3.InstructionsforCare&Operation
TheeMotionTuningModuleisquiterugged,butitcanbedamaged.To
preventthis,followthesesuggestions:
•Donotdropit,orexposeittoshock–thiscancausethecaseor
componentstobedamaged.
•Keepitdry,anddonotoverheatit–thisisanelectricalappliance.If
wateroranyotherliquidgetsintoit,thedevicecouldbebadly
damaged.










DonotconnectthehandsettothePCbeforeinstallingthesoftware.

6.1SoftwareInstallation

InserttheCD‐Romintoyourdiskdrive.TheCD‐Romwillautorunshowingthe
followingscreen.


Navigatetoandclickthe‘InstallSoftware’Icontoruntheinstallation
programmewhichwillthenopenthefollowingpromptwhereyouclick‘Next’
tocontinue.

Onthenextpromptyouwillbeaskedtoinstalltheprogramme.Click‘Install’to
continue.Atthispointtheprogrammewillinstallthenecessaryfilesrequired
forthemodule.

Thescreenwillthenpromptyoustatingthesoftwarehasbeeninstalledand
click‘Finish’toexitthesetup.

6.2ConnectingtheeMotionHardwaretoyourPC


PlugtheUSBcableprovidedintotheeMotionUSBportasillustratedearlier.
OncepluggedinplacetheoppositeendoftheUSBcableintoaUSBporton
yourPC.

Thenextpartofyourinstallationdependsuponyourcomputersoperating
system.Pleasefollowtheinstructionsforyourappropriateoperatingsystem.

6.3WindowsXP

NOTE.Screenshotsmayvaryslightlyfromthosedisplayed.

OncetheeMotionhasbeenconnectedtothePC,theoperatingsystemwilltry
tofindtheUSB<‐>SerialdriverfortheeMotiontocommunicatewiththe
software.

Inordertoensuretheoperatingsystemfinds/selectsthecorrectdriver,please
ensureyoufollowthefollowingstepscarefully.

Thefirstscreenwhichshouldappearuponyourscreenshouldbethe‘Found
NewHardwareWizard’.Ifthescreenasks‘canwindowsconnecttowindows
updatetosearchforsoftware?’select‘No,notthistime’.



Thepreviousscreenmaynotshowdependinguponthesettingsofyour
operatingsystem.Itmayskipthepreviousscreenandshowthefollowing
menu:

Fromthisscreenpleaseselect‘Installfromalistorspecificlocation
(Advanced)’andthenclickthe‘Next’buttontocontinue.Iftheautomatic
selectionischosenitwillnotfindthedevicedriverandwillnotworkwhen
tryingtocommunicatewiththeeMotion.



Younowneedtonavigatetothelocationofthedriversowindow’sinstallsthe
correctdriver.

Pleaseensureyouselectthe‘Searchforthebestdriverintheselocations’
radiobuttonandcheckboxthe‘Includethislocationinthesearch:’and
unchecktheboxabove.

Select‘Browse’andfromthescreenwhichpopsupselectthe‘C:drive’icon
andthensingleclickthe‘CelticTuning_eMotion’folderthenclick‘OK’to
continue.

NOTE.C:\representsthedefaultinstallationlocationofyourharddrive.Ifyoudefaulthard
drivelocationletterisdifferentpleaseamendaccordingly.

Onceyourscreenlooksasabove,select‘Next’tocontinueinstallingthedriver.
WhenithasfoundthedriverWindow’swillbringupthefollowingscreen
prompt:



Tocontinueinstallingthedriverselect‘ContinueAnyway’.Oncethedriveris
installedyouwillhaveascreensayingthatthedriverhasbeensuccessfully
installedandtoclick‘Finish’tocontinue.

6.4WindowsVista/Windows7


OncetheeMotionhasbeenconnectedtothePC,theoperatingsystemwilltry
tofindtheUSB<‐>SerialdriverfortheeMotiontocommunicatewiththe
software.

Inordertoensuretheoperatingsystemfinds/selectsthecorrectdriver,please
ensureyoufollowthefollowingstepscarefully.

Thefirstscreenwhichshouldappearuponyourscreenshouldbethe‘Found
NewHardware’screen.Whenthisappearsselect‘Locateandinstalldriver
software(recommended)’.


OnceyouhaveselectedthisWindowswillautomaticallytrytofindthedriver
suitableforthehardwareandwilldisplaythefollowingpopupinthebottom
righthandsideofyourscreen:

AfteraperiodoftimeWindowswillnotfindthedriveranddisplaythe
followingscreen:



Eventhoughyouhaveaninstallationdiscthedriveriscompressedinafilethus
weneedtoselectthefolderwherethedriverhasbeenextractedto.Please
select‘Idon’thavethedisc.Showmemoreoptions.’

Younowneedtonavigatetothelocationofthedriversowindow’sinstallsthe
correctdriver.

InthetextbowtypeC:\CelticTuning_eMotionandtheclick‘Next’.
Alternativelyselect‘Browse’andfromthescreenwhichpopsupselect
‘Computer’thenthe‘C:drive’iconandthensingleclickthe
‘CelticTuning_eMotion’folderthenclick‘OK’tocontinue.

NOTE.C:\representsthedefaultinstallationlocationofyourharddrive.Ifyoudefaulthard
drivelocationletterisdifferentpleaseamendaccordingly.


Onceyourscreenappearsasabove,select‘Next’tocontinueinstallingthe
driver.WhenithasfoundthedriverWindow’swillbringupthefollowing
screenprompt:



Tocontinueinstallingthedriverselect‘Installthisdriversoftwareanyway’.
Oncethedriverisinstalledyouwillhaveascreensayingthatthedriverhas
beensuccessfullyinstalledandtoclick‘Finish’tocontinue.

7.InstallationforyourVehicle
7.1SelectingyouVehicleMake&Model

Nowthatthehandsetisinstalledandworking;doubleclicktheicon
onthedesktoptolaunchtheprogram.
Theprogramwillloadupasbelow.Therearefourbuttonstothelefthandside
oftheprogramme.Inordertostartselect‘Link’tocommunicatewithhandset.


Whenthedeviceisbeingusedforthefirsttimeandhassuccessfully
communicatedwiththehandsetyouwillreceiveavehicleselectionlist.



TheexampleusedaboveisaFiatStilowiththe1.9JTDenginewith115bhp
standard.Evenifyoucarhasalreadybeenmodifiedalwaysworkusingthe
standardbhp/Psofyourvehicle.

Onceyourvehicleishighlighted,select‘OK’toinstallthecommunication
settingstothehandset.Pleasewaitwhileitcarriesthisout,itcantakea
minuteorso.Duringthisprocessyouwillreceiveapopupaskingyoutoselect
yourlanguage,selectthelanguagethatyouwishforthehandsettodisplayand
select‘OK’.

Oncethehandsethasbeenprogrammedyouwillreceivethefollowingscreen
prompt.Select‘OK’anddisconnecttheUSBcablefromthehandset.


7.2ReadingtheOriginalFilefromyourVehicle

PlugintheRS‐232OBDcableintothehandset.LocatethevehiclesOBDport
whichwillresemblethefollowingpicture:



TheOBDsocketvariesinlocationfromcartocarbutingeneralthelocations
areasfollows:
AUDI/VW/SKODA/SEAT

•Underneaththesteeringwheel,abovethepedalassembly.
•Forreadtimeallow20minutes.
•Forprogrammingtimeallow10minutes.

FORD

•Underneaththesteeringwheel,abovethepedalassembly.
•Forreadtimeallow5minutes.
•Forprogrammingtimeallow5minutes.

RENAULT

•Underthefrontashtrayinthecentreconsoleonthevehicle.
•Forreadtimeallow10minutes.
•Forprogrammingtimeallow5minutes.

IfyouarehavingdifficultylocatingyourOBDportpleasecontacteitheryour
resellerorCelticTuningdirect.

OnceyouhavefoundtheOBDportinserttheconnectorintothesocket.Once
pluggedintotheOBD,thehandsetmenuwillbedisplayed.Select‘Readfile
fromECU’andfollowtheonscreenprompts.


Oncethereadingofthefilehasbeencompleteditwillpromptyoutoswitch
offignitionandremovetheOBDcablefromthecar.



TheeMotionhasnowtakenacloneofyourecu’scontentandstoredthe
informationwithinitsmemory.

NOTE.Theinformationtakenisonlyaclone.Yourcarwillstillworkandremainsdriveable.


7.3UploadingtheOriginalFiletobeModified

NOTE.Youwillneedaninternetconnectionforthissection.

PlugthehandsetintothePCusingtheUSBportasdescribedearlieronwithin
themanual.
Doubleclicktheicononthedesktoptolaunchtheprogram.
Theprogramwillloadupasprevious.Onceagaininordertostartthesoftware
needstocommunicatewiththehandset.Select‘Link’tocommunicatewith
handset.
OncethePChassuccessfullycommunicatedwiththehandset,all4buttons
becomeactivewithblacktextandthescreenwilldisplayinformationsuchas
below:


ToreadtheoriginalfilefromtheecutothePC,select‘ReadORI’.Thiswill
downloadthesoftwareclonetakenfromthecarearliertothePC.Oncethefile
hasdownloadedyouwillbepromptedtosaveit.



Selectthelocationyouwishtosavethefiletothennamethefileasyourfull
namewiththeextension.cte.(exampleJoeBloggs.cte)

NOTE.Ifyoudonotgivethefilenamea.cteextensionthefilewillnotuploadintoour
systemduetoprotectionagainstvirus’s.

InserttheCDintoyourPCagainandrunthe‘autorun.exe’ifitdoesnot
automaticallystartup.



Selectthe‘UploadFile’iconwhichwillopenupyourdefaultwebbrowserand
navigatetoourwebpage.Alternativelytypehttps://www.emotion‐
tuning.co.uk/filemanager/intoyouraddressbar.



Enteryourusernameandpasswordthatwassenttoyouremailaccountupon
completionofyourpurchase.Ifyoudonothavethesedetailsoryounever
receivedthempleasecontactCelticTuningdirect.

Atthetopofyourscreenitwillshowthevehicledetails.Pleasecheckthe
vehicleshowniscorrect.IftheyareincorrectcontactCelticTuningdirect.

Select‘AddFile’andnavigatetoyoursavedfilewiththe.cteextensiononce
locatedhighlightthefileandselect‘OK’.


Onceuploaded,youwillseeaconfirmationscreenasabove.Click‘Close’to
continue.


modifying.Ifyourscreendoesnotautomaticallyupdatepress‘F5’torefresh
thepageandascreenasaboveshouldappearshowingtheoriginalfile
availablefordownload.

Wewillaimtohavethemodifiedfile(s)backtoyouwithinfourhoursduring
normalofficehours(GMT).





7.4UploadingtheModifiedFiletotheeMotion

Oncethemodifiedfile(s)havebeenuploadedtheywillbecomeavailableto
downloadasbelow.ThefileswillbelistedunderECO,FASTROAD&PERF.The
filesuploadedtoyourprofilewilldependuponthefilesyoupurchased.


Todownloadselectclick‘Download’onthecorrespondingfile(s)youwishto
downloadandsavethemtoyourcomputerinthesamelocationasyour
originalfile.

PlugthehandsetintothePCusingtheUSBportasdescribedearlieronwithin
themanual.
Onceconnecteddoubleclicktheicononthedesktoptolaunchthe
program.
Theprogramwillloadupasprevious.Onceagaininordertostartthesoftware
needstocommunicatewiththehandset.Select‘Link’tocommunicatewith
handset.
Inordertotransferthemodifiedfile(s)toyourhandsetselect‘UploadMOD’.A
fileselectboxwillpopup.

