UndertheCleanAirActlocalauthoritiesmaydeclarethewholeorpartofthedistrictofthe
authoritytobeasmokecontrolarea.Itisanoffencetoemitsmokefromachimneyofa
building,fromafurnaceorfromanyfixedboileriflocatedinadesignatedsmokecontrol
area.Itisalsoanoffencetoacquirean"unauthorisedfuel"forusewithinasmokecontrol
areaunlessitisusedinan"exempt"appliance("exempted"fromthecontrolswhich
generallyapplyinthesmokecontrolarea).
TheSecretaryofStateforEnvironment,FoodandRuralAffairshaspowersundertheActto
authorisesmokelessfuelsorexemptappliancesforuseinsmokecontrolareasinEngland.In
ScotlandandWalesthispowerrestswithMinistersinthedevolvedadministrationsforthose
countries.Separatelegislation,theCleanAir(NorthernIreland)Order1981,appliesin
NorthernIreland.Thereforeitisarequirementthatfuelsburntorobtainedforuseinsmoke
controlareashavebeen"authorised"inRegulationsandthatappliancesusedtoburnsolid
fuelinthoseareas(otherthan"authorised"fuels)havebeenexemptedbyanOrdermade
andsignedbytheSecretaryofStateorMinisterinthedevolvedadministrations.

2.0Installation
2.1Unpackingthestove
Afterremovingtheouterpackaging,removethecombustionchamberfromthe
palletandplaceitgentlyonitsback.Thecardboardpackagingcanbeplaced
underneathtopreventmarring.Removethelegpackfromthestoveandbolteach
legsecurelytotheundersideofthebaseonthecombustionchamber,usingthe
boltsprovided(foundinsidethestove).Werecommendthattwopeopleperform
theassemblyandinstallationprocedure.The Door Handle can be found inside the
top of the stove through the top flue opening.
2.2Installingthisstove
ThestoveandchimneyinstallationsMUSTcomplytoallcurrentNationalandLocal
BuildingRegulations;yourapproveddealeroryourlocalbuildingcontrolofficercan
adviseregardingthis.Ultimately,itisyouandyourinstallerwhoisresponsiblethat
theinstallationcomplies
2.3Stoveplacement/clearancerequirements
Woodenfloorprotection
Theproductcanbeplaceddirectlyonawoodenfloorthatiscoveredbyametalplateor
othersuitable,non‐inflammablematerial.Therecommendedminimumthicknessis
5mm.
Anyflooringmadeofcombustiblematerial,suchaslinoleum,carpets,etc.mustbe
removedfromunderthefloorplate.
Requirementsforprotectingcombustibleflooringinfrontoffireplace:Thefloorplate
mustbeinaccordancewithnationallawsandregulations.See(figure2).Contactyour
localbuildingauthorityregardingrestrictionsandinstallationrequirements.
Wallsprotection

Thefireplaceisauthorisedforusewiththedistancestothewallofflammablematerial
asshownin(figure2)
Aheatshieldforthebackcanbeorderedandmounteddependingonthepositionofthe

FirewallrequirementThefirewallmustbeatleast100mmthickandbemadeofbrick,
concrete‐stoneorlightconcrete.Othermaterialsandstructureswithsatisfactory
documentationmayalsobeused.
Ceilingprotection
Theremustbeaminimumdistanceof1200mmtoacombustibleceilingabovethe
fireplace.
Clearancestofurnitureandsoftfurnishings
Werecommendthatthestovebeinstalled800mmfromfurniture.Serious
considerationshouldalsobegiventopositioningofanyfurniturethatcouldbe
adverselyaffectedbyheat.Theclearancestocombustiblematerialsinfrontofthestove
shouldbeaminimumof800mm.
Whenlit,awood‐burningstovegetshotandthereforeadequateprotectionmustbe
provided,particularlyinsituationswherethereisasafetyrisktochildrenortheinfirm.A
suitablesafetyguardaroundthestoveshouldbeconsidered.

2.4Thechimney
Thisproductmustneverconnecttoanysharedchimney.
Anefficientmodernstoveplacesheavydemandsonthechimney,andyoushouldhave
thechimneyregularlysweptandinspectedbyyourapprovedchimneysweep.
Thecross‐sectionalareaofthechimney(atitsnarrowestpoint)mustcomplywith
NationalandLocalBuildingRegulations.Generally,theareaneededforawood‐burning
stoveinstallationshouldmeasureatleast113cm
2
(125mmdiameter).
Anover‐sizedchimneyisgenerallyhardtokeepwarmandresultsinpoordraft.Incases
wherethereisanoversizedmasonrychimney,itisrecommendedthatthechimneybe
linedusinganappropriatechimneyliningsystemwiththecorrectinternaldiameter.
Withrespecttothechimneytermination,allchimneysshouldterminateinaccordance
withnationalandLocalBuildingRegulations.
NotethatNationalandLocalRegulationsalsoapplywithregardtotheplacementof
chimneysandfluesinconnectionwiththatchedroofs.
Thechimneyorfluesystemmustbeequippedwithaccessdoorsforinspectionand
cleaning.Thesizeofthecleaningdoorinthechimneymustatleastequaltothatofthe
cross‐sectionalareaofthechimney.Intheeventthatachimneyfireoccursresulting
fromfaultyoperationorprolongeduseofdampwoodfuel,closetheairvents
completelyandcontactyourlocalfiredepartmentimmediately.
2.5Pipeconnections
Thestovemustbeinstalledwitha125mmdiameterfluepipe.Thismustbeanapproved
thickness.Theflueoutletforthisproductisinsidetheburnchamberduring
transportation.Youcanchoosebetweenatoporrearoutletforthefluepipe.
Fluepipesareplaceddirectlyontotheproductflueoutlet.Therearethreelipsonthe
fluecollarTheseareusedtofastenthefluecollarintothebodyofthestovebytwisting
clockwiseseeFigure3.Theunusedoutletmustbesealedwiththeplateandscrewed
firmlyintoplace..

2.6Connectingtoamasonrychimney
Awallsleeveshouldbebrickedsecurelyintothewallofthechimneyattheappropriate
heightandthestovepipeinsertedcentrally.Thepipemustnotextendintotheactual
chimneyopening,butrathermustreachonlytotheinsideofthechimneyaperture.The
gapbetweenthestovepipeandsleevemustbesealedusingglassfibrepackingrope.
2.7Connectingtoasteelchimney
Ifyourinstallationinvolvestakingthechimneystraightupandthroughtheceiling,you
mustcomplywithNational,LocalBuildingRegulationsorfluemanufacturer’s
instructionsconcerningclearancestocombustiblematerialssuchaswalls,floorjoists
andceilings.Thejointbetweenthestovefluecollarandthestovepipemustalsobe
sealedusingtheglassfibreropeprovided.
Itisimportantthattheinsulatedfluesystemisproperlysupportedbothatceilinglevel
andatrooflevel.THESTOVEMUSTNOTBEARTHEWEIGHTOFTHECHIMNEYSYSTEM
(Seechimneymanufacturer’sinstructions).Excessiveweightonthestovewillinhibit
expansionandcouldleadtodamageofthestovetop.
Intheeventthatachimneyfireoccursresultingfromfaultyoperationorprolonged
useofdampwoodfuel,closetheairventscompletelyandcontactyourlocalfire
departmentimmediately.

CAUTION:
Cleaningprocedure:
Discussthiswithchimneysweeporqualifiedinstallerpriortoorduringthestove
installation.
Chimneydraft:
Ifthechimneydraftisnaturallypooritisbettertoinstallthefluefromthetopofthe
stovesoastominimiseanyinternalresistanceofthefluegases.Avoidhavinganymore
than2bendsinthefluesystemandlimitthelengthoftheoffsetbetweenbends.
Freshairsupply:
Awood‐burningstoverequiresairforcombustionandthereforeyoumayneedtoinstall
additionalventilationtotheroom(ATTENTION:don’tuseanyextractorfansorany
similardeviceinthesameroomwiththisproduct.Itcouldmakethedrafttooweak),
especiallysoinwellinsulatedhouses.
Iftheairsupplyisinadequatethechimneydraftmaybetooweak,withthepossible
resultthatthestovewillnotburnproperly;smokespillagemayalsooccurduringthe
refuelingprocess.Onapositivenote,aproperlyinstalledwood‐burnerwillgiveeventhe
mostefficienthousesapleasantandnaturalventilation.
2.8Draftconditions
Ifsmokespillageoccurswhenthefiredoorisopened,itisprobablyduetopoorchimney
draft.Thistypeofstoverequiresatleast12paofchimneydrafttoachievesatisfactory
combustionandsmokespillageprevention.However,incaseswherethestovedooris
openedtoovigorouslyyoucouldexpectthatslightsmokespillagemayoccur.Ifyouhave
anydoubts,youmaywanttohaveyourinstallermeasurethedraftinthechimney.
Draftconditions
Thechimney’sdraftistheresultingeffectwithinthefluecausedbythedifferencein
temperaturewithintheflueandthecoolertemperatureoutside.Otherfactorsthatcan
influencethelevelofdraftincludethelengthoftheflue,insulationofthechimney,
adverseweatherconditionsortallbuildingsortreesnearbytheflueterminal.
Poordraftoccurswhen:
Theatmospherictemperaturedifferenceistoolow,e.g.apoorlyinsulated
chimney.Ifthechimneyisexcessivelycool,itmayhelpto‘prime’thefluebefore
thefireislit.Justplaceascrewed‐upsheetofnewspaperinthefluewaysofthe
stoveandignite.

Theoutsidetemperatureistoohigh,e.g.duringthesummermonths.
Thereisnoairmovement(wind)outside.
Thechimneyisnottallenough,withtheresultthattheterminalsitsintheleeof
theroofsurfaceorinthevicinityoftalltreesorneighbouringbuildings.These
conditionsarealsoassociatedwithdowndraftwherethefluegasesarepushed
backdownthechimney.
Fluedraftisdilutedbyresidualairenteringthechimney,e.g.duetoinadequate
fluepipejointsorleaksatthecleaningdoororfluecollar.
Unsealed,unusedfireplacesareconnectedtothechimney.
Theflueisblocked,e.g.bysoot,duetoinadequatecleaning,loosedebrisoreven
abirdsnest.
Agooddraftisachievedwhen:
Thetemperaturedifferencebetweenthechimneyandoutsideishigh.Thisalso
appliesduringfiring,whentheneedisgreatest.
Theweatherisclearandthereisagoodwind.
Thechimneyisoftheproperheight,i.e.minimum4metersoverthestoveand
theterminationadequatelyclearoftheroofline.

3.1Choiceoffuel
Recommendedfuel:
Wood‐Usehardwoodlogs.
Althoughyoucanfirethisproductwithalmostallkindsofwood,youshouldnotfire
withwetwood,orunseasonedwood.Woodoughttobestoredunderaroofforatleast
1year,andpreferably2years,withfreeaccesstowind.Woodshouldbechoppedas
soonaspossibleafterfellingifitistodryquickly.Thewoodcanbeusedoncethe
moisturecontentislessthan20%.DuringtheENtest,allstovesaretestedwithwood
withamoisturecontentof(16±4)%.
‐Hardwoodhasahighercalorificvalue.(oak,ash,maple,birch,elm,beech,etc.).‐Pieces
ofwoodwithadiametergreaterthan10cmshouldalwaysbechopped.Thepiecesof
woodshouldbeshortenoughtobeabletolieflatoverthelayerofembers,withairat
bothends.Themaximumlengthoffuelinthestovemustbenomorethan30cm.
Recommendedfuel:
CoalSmokelessfuels,includingCoaliteNuts,AnthraciteBriquettes(Phurnacite,Ancit)
andExtracite.
Notrecommendedasfuel:
“greenwood”.Greenordampwoodreducesstoveefficiencyandsoilstheglass,the
internalwallsandtheflue(soot,tar,etc.).
“usedtimbers”.Burningtreatedwood(railwaysleepers,telegraphpoles,offcutsof
plywoodorchipboard,pallets,etc.)quicklyclogstheflueways(soot,tar,etc.),pollutes
theenvironment(pollutionandsmell,etc.)andcausethefiretoburntooquicklyand
overheat.“Greenwood”and“recoveredwood”caneventuallycauseachimneyfire.
Prohibitedfuel:
Plasticbagsandanyformofbituminouscoalorpetroleumbasedcoke.Thismayharm
theproductandpollutetheatmosphere.

3.2Use
Odourswhenusingthefireplaceforthefirsttime
Paintedproducts:thefireplacemayemitanirritatinggaswhenusedforthefirsttime,
anditmaysmellalittle.Thegasisnottoxic,buttheroomshouldbethoroughly
ventilated.Letthefireburnwithahighdraughtuntilalltracesofthegashave
disappearedandnosmokeorsmellscanbedetected.
AirControl:(Figure4)
Theamountofheatemittedbythestoveisregulatedusingthreeaircontrols.The
primaryairsupply,whereairpassesupthroughtheriddlinggrate,iscontrolledusingthe
aircontrolsituatedinthelowerdoor,andthesecondaryair(airwashsystem),whichis
suppliedtothecombustionovertheglass,iscontrolledusingtheupperaircontrol.A
thirdairinlet(normallynamedsecondaryair)providesaconstant,pre‐heatedairsupply
tothecombustionjustabovethefire,iscontrolledusingtheaircontrolbelowashlip.
Thisairsupplynormallydoesnotneedtoberegulated.It’snecessarytokeepthisair
supplyalwaysopen.
3.2.1Usewithwood
Lighting(Figure4)
Slidethetopaircontroltoopen.Openthelowercontrol.
Layfirelightersorrolledupnewspapersonthegratewithareasonablequantity,
ifnecessary,ofdrykindlingwood.Place2or3smalllogsontop.
Lightthenewspaperorfirelightersusingalongtaperandclosethedoor.
Whenthefireisburningfiercely,addfurtherlogsofadiameterupto10cms.
Whenthestovebodyisveryhot,closethelowerdoorcontrol.
Theburningratecannowbereducedbymovingthetopaircontroltosmallerair
inlet.
Re‐fuelling(Figure4)
•Openthelowercontrol.
•Opentheglassdoorandaddlogs.(Toloadfuel,thedoorshouldbeopened
slowlyavoidingasuddenrushofintakeairsothatthesmokedoesnotescape
intotheroom.
•Leavethelowercontrolopenforafewminutestoallowtheinitialvolatilesin
thewoodtoburn.
•Closethelowerdoorcontrol.

Refuellingontoalowfirebed
Ifthereisinsufficientburningmaterialinthefirebedtolightanewfuelcharge,
excessivesmokeemissioncanoccur.Refuellingmustbecarriedoutontoasufficient
quantityofglowingembersandashthatthenewfuelchargewilligniteinareasonable
period.Iftherearetoofewembersinthefirebed,addsuitablekindlingtoprevent
excessivesmoke.
Fueloverloading
Themaximumamountoffuelspecifiedinthismanualshouldnotbeexceeded,
overloadingcancauseexcesssmoke.Operationwithdoorleftopen.
Operationwiththedooropencancauseexcesssmoke.
Theappliancemustnotbeoperatedwiththeappliancedoorleftopenexceptas
directedintheinstructions.
AirControlsleftfullyopen
Operationwiththeaircontrolsopencancauseexcesssmokeandresultininefficient
combustion.Theappliancemustnotbeoperatedwithaircontrolsordampersdoorleft
openexceptasdirectedintheinstructions.
VeryImportant:Woodisamaterialthatcontainsagreatdealofgas(approximately75
%).Thegasesarereleasedwhenthewoodislitandheatedup.Forthisreason,itis
importantthatthegasesareignitedquicklyafterstoking.Ifthewoodjustlies
smouldering,especiallyafterre‐stoking,alotofsmokeiscreated,which,intheworst
case,maycauseanexplosiveignitionofthegasses,resultingindamagetothestove.
Inordertoignitethegasesthatarereleasedfromthewood,andtokeepclear,lasting
flamesduringthecombustionprocess,itisimportanttoletintherequiredquantityof
oxygen(airsupply)atalltimes.Thesettingoftheairsupply,themethodofignitionand
thelightingintervalsdependonthedraughtinthechimney,thewindandweather,the
amountofheatrequired,thefuel,etc.Thismeansthatitmaytakesometimebefore
yougettoknowthecorrectfunctioningofthestoveunderanygivencircumstances
3.2.2Usewithsolidfuel
Lighting(Figure4)
Slidethetopaircontroltoopen.Openthelowercontrol.
Layfirelightersorrolledupnewspapersonthegratewithareasonablequantity,
ifnecessary,ofdrykindlingwood.Placeasmallquantityofsolidfuelontop.
Lightthenewspaperorfirelightersusingalongtaperandclosethedoor.
Whenthefireisburningfiercely,addfurtherfuel.
Whenthestovebodyishot,closethetopaircontrol.

Re‐fuelling(Figure4)
Openthelowercontrol.
Opentheglassdoorandaddfuel.(Toloadfuel,thedoorshouldbeopened
slowly,avoidingasuddenrushofintakeair,sothatsmokedoesnotescapeinto
theroom.).
Leavethelowerdoorcontrolopenforafewminutestoallowtheinitialvolatiles
inthefueltoburn.
Adjustthelowerdoorcontroltothedesiredposition.
Refuellingontoalowfirebed
Ifthereisinsufficientburningmaterialinthefirebedtolightanewfuelcharge,
excessivesmokeemissioncanoccur.Refuellingmustbecarriedoutontoasufficient
quantityofglowingembersandashthatthenewfuelchargewilligniteinareasonable
period.Iftherearetoofewembersinthefirebed,addsuitablekindlingtoprevent
excessivesmoke.
Fueloverloading
Themaximumamountoffuelspecifiedinthismanualshouldnotbeexceeded,
overloadingcancauseexcesssmoke.Operationwithdoorleftopen.
Operationwiththedooropencancauseexcesssmoke.
Theappliancemustnotbeoperatedwiththeappliancedoorleftopenexceptas
directedintheinstructions.
AirControlsleftfullyopen
Operationwiththeaircontrolsopencancauseexcesssmokeandresultininefficient
combustion.Theappliancemustnotbeoperatedwithaircontrolsordampersdoorleft
openexceptasdirectedintheinstructions.
VeryImportant:Thestovedoorshouldneverbeopenedwhenthestoveisbeing
firedvigorously.
Wewouldstronglyrecommendthatyoudonotleaveyourstovealitatnight.Itharms
theenvironmentandconstitutesverypooruseofthewood,asthegasesinthewood
donotigniteatthelowtemperature,butsettleassoot(unburnedgases)inthe
chimneyandstove.Extremeconditions,suchaspoordraughtinthechimney,large
quantitiesofwoodorwetwoodmay,intheworst‐casescenario,causeanexplosive
ignition.
Whenfiringinthesummerperiod,whenthereisminimalneedforheat,the
combustionwillbepoor.Thestoveprovidestoomuchheat,sothecombustionshould
bereduced.Butalwaysremembertomakesurethattherearelastingflamesuntilthe
woodbecomescharcoal.Ifyouwantaweakerfire,stokeupusinglesswood.

Ifyoufirethestoveusingwetwood,alotofthefuel’sthermalenergywillbespent
forcingthewateroutofthewood,withoutreleasinganyheattothestove.This
incompletecombustionresultsinalayerofsootbeingleftinthestove,pipeand
chimney.
3.2.3Ashremoval
Itisessentialtokeepthegratefreefromaheavybuildupofashes.Thisproductis
equippedwithagrateriddlingdevicewhichisusedto“shake”ashesoffthegrateinto
theashpan.Wheneverthestoveisburninglifelesslyandthelowercontrolisopen,use
theriddlinglevertoclearthegrateofsurplusashes.Ifburningsolidfuel,alwaysempty
theashpanatleastonceadayorwheneveritisfullofashes.Neverallowtheashpanto
overfillallowingashtobeincontactwiththeundersideofthegrate.Ifthisconditionis
allowed,thegratewillwearoutpre‐maturely.

3.3Maintenance
3.31Cleaningglass
Thisproductisequippedwithanairwashfortheglass.Airissuckedinthroughtheair
ventabovethefireplaceanddownalongtheinsideoftheglass.However,somesootwill
alwayssticktotheglass,butthequantitywilldependonthelocaldraughtconditions
andadjustmentoftheairwashvent.Mostofthesootlayerwillnormallybeburnedoff
whentheairwashventisopenedallthewayandafireisburningbrisklyinthefireplace.
Goodadvice!Fornormalcleaning,moistenapapertowelwithwarmwaterandadd
someashfromtheburnchamber.Rubitovertheglassandthencleantheglasswith
cleanwater.Drywell.Ifitisnecessarytocleantheglassmorethoroughlywe
recommendusingaglasscleaner(followtheinstructionsonthebottle).
3.3.2Externalsurfacecleaning
Thecastsurfaceofthestoveispaintedwithheat‐resistantpaint.Itisbestmaintainedby
