SPEEDLITE
INSTRUCTION MANUAL
MODE D'EMPLOI
MANUAL DE INSTRUCCIONES
SPEEDLITE
Thank you for purchasing
a
Canon product.
The CanonSpeedlite580EX IIis an EOS-dedicated,high-outputflash
unitautomaticallycompatiblewith E-TLII, E-TTL, and TTL autoflash.
Itcan serve as an on-cameraflash as well as a masterunit or a slave
unit in a wireless, multiple-Speedlitesystem. It hasthe same dust- and
water-resistanceas EOS-1
D
series cameras.
Read this instruction manualwhile also referringto your
camera's instructionmanual.
1
Beforeusing the Speedlite, readthis instructionmanualand your camera's
instructionmanual to familiarizeyourself withthe Speedliteoperations.
I
The basicoperation is as easy as with normal
AE
shooting.
When the 580EX
II
is attached to an EOScamera,
almost
all
automatic
exposure controlfor flash photographyis handled
by
the camera.
Itis almost the same as using the camera's built-inflash if it hasone. You can
think of the 580EX
II
as a built-in, high-output flash, but attached externally.
It becomesautomaticallycompatiblewith the camera'sflash
meteringmode(E-TTL II,
E-lTL,
and TTL).
Inaccordancewith the camera's flash control system, the Speedlite controls
the flash automatically in the respectiveflash meteringmode:
1.
E-TTL IIautoflash(evaluativeflash meteringwith preflashreadingllens
distance information)
f
2.
E-TTLautoflash (evaluativeflash meteringwith preflash reading)
1
3.
TTL autoflash (off-the-filmmeteringfor real-timeflash metering)
Regardingthe camera'savailableflash metering modes, referto the
"ExternalSpeedlite" specificationin the "Specifications"of your
camera's instructionmanual.
The camerainstructionmanual'schapteron flash photographywill refer
to camerashavingflash meteringmodes
1
or
2
as a Type-A camera
(compatible with E-TTLIIor E-TTL). And cameras havingflash
meteringmode
3
(compatiblewith only TTL)
are calledType-B
cameras.
*
This instructionmanual assumes that you are using the Speedlite
with aTypeA camera.
For
Type-B
cameras,
see page
55.
