
CWD265 charger
Plug the mains power adaptor wired to the charger unit into the
mains power wall socket and switch the power on.
Charging the handsets
Once you have installed the batteries in the handset, each display
will show the phone model number, the individual handset
number, the battery status and signal strength symbols.
!Caution! Only use the mains power adaptor
supplied. Using other power adaptors could
damage your phone and invalidate your warranty
"
Note: Wait until the batteries are fully charged
before using the phones. Before initial operation
you should charge the batteries for at least
14 hours.
You will need to fully charge the handsets before use. Place one
handset in the Base unit and the other in the charger unit.
When the handset sits in the base, the handset battery is being
charged. The battery charging indicator (red) on the base unit
lights up and stays lit while the batteries are being charged.
When the handset is placed in the charger, the handset beeps and
the indicator on the front of the charger illuminates while the
battery is being charged.

The belt clip
The belt clip is supplied fitted to the handset and allows the
handset to be clipped easily onto your belt, waistband or shirt
pocket thereby allowing you to conveniently carry the handset
around with you.
Battery status symbol
When the battery is fully charged, the status symbol displayed on
the handset LCD screen should show as fully charged (see below).
As the battery is used the status symbol will change accordingly:
Connecting a telephone line to the base unit
Connect the telephone line cord into the telephone socket on the
rear of the base unit. This connector is marked:
Plug the other end into a standard telephone line wall socket.
Route the cable through the integral clips on the rear of the base
unit.
As soon as the handset is charged you will be able to make and
receive phone calls, receive Caller ID call list entries, and store
numbers in the phonebook.

Making / ending calls
Lift the handset off the base, press Talk and wait to hear
the dialling tone.
The LCD displays the symbol and the handset LED
lights up. The In Use LED on the base unit also lights up

Pre-dialling
You can enter a telephone number and verify it on the
display before you place the call.
Use the Numerical keys to enter the phone number.
The display shows the digits as you enter them.
If more than 16 digits are entered, the

symbol is
displayed on the screen to indicate the number is longer
than 16- digits and only the last 16-digits are displayed.
Press Talk to dial the number entered.
To end the call press Talk again or replace the handset on
the base unit.
Receiving external calls
When receiving an external call, the handset and the base
unit will ring, provided that the ringers are set to on. The
EXT symbol blinks on the LCD display. The LED on the
handset and the In Use LED on the base unit both blink.
If you have subscribed to a Caller ID service, the

Re-dialling
The last 10-dialled external numbers are stored for re-
dialling (in the re-dial list) and if required any of these can
be transferred to yourPhonebook,see page 19. The number
can consist of up to 18-digits.
The user can select any number on the re-dial list to redial
in Pre-Dialling mode. However, only the most recently
dialled number can be used for redial in the traditional
dialling mode.

Press Redial. The last number dialled is displayed and
dialled out automatically.
To end the call press Talk again or replace the handset on
the base unit.
To redial any of the last 10 numbers called
Press Redial. The last number dialled is displayed.
Press Scroll to scroll through the last 10 dialled numbers.

The TALK symbol appears on the display.
The phone connects to the line and dials the number
displayed on the screen.
The EXT symbol appears on the display.
To end the call press Talk again or replace the handset on
the base unit.

Save a Number in the Re-dial list to the Phonebook
Press OK. The last number dialled is displayed.
Press Scroll to scroll through the last 10 dialled numbers
until the number you wish to save is displayed.

Use the Numeric keys and the CANCEL key to enter the
name. If a name is not entered, the entry is identified by a
set of brackets, ( ).
Press OK to confirm. The redial number is displayed.
Edit the number (if required) by using the Numeric keys

Press OK to confirm the entry and exit to SAVE ENTRY.
Press Cancel to return to the redial list.
Delete a Number in the Re-dial list
Press OK.

Press Menu on a selected number. SAVE ENTRY is
displayed.
Use Scroll to scroll until the display reads DELETE.
Press OK. The display reads DELETE?
Press OK. The selected number is deleted and the display
returns to the redial list.
Repeat the above three steps to delete another dialled
number as required.
Press Cancel to exit the redial list.
Adjusting the ringer volume
The volume of the handset ringing tone can be set to one of
five preset levels or turned off.
Press Menu.
Use Scroll to scroll through the menu until SOUNDS is
displayed.

The LCD displays VOLUME.

Use Volume up/down to select the volume level. The
ringer melody is heard in the handset speaker and a
graphical representation of the volume level (5 bars to 1
bar for max to min volume respectively, and VOL OFF.
Press OK to confirm the selection and exit to VOLUME.
If the ringer volume is set to VOL OFF, the RINGER OFF
symbol appears on the LCD display.
To turn the handset ringer off while the phone is ringing,
or in standby, press and hold Ringer off.
To turn the handset ringer on while the phone is ringing or
in standby press and hold Ringer off.
Adjusting the handset earpiece/speaker
volume
You can adjust the volume level of the earpiece and speaker
in the handset to one of three preset levels by selecting the

bar (max to min respectively) as required during a call.
During a call:
Press Volume up to increase the volume level.
Press Volume down to decrease the volume level.
The current volume level is displayed on the LCD in
graphical form.
Handsfree operation
The handset can be used in two-handsfree modes
• By switching the internal earpiece to a speaker in
the handset.
• When connected to a headset which transfers the
voice to a remote microphone and earpiece.
During a call
To switch to handsfree operation during a call, press the
Speakerphone key.
You can now hold your conversation ‘handsfree’ without
having to hold the handset to your ear.
Press Speakerphone again to turn end ‘handsfree’. You
now need to hold the handset to your ear.
To end the call press Talk, or replace the handset in the
base:
Press Talk.
Press Speakerphone.
When you hear the dial tone, dial the number you require.
The number appears on the LCD screen and you hear it
being dialled.
To end the call press Talk, or replace the handset in the
base.
Or, without lifting the handset off the base:
Press Talk.
Press Speakerphone.
When you hear the dial tone, dial the number you require.
The number appears in the display and you hear it being
dialled.
To end the call, press Talk.
Using the headset
Connect the headset jack to the headset connector on the
side of the handset.

The handset earpiece and microphone are turned off and
the voice signals diverted to the headset.
Mute (Privacy)
During a call you can mute your voice so that you can
speak privately to a third party without the caller being
able to hear you. You will still be able to hear your caller.
During a call, press Mute.
The symbol is displayed on the LCD. Your caller
cannot hear you.
Press Mute again to talk to your caller again.
The symbol disappears from the display.
Find handset
If you misplace your handset press the FIND HANDSET
button on the base unit to relocate it. The handset rings for
30 seconds. The INT symbol and the prompt BS PAGING
blink on and off on the display. Press any key on the
handset to stop the paging tone sounding.

Alert tones
You can choose to turn on or off the following tones
according to your preferences.
Key beep:
This alert sounds a tone each time a key is pressed. For long
presses, there will be two tones: one upon key depression
and the other upon a long press being activated.
Confirmation tone:
This alert sounds a tone when a setting or a choice is
confirmed.
Charging:
This alert sounds two short duration tones when the
handset is returned to the base unit cradle for charging.
Press Menu.
!Caution! If you press and hold the FIND
HANDSET button on the base for more than
4 seconds, the phone enters registration
mode (see Registering a new handset,
page58).

The range symbol on the display flashes and BS SEARCH
is displayed when your handset loses its link with the base.

When your handset re-establishes its link with the base the
range symbol becomes steady.
During a call
When the handset is too far away from the base during a
call, an alert tone is repeatedly sounded in the handset.
Bring the handset closer to the base so that the signal gets
stronger. If you do not bring the handset back in range,
your call is disconnected.

phonebook
Storing an entry in the phonebook
Press Phonebook during pre-dial or standby.
The LCD displays ADD ENTRY.
Press OK.
The LCD displays NAME?
Use the alphanumeric keypad to enter the name
(maximum of 10 characters) of the person whose
telephone number it is that you wish to enter. If no name
is entered, the name will be displayed as ( ) in the
phonebook.
Using the handset keypad to enter characters:
You can enter characters by pressing the key with
the required character on a number of times
according to its position in the string of characters
on the key legend. For example, for 'C', press '2'
three times, for 'S' press '7' four times, for '5', press
'5' once.
If you wish to enter successive characters which
are on the same key, you must wait for the cursor
to move to the next location on the screen before
entering the next character.

Note: You can store 50 phone records in the
handset with up to 10-characters for the name,
and up to 18-digits for number.
