These Fitting and Operating Instructions will help you fit and
use the OMEGA FLEX Desktop Writer DTW (the “DTW”) as
intended, safely and advantageously.
Any person who programs, operates or disposes of this DTW
must have read and understood the entire contents of these
Operating Instructions.
These Operating Instructions should be kept within reach at all
times as long as the DTW is used.
These Operating Instructions should be handed over to the end
users.
Be sure to use the most recent version of these
Operating Instructions. Updated versions are
available free of charge at www.ces.eu.

These Fitting and Operating Instructions are intended for
trained fitting staff, maintenance staff and operators.
As regards the use of these Operating Instructions, it is
assumed that the necessary technical knowledge on how to use
the product as intended is available.
The necessary product training is provided by your professional
CEStronics partner. If this has not yet taken place, please
contact your professional CEStronics partner to obtain training
on the product.

Unintended condition of your system

If you are not fully familiar with the various
possibilities of your system, it may perform
unexpected functions.
If you program the OMEGA FLEX system, you
must be clearly aware of the consequences of
your programming to prevent undesired
results.
If there are functions of the OMEGA FLEX
system you do not understand, contact your
professional CEStronics partner to obtain
further information.

4.1 Explanation of the safety notes
These Fitting and Operating Instructions include safety notes of
the following types:
NOTICE
These notes warn against possible property
or environmental damage.
4.2 Intended use
The OMEGA FLEX Desktop Writer DTW and its components
serve to reading and writing Transponder media to use only
with the CEStronics Software-Suite.
The OMEGA FLEX Desktop Writer DTW must not be changed
without our written consent.
It is exclusively intended and may only be used for that
purpose.
Any other use is considered to be improper and may result in
property damage or even personal injury.
CEStronics GmbH does not accept any liability for any damage
resulting from improper use.

4.4 Basic safety instructions
Observe all warnings and notes in these Fitting and Operating
Instructions when fitting, programming and using the DTW.
To prevent danger to life and limb, the following safety
instructions must be observed:
4.4.1 Danger of explosion
Live parts of the DTW may cause an explosion. Do not use the
DTW in potentially explosive atmospheres.
4.4.2 Danger of poisoning
Always keep the DTW out of the reach of children. There is a
risk that children swallow small parts such as batteries or
screws.
4.4.3 Danger of suffocation
Never allow children to play with packaging material and/or
plastic bags. There is a risk that children pull them over their
head and suffocate.
4.4.4 Danger of property damage
To prevent property damage, the following safety
instructions should be observed:
Always have repairs performed by properly qualified
personnel. This way, you will avoid incorrect repairs.
Only use accessories and spare parts recommended by
CEStronics. This way, you will avoid device failures and
secure the warranted performance.
Do not drop any parts of the DTW on the floor, on hard
surfaces or on hard objects. Otherwise you may damage
parts of the DTW.
Protect the electronic components of the DTW against water
and other liquids to prevent damage.

The DTW contains highly sensitive electronic parts that may
be damaged or destroyed through static charges. Do not
disassemble the DTW in rooms with built up static charge.
4.4.5 Danger through environmental conditions
To prevent damage and/or danger through environmental
conditions, be sure to observe the following instructions:
Do not use the DTW in corrosive atmospheres (chlorine,
ammonia, lime water).
Only use the DTW in rooms in which the humidity does not
exceed 95%.
Do not use the DTW in rooms with a high level of dust
formation.
Do not use the DTW near sources of heat.
4.4.6 Danger of malfunctions
The reading devices of the DTW must not be covered with
any metallic material.
Otherwise the DTW will not be able to read media.

5Introduction
5.1 Description
CEStronics OMEGA FLEX Desktop Writer DTW
DTW to use only with the CEStronics
Software-Suite
The DTW serve to reading and writing Transponder media to
use only with the CEStronics Software-Suite.
The DTW allows you to upload and program the data of your
locking media and Master media into the software and into
your media –you no longer have to enter the required data
manually.
Place the medium you wish to read or program on the reading
area of the DTW, then go to the "Media" or "Master media"
menu in the Software-Suite. Click on “Read medium” or
“Program medium”, and your media can be used.
The data transmission between the components is encrypted.
Other features of the DTW:
No power supply required, power supply via USB port
Readable transponder media: Mifare Classic Standard 1k/4k,
all transponders according to ISO 14443, DESFire EV1
Writeable transponder media: Mifare Classic 4k
No additional driver installation required (certified drivers).

5.2 Scope of delivery
Before proceeding with fitting and commissioning, please
check the contents of the package and the scope of delivery.
Take the DTW out of the package and remove all packaging
material such as film, filling and packaging board.
Check new devices for transport damage and inform your
dealer promptly if any damage is found.
The scope of delivery is as follows:

To use the DTW, proceed as follows:
Insert the USB plug of the DTW into a free USB port of your
PC.
The driver should be installed automatically. If not, you will
have to install the driver manually (for which you need
administrator rights at your PC):
Start the hardware recognition of your operating system
(Windows 7™ or Windows 8™) to install the driver from the
path below.
To do so, select Control Panel > Devices and Printers >
Add device.
For the hardware installation open the following file path:
C:\Programms\Omega\Driver\Mifare or
FLEX\DesktopReader\
Follow the instructions of your operating system for the
installation.

The installation is now complete and you can start using the
DTW:
Launch the CEStronics Suite software and log in.
Go to the "Media" or "Master media" submenu, depending
on which type of medium you want to read or program.
Enter, edit or delete as applicable.
Place the medium you wish to read or program on the
reading area of the DTW.
Click on Add media or Add Master,as the case may be.
Click on Read medium or program.
The data of your media are transmitted and can be used.
If data cannot be transmitted, repeat the driver installation
routine or ask your system administrator for support.

6.1 Hardware driver support
Your optional hardware may require drivers for its perfect
operation.
These drivers should be installed automatically, yet in some
cases, a manual installation may be necessary.
The required drivers are copied into your OMEGA program
folder on your hard disk. Depending on your operating system,
you will find them under the following paths:
C:\Programme\Omega\Driver\Mifare or FLEX\
C:\Programme(x86)\Omega\Driver\Mifare or FLEX\
These folders include the drivers for the DTW.
To trigger the driver installation, start your standard
hardware recognition of your operating system.
When you are asked to enter the memory location of the
respective driver, enter the folder of the path indicated
above.
The following describes the hardware installation under a
Windows 7™operating system.
To install the supplied drivers for the hardware, proceed as
follows:

control panel, and select
Devices and Printers.

Confirm the installation
by clicking on OK.
Click twice Next.
Confirm to complete the
installation.
The driver is now installed.

NOTICE
Risk of manipulation!
An unauthorized person may gain possession of a
Master medium and manipulate the locking
system.
Always keep all Master media at a safe and
protected place.
Secure the storage place so that your Master
media cannot fall into the hands of
unauthorized persons.
If one of the locking media is lost, please contact your
CEStronics partner.

The outer accessible parts of your DTW such as knobs, knob
sleeves, covers, fittings, etc. can be cleaned with a soft,
slightly moist wipe.
NOTICE
Risk of damage to surfaces of the DTW!
Never use solvent-containing cleaning agents to
avoid damage to your DTW.
9Maintenance
The DTW requires no maintenance you need to perform.
10 Spare parts
The DTW does not require any spare parts to be replaced by
you.

Symptom
Possible cause and remedy
Transponder media
cannot be read or
write
The DTW is disconnected.
Connect the DTW to your computer.
Start the CEStronics software and
log-in.
The driver of the DTW is not
installed.
Check the driver installation and if
necessary install the driver again
(see page 14 ff.).
You have kept the transponder
media too far away from the DTW.
Keep the transponder media closer
to the DTW.
The transponder medium is
unsuitable.
Use a suitable transponder medium,
as described in the chapter
"Technical data" on page 21.
If you cannot eliminate the problem anyway, please contact
your local partner.
