IMPORTANTSERVICESAFETYINFORMATION
Operatingthereceiveroutsideofitscabinetorwithitsbackremovedinvolvesashockhazard.
Workonthesemodelsshouldonlybeperformedbythosewhoarethoroughlyfamiliar with
precautionsnecessarywhenworkingonhighvoltageequipment.
Exercisecarewhenservicingthischassiswithpowerapplied.ManyBplusand highvoltage
RFterminalsareexposedwhich,if carelesslycontacted, cancauseseriousshockorresultindamage
tothechassis.Maintaininterconnectinggroundleadconnectionsbetweenchassis,escutcheon,
picturetubedagandtunerwhenoperating chassis.
Thesereceivershavea polarized”AClinecord.TheACplugisdesignedtofitintostandard
ACoutletsinonedirectiononly.Thewidebladeconnectstothe ground side”andthenarrowblade
connectstothehot side”oftheACline. ThisassuresthattheTVreceiverisproperlygroundedto
thehousewiring.Ifanextensioncordmustbeused,makesureitisofthe polarized”type.
SincethechassisofthisreceiveisconnectedtoonesideoftheACsupplyduringoperation,
service shouldnotbeattemptedbyanyonenotfamiliar withtheprecautionsnecessarywhen
working on thesetypesofequipment.
WhenitisnecessarytomakemeasurementsortestswithACpowerappliedtothereceiver
chassis, anIsolationTransformermustbeusedasasafetyprecautionand topreventpossible
damagetotransistors. TheIsolation TransformershouldbeconnectedbetweentheTVlinecord
plug andtheACpoweroutlet.
CertainHighvoltage(HV) maybecauseX-rayradiation. Receiversshouldnotbeoperatedwith
HV levelsexceedingthespecifiedratingfortheir chassistype.Highervoltagemayalsoincreasethe
possibilityoffailureintheHV supply.
Itisimportanttomaintainspecifiedvaluesofall componentsinthehorizontalandhighvoltage
circuitsand anywhereelseinthereceivethatcouldcauseariseinhighvoltage,oroperatingsupply
voltages.Nochangesshouldbemadetheoriginaldesignofthereceiver.
Componentsshownintheshadedareasontheschematicdiagramand/oridentifiedbyinthe
replacementpartslistshouldbereplacedonlywithexactfactoryrecommendedreplacementparts.
Theuseofunauthorizedsubstitutepartsmancreatsmaycreateshock,fire,X-rayradiation,orother
hazards.
Todeterminethepresenceofhighvoltage,useanaccuratehighimpedanceHV meter
connectedbetweenthesecond anodeleadandheCRTdaggroundingdevice. Whenservicingthe

HighVoltageSystemremovestaticchargesfromitbyconnectinga10KOhmresistorinseriesWan
insulatedwire(suchastestprobe)betweenthepicturetubedagand2nd anodelead(HaveACline
corddisconnectedfromACsupply).
Thepicturetubeuseinthisreceiveremployintegralimplosion protection. Replace withatube
ofthesametypenumber forcontinuedsafety. Donotliftpicturetubebytheneck.Handlethe
picturetubeonlywhenwearingshatterproofgogglesandafter dischargingthehighvoltage
completely, Keepotherswithoutshatter proofgogglesaway.
Beforereturning thereceiver totheuser,performthefollowing safetychecks:
1.Inspectall leaddresstomakecertainthatleadsarenotpinchedor thathardwareisnot
lodgedbetweenthechassisandothermetalpartsinthereceiver.
2.Replaceallprotectivedevicessuchasnon-metalliccontrolknobs, insulatingfish-papers,
cabinetbacks,adjustmentandcompartmentcoversofshields, isolationresistor-capacitornetworks,
mechanicalinsulatorsetc.
3.Tobesurethatnotshockhazardexists, acheckforthepresenceofleakagecurrentshouldbe
madeateachexposedmetalparthaving areturnpathtothechassis(antenna, cabinetmetal,screw
headsknobsand/or shafts, escutcheon,etc.) inthefollowingmanner.
PlugtheAClinecorddirectlyintoa110V/240V(or180V/240V),ACreceptacle. (Donotuse
anIsolation Transformer duringthesechecks.)All checksmustberepeatedwiththeAClinecord
plug connectionreversed.(Ifnecessary, anon-polarizedadapter plugmustbeusedonlyforthe
purposeof completingthesechecks.)
If available, measurethecurrentusinganaccurateleakagecurrenttester. Anyreading of
0.35mAormoreisexcessiveandindicatesapotentialshockhazardwhichmustbecorrectedbefore
returningthereceivertoowner.
If areliableleakagecurrenttesterisnotavailable, thisalternatemethodofmeasurementshould
beused.Usingtwoclipleads, connecta1500Ohm,10wattresistor paralleledbya0.15MF
capacitorinserieswithaknownearthground,suchasawater pipeor conduit andthemetalpartto
bechecked. UseaVTVMor VOMwith1000OhmsperVolt, orhigher, sensitivitytomeasurethis
ACvoltagedropacrosstheresistor,. Anyreading of0.35voltRMSofmoreisexcessiveand
indicatespotentialshockhazardwhichmustbecorrectedbeforereturning hereceivertotheowner.

ALIGNMENTPROCEDURES
PLEASEREAD BEFOREATTEMPTINGSERVICE
1. UseanIsolation Transformerwhenperforming anyservice onthischassis.
2. Neverdisconnectanyleadswhilereceiverisinoperation.
3. Disconnectallpowerbeforeattempting anrepairs.
4. Donotshortanypositionofthecircuitwhilethepowerison.
5. For safetyreasons,replacinganycomponentsshouldbeaccordingwithidenticalreplacement
parts.
6. Beforetesting, warmuptheTVfor atleast30minutesanddemagnetizetheCRTwithanexternal
degaussingcoil.
7. WhenremovingaPCB or relatedcomponent,afterunfasteningorchangingawire,besuretoput
thewirebackinitsoriginalposition.
8.Inferiorsilicon greasecandamageIC’sandtransistors.Whenreplacing IC’sandtransistors,use
onlyspecifiedsilicongrease,.Removealloldsilicon whenapplying newsilicon.
9. Beforeremoving theanodecap,dischargedrasticallybecauseit containshighvoltage.
