mandatory.

instrument

enable

modulation
capability
of

transmitter

overmodulation.

replaces
any
limiter
or
clipper

now

in
use.

overmodulation.

familiar
problem
in
FM
and
TV
broadcasting
is
caused
by

mandatory

pre-emp asis
curve
(fig.
1-2).

a
long

requirement
of

FCC
for
t e
improvement
of
t e
overall
signal-to-noise
ratio.
At

time

FM
and
TV
broadcasting
standards
were
adopted,

long-term
average
spectral
distribution
of
music
signals

steady
decline

frequency
above

receiver

quadruple
-
action
control.
Low-,
middle-,
and
ig -frequency
portions
of

program

independently
processed
and
overall,
instantaneous

final
limiting

used
to
assure

no
overmodulation
will
occur.
