iswrittenforthe first‐time boatowneror operator. Evenifyou are an
experienced boater, you will findmuchvaluableinformationregarding
the safe operation and maintenance of your new Chaparral boat. Keep
thismanualonyourboatforreadyreference.
Duetoourpolicyofcontinuousproductimprovement,theillustrations
used in this manual may not be identical to the components, controls,
gauges, etc. on your boat, as they are intended to be representative
reference views. Some controls, indicators, or information may be
optionalandnotincludedonyourboatmodel.
The precautions in this manual cannot and do not cover every boating
situation. If a specific method or procedure is not covered, you must
makesurethatwhatyoudoissafeforyouandothers.Alwaysuse
common sense when boating! Remember, too, that ever safe boating

board the boat at all times. If you transfer ownership of this boat to

NMMAcertificationmeansthattheboatcomplieswithapplicablefederal
regulations set forth by the U.S. Coast Guard. These regulations are
based on American Boat ad Yacht Council (ABYC) standards and
recommendedpractices.
AllChaparralmodelscanbecertifiedtocarrytheCEmark.TheCEmark
certifiesthattheboatmeetsrelevantpartsoftheEuropeanDirectivefor
RecreationalCraft94/25/EC of the EuropeanParliament,includingthe
InternationalOrganizationforStandards(ISO)andRecreationalMarine
AgreementGroup(RMAG)guidelinesineffectatthetimeof
manufacture.
Werecommendthatyouseeyourdealerifyouwishtomodifyfactory‐
installed equipment or add new equipment. Your dealer is qualified to
make such modifications or additions without placing the safetyor
designintegrityofyourboatatriskandwithoutinvalidatingthe

Gelcoat
Theadvancedtechnologypolyesterweuseofferssuperiorweathering
resistancetosurfaceyellowingandchalking.Itwillalsohelpprotectand
maintaintheoriginalglossylusterofyourboat’sfinish.Chaparralusesa
premiumqualitygelcoatwhichoffersimprovedflexibilityoverothergel‐
coats,minimizingthepotentialforcracking.
Resin
It’s an age‐old problem. Water penetrates the gelcoat and blisters the
bottom.Thekeyistheresin.Tocutcosts,mostuseageneralpurpose
resin. Chaparral uses a premium quality resin in the hull skin coat of
everyboatinourlinebecauseofitssuperiorbondingcharacteristicsand
exceptionalflex.
Plywood
The plywood Chaparral uses throughout our boats is pressure treated
withawoodpreservativeandfungiinhibitingchemicalbeforeitiskiln
dried.
LoomWrapWiring
AttentiontoriggingdetailisaChaparralhallmark.Insteadofroutingthe
enginewiringharnesshaphazardlyinthebilgeinblacktape,werelyon
automotivestyleflexguardloomthatnotonlykeepsthingsneatbutalso
protectsagainstabrasion.
ThroughBoltedStainlessSteelCleats
It’soneofthemostoftenusedcomponentsonyourboat,butmost
people think a cleat is a cleat, right? Wrong. Chaparral’s cleats are
stainlesssteelsotheywon’tcorrodeandsotheywon’ttwist.Also,ours
arebigenoughtoacceptafull‐sizedloopedline.
HeavyDutyRubRail
Arubrailissupposedtoprotectyourboat.Chaparralusesaheavy‐duty
PVCrubrailwithstainlesssteelinsertthatabsorbsfarmoreimpact
withoutdenting.
AcousticalFoam
Thenamesaysitall.Acousticalfoamisthebestwaywe’vefound to
absorbenginenoise.
AcrylicTops
Oursareacrylicbecauseit’sasuperiormaterialthatwon’tcrack,peel,or
mildew.Further,ouracrylictopswon’tshrinkorexpand,whichmeans
theylookandfitbetterinallweatherconditions.
StainResistantFabrics
Accidentshappen.Spilleddrinks,wetbathingsuitsandsoggytowelsare
afactoflifeonaboat.Allourcabinfabricsarestainresistant.Buyerscan
choosefromawidevarietyofcolors.Whenitcomestointeriorfabrics,
wehavetheonethat’srightforyou.
SuperiorPlasticsvs.Wood
Chaparral prides itself on building seats that are not only comfortable,
butdurable.Weuseplasticseatsbecausetheyholdtheirshapeanddon’t
retainwater,reducingthepotentialforfoamdeterioration.

Dealerresponsibilitiesincludethefollowing:
1. Discuss with you the terms of all warranties and stress the
importance of registering warranties with the appropriate
manufacturers.
2. Explainhowyoucanobtainwarrantyservice.
3. Complete new boat and pre‐delivery inspection procedures. Sign
theformtocertifythatallitemswerecompleted.
YourChaparraldealercanprovideyouwiththoroughinstructioninthe
operationofyourboat.Pleasefeelfreetoaskforassistance.

Yourresponsibilitiesincludethefollowing:
1. Read this manual as well as all other manuals and information
includedinyourowner’spacket.
2. Scheduleanappointmentwithyourdealertogooverallwarranties.
Keeparecordofthehullnumberforfuturereference.
3. Inspecttheboatatthetimeofdeliverytomakesureallsystemsand
components are operating properly. Chaparral recommends that
yourefertoyourenginewarrantyforinitialinspectionandservice
requirements.
Thenewboatandpre‐deliveryinspectionform(foundtowardstheback
ofthischapter)willhelpyouasyouinspectyournewboat.After
completingyourinspection,signtheformtocertifyyouhaveinspected
theboatwithyourdealer.
4. Scheduleanappointmentwithyourdealertogooverthepre‐
delivery engine service record. Sign this record to indicate your
dealerhasexplainedthisrecordtoyou.
5. Operate all equipment in accordance with the manufacturer’s
instructions.

LAWSANDREGULATIONS
This section of the manual includes general information about
governmentregulations.You,theboater,areresponsibleforcomplying
withtherequirementsoffederal,state,andlocallaws.Ifyou have any
questions,contacttheU.S.CoastGuardorotherappropriateauthority.
BoatRegistration
Federal and state laws require that every boat having propulsion
machinery of any type must be registered in the main state of usage.
Registrationnumbersandvalidationstickersmustbedisplayedonthe
boat according to regulations. The registration certificate must be
carriedonboardwhentheboatisinuse.

DischargeofOil
TheFederalWaterPollutionControlActprohibitsthedischargeofoilor
oilywasteintooruponthenavigablewateroftheUnitedStatesorthe
watersofthecontiguouszoneifsuchdischargecauseafilmorsheen
upon,oradiscolorationof,thesurfaceofthewaterorcausesasludgeor
emulsionbeneaththesurfaceofthewater.Violatorsaresubject to a
penalty.
DisposalofPlasticsandOtherGarbage
Plasticrefusedumpedinthewatercankillfishandmarinewildlifeand
can foul vessel propellers and cooling water intakes. Other forms of
waterborne garbage can litter beaches and cause illness. U.S. Coast
Guardregulationsthereforestrictlyprohibitdumpingplasticrefuse or
othergarbagemixedwithplasticintothewateranywhere.Further,the
regulations restrict the dumping of other forms of garbage within 12
milesfromshoreontheeastcoast,and9milesfromshoreonthewest
coast.
Within3milesofshoreandinU.S.lakes,rivers,bays,andsounds, itis
illegaltodumpplastic,dunnage,lining,andpackingmaterialsthatfloat;
andanygarbageexceptdishwater,graywater,andfreshfishparts.
Between3and12milesitisillegaltodumpplastic,dunnage,lining,and
packingmaterialsthatfloat;andanygarbagenotgroundtolessthanone
squareinch.
Between12and25milesitisillegaltodumpplastic,dunnage, lining,
andpackingmaterialsthatfloat.
Beyond25milesitisillegaltodumpplastic.
TheU.S.CoastGuardhasissuedtheseregulationstoimplementAnnexof
theInternationalConventionforthePreventionofPollutionfromShips,
1973, commonlyknown asAnnex V oftheMARPOL(MarinePollution)
Treaty73/78.TheyapplytoallU.S.vesselswherevertheyoperate
(exceptwatersundertheexclusivejurisdictionofastate),and foreign
vesselsoperatinginU.S.watersouttoandincludingtheExclusive
EconomicZone(200miles).
If your boat is 26 feet or more in length, the regulations require U.S.
recreational boaters attach one or more Coast Guard Trash dumping
Restrictions placards to your boat. The placard warns against the
dischargeofplasticandothergarbagewithU.S.navigablewaters and
specifies discharge restrictions beyond the territorial sea (generally
within3ormorenauticalmilesofshore).

Theplacardmustalsocontainthewarningthatapersonviolatingthese
requirementsisliableforcivilandcriminalpenalties.Theplacardmust
also state that local regulations may further restrict the discharge of
garbage. You may purchase these placards from local marinas, boat
dealers,ormarineequipmentsuppliers.
TheU.S.CoastGuardhasalsoissuedregulationsrequiringboatstohave
sanitationsystemonboardtocontrolpollution.Wastesaretobestored
inaholdingtankorotherdevice,suchasPorta‐Potti,untilthedevicecan
bepumpedoutorotherwisedisposedofatashorefacility.Discharging
thiswasteoverboardisinmostcasesprohibited.Checkwiththe Coast
Guardregardingregulationsinyourarea.
OWNER’SLOGSANDRECORDS
Attheendofthischapterarethree(3)formswhichyouwillfindvery
helpful.
Use the BoatDataRecord to record all important information about
yourboatandthemajorcomponentsinstalled.Printacopyandafter
youhaveenteredallthedata,storeitinasafeplace.Donotkeepthis
formaboardyourboat.
The TravelPlanLog provides a record of your destination, departure
andreturntimes,boatdescription,passengerlist,andotherinformation
aboutthetripyouhaveplanned.Atthebottomoftheformisspacefor
listingemergencytelephonenumbersincaseyourreturnisdelayedpast
theexpectedtime.Italsohasspaceforindicatinginformationaboutthe
person filling this report. Leave the completed form ashore with a
responsibleperson.Werecommendyouprintseveralcopiesofthisform
eachboatingseasontoensureanamplesupply.
The FuelUsageChart is a handy way to record information covering
enginehours,fuelconsumption,milestraveled,aswellasRPM
(revolutions per minute), Average MPH (miles per hour), and GPH
(gallonsperhour).
WARRANTYPOLICYTRANSFER
Your Chaparral boat is backed by a Limited Express Warranty. Itis
importantthatyouareawareofitsterms.Ifaproblemariseswithyour
Chaparral boat as a result of workmanship or materials, contactyour
dealerassoonaspossibletodeterminewhethercorrectingtheproblem
may be covered by the warranty. Please have your hull identification
numberand necessary modelnumberson hand fortheitems that may
needserviceorrepair.Yourhullidentificationnumberisbelowtherub
railonthestarboardaftcornerofyourboat.
The Chaparral Limited Warranty Policy may be transferred to
subsequentowner(s)providingtheOwnershipTransferRecord(OTR)is
completed and returned to the Chaparral Customer Service Office. The
OTRislocatedaftertheChaparralLimitedWarrantyPolicyinSection11.
Subsequent owner(s) will receive the balance of warranty available
subject to a $100.00 deductible per occurrence for claims filedin
accordancewiththeChaparralLimitedWarrantyPolicy.TheOwnership
Transferfeevariesdependingontheboatmodelandsize.Seethe
Chaparral Ownership Transfer Record for details and associated fees.
