Setting Up Your Telescope:
•Carefullyremovethecomponentsfromthebox.
Attaching Tripod Legs To Mount:
•Twisteachtripodlegintocorrespondingholesinmount.
Donotovertighten.
•Rotaterubberfeetsothattheatportionisushtothetable.
Attaching Telescope To Mount:
•Removealtitudelockknob.
•Aligntopholeinmountwithscrewholeinmountingbracket.Make
sure eyepiece is pointing upward.
•Insertaltitudelockknobthroughtopholeinmountandscrewinto
holeinmountingbracketuntilsecure.Donotovertighten.

Attaching Eyepieces:
•Loosenthumbscrewinfocuser.
•Selectaneyepieceandinsertintofocuser.
•Tightenthumbscrewtosecureeyepieceinplace.Donotovertighten
as it may damage eyepiece.
•Makesuretoloosenthumbscrewbeforeremovingeyepiecesfrom
focuser.
Onceyouhaveproperlyassembledyourtelescopeyouarereadyto
startusingit.Pleaserefertothevisualkeydiagramwhilereading
theseinstructions.
First,placeyourtelescopeonastablesurface.Makesureallrubber
feetontripodarerotatedsotheatsectionisushtothesurface.
•Removetherubberdustcoverfromtheprimarymirrorandsetaside.
•Insertthedesiredeyepiece.Itisbesttousethelowestpowereye-
piece(theKellner25mmeyepiece)atrst.Thisallowsforawidereld
ofviewmakingiteasiertolocateobjects.Oncetheviewingobjectis
visible,focusedandcenteredintheeldofviewyoucanswitchthe
eyepiecetothehighermagnication.
•Tolocateanobjectusingthetelescope,rstloosenthealtitudelock
knoballowingthetelescopetorotatefreelyalongbothaxes.

USING THE TELESCOPE

•Aimthetubelessopticalassemblyatyourdesiredtargetbyrotating
theazimuthpositionleftorright.Lookthroughtheeyepieceatthe
desiredtarget,andmakealtitudeadjustmentsbymovingthetube-
lessopticalassemblyverticallybyhand.Whenthealtitudedirection
isaligned,youmayretightenthealtitudelockknob.
•Oncetheobjectiscenteredintheeldofview,turnthefocuseruntil
theimageisclearandsharp.
•Forbestresults,positionyoureyeascloseaspossibletotheeyepiece
lens.Thisisespeciallyimportantwhenusingthehigherpower10mm
eyepiece.
•Replacedustcoveronprimarymirrorwhennotinuse.
Therearemanyconditionsthatmayaectyourabilitytofocusor
observecelestialobjectsclearly.
•Brightlylitareas(lightpollution)willmakeitdiculttoseefaint
objectsinthesky.Itwillalsomakeitdicultforyoureyestoadjust
tothedark.Youshouldtryandndadarkareaandallowyoureyes
toadjusttothedarkbeforemakingobservations.Usingaredltered
ashlighttoviewchartsandyourtelescopecomponentsisrecom-
mendedtopreserveyournightsight.Thebestviewingconditions
arewhentheskyisinkyblack.
•Hazyskies,pollution,cloudsandmoisturecanallaecttheclarityof
yourviewingimage.
•Duetothetubelessconstructionofthistelescope,theprimaryand
secondarymirrorsareexposedtopossibledust,debrisandnger-
prints.Becarefultoavoidtouchingthesemirrorsandexposingthem
toexcessivedebris.RefertotheCareandMaintenancesectionof
thismanualforinstructionsonhowtocleanyourtelescope.Always
replacethedustcoveroverprimarymirrorwhennotinuse.
•Avoidtouchingtheeyepieceoropticalassemblywhilelooking
throughthetelescope.Thevibrationscausedbythiscontactwill
causetheobjectyouarelookingattomove.Youshouldalsomake
surethatthesurfaceyouplaceyourtelescopeondoesnotvibrateor
moveasthiswillalsocauseyourviewingobjecttomove.
•Youshouldavoidsettingupyourtelescopeinsidearoomlooking
throughanopenwindow.Thedierenceinairtemperaturesmay
result in a blurry image.

•Viewingthroughaclosedwindowmightalsoresultinadistorted
imageduetothevaryingdensitiesofwindowglass.
•Avoidviewingobjectsthatarelowonthehorizon.Objectsthatare
higherupintheskywillappearmuchsharper.stothenewtempera-
turebeforeusingit.
•Suddenchangesintemperaturemaycausecondensationtoappear
ontheopticalcomponentsofthetelescope.Itisbesttosetupyour
telescopeaheadoftimeandthenwaitwhilethetelescopeadjuststo
thenewtemperaturebeforeusingit.

Themagnicationofatelescopedependsonboththefocallength
ofyourtelescopeaswellastheeyepieceyouuse.Thereisasimple
formulayoucanusetodeterminethemagnicationyouareusingat
anygiventime.Simplydividethefocallengthofthetelescopebythe
focallengthoftheeyepiece.Therearetwopossiblemagnication
settingsforyourSK-100telescope:
Power=360mm/25mm=14.4x
Power=360mm/10mm=36x

•Theprimarymirrorandsecondarymirrormustremainprecisely
alignedinorderforthistelescopetoworkproperly.Avoiddropping
orjarringthetelescope,ormovingthemirrorsbyhand.
•Alwaysreplacedustcoversandlenscapsandstoreinboxwhennot
inuse.Thiswillminimizetheamountofdustanddebristhatgets
into your telescope.
•Cleaningshouldbeperformedonlyifabsolutelynecessary.Be
carefultoavoidtouchingtheinternalmirrorsandexposingthemto
excessivedebris.Intheeventthatthesemirrorsbecomedirty,rst
usecompressedairtoremovedustanddebris.Ifanydebrisorn-
gerprintsremain,useasoftlensclothorcottonballswithverylight
pressureandwarmwatertoremovethem.Amixtureofwaterand
dishsoapmaybeusedtoremoveanystubborndebris.Becarefulnot
toscrubthesurfaceofthemirrororuseanyabrasivematerial,harsh
chemicalsorsolventasthismaydamagethesurfaceofthemirror.
•Ifdewcollectsontheopticsofyourtelescopeormoisturecondenses
ontheoptics,removeallaccessoriesandplacethetelescopeina
dry,dustfreeenvironmentandpointthetelescopedownward.This
shouldhelpeliminatethemoisture.
•Donotattempttotakeapartyourtelescopetocleanit.
