Tools and materials needed to rebuild the drum unit
PH#2 screwdriver
Small flat bit screwdriver
Awl
Tweezers
Toner vacuum cleaner
Lint free cloth
Cotton swabs
Conductive grease
Two paper clips
CET501010 drum unit rebuild kit containing an OPC drum, primary charge roller (PCR) and
cleaning blade
Step
Instructions
1.
Drum Unit rebuild instructions for
Kyocera DK-5230/5231 for models ECOSYS P5021cdn/cdw, P5026cdn/cdw, M5521cdn/cdw,
M5526cdn/cdw) using the CET CET501010 Drum Rebuild Kit
2.
Remove the spring that goes between the flat portion of the drum axle and the grey handle.
3.
Release the drum axle locking tab with an awl (the locking tab is located behind the spring and the grey
handle), then push the end of the drum axle a bit to get it out of the opening in the grey handle
4.
Remove the grey handle
5.
Pull out the drum axle from the opposite end you were working on
6.
Remove the OPC drum, sliding out the tab on the spring hub
7.
Remove the spring hub
8.
Remove the drive hub using a tweezers
9.
Remove the OPC drum drive gear from the old OPC drum
10.
Pry off the PCR from the white PCR saddle using a small flat bit screwdriver
11.
Remove the PCR
12.
Remove the PCR saddles with their springs using a tweezers
13.
Remove the two screws holding the cleaning blade using a PH#2 screwdriver
14.
Remove the cleaning blade using a small flat bit screwdriver to help pry it off.
Lift the cleaning blade on non-gear side first in order not to break the plastic boss – see below.

15.
Clean out the waste toner
Warning: Do not use a conventional toner vacuum!
16.
Refresh the end felts’ pile with a small flat bit screwdriver
17.
Vacuum the felts with a toner vacuum
18.
Wipe the discharge rod and the recovery blade with a clean, dry, lint free cloth

Unpack the new CET drum unit rebuild kit, CET501010, containing:
OPC Drum (sold separately as CET101039)
PCR (sold separately as CET251040)
Cleaning Blade (sold separately as CET281033)

Take out the new CET cleaning blade
21.
Reinstall the cleaning blade aligning the holes with the plastic bosses
22.
Secure the cleaning blade with two screws using a PH#2 screwdriver
23.
Make sure the corners of the cleaning blade fit into the cutouts on the end felts
24.
Clean the PCR saddles with a dry cotton swab
25.
Prepare two paper clips as shown, the smaller hook ends will be used as the PCR saddles’
temporary fixtures
26.
Reinstall the PCR saddles using a tweezers, and then secure each with the paper clips as shown
27.
Apply a small amount of conductive grease into the black PCR saddle
28.
Take out the new CET PCR
29.
Reinstall the PCR
Warning: The longer PCR shaft end must go into the black saddle

Reinstall the white part of the drive hub as shown

Take out the new CET OPC drum, leave the black protective wrap on it

Reinstall the white gear onto the OPC drum hub
33.
Remove the protecting wrap from the OPC drum
34.
Reinstall the spring hub, then reinstall the OPC drum into the drum unit
35.
Slide the spring hub tab into the corresponding slot of the drum unit
36.
Make sure the OPC drum is fully seated
37.
Reinstall the black part of drive hub
38.
Slide the drum axle into the OPC drum.
Note: Leave the old conductive grease here or apply fresh conductive grease

Do not fully insert the drum axle before reinstalling the grey handle
40.
Reinstall the grey handle
41.
Push the drum axle till it is locked with the locking tab
42.
Reinstall the spring using a small flat bit screwdriver to help guide the spring in place
43.
Remove the paper clips to release the PCR
44.
Make sure the OPC drum rotates smoothly. Wipe off any dust from the PCR with a clean, dry, lint
free cloth as it is rotated by the drum.
