Dothisoperationthesamewayeverytimea meas-
urementistobemade:bouncethecar,frontfirst,
thenrear,severaltimesbygraspingthecenterof
thebumpers.Releasethebumpersonthedown
strokeeachtimeafterthesamenumberofbounces.
AllChryslerModelswithTrue-LevelTorsionAire
mustmaintainthespecifiedrearheightof4%inches

CASTERANDCAMBER
Frontsuspensionheightmustbecorrectbefore
measuringcasterandcamber.
AfterSolventNo.1879318hasloosenedanyrust,
carefullyloosentheuppercontrolarmattaching
nutswhileholdingtheboltsfromturning.Once
casterandcamberhasbeenadjusted,a verysmall
turnoftheboltswillaffectthegaugereadings.
Turningoneboltaffectscastermorethancamber.
Bybringingcastertoapproximatespecifications,
thenturningbothboltsanequalamountinthesame
directiontobringcambertothepreferredspecifica-
tion,willusuallybringcastertothepreferredset-
ting.Tightennutsto60-70footpoundstorqueusing
ToolsC-3675andC-3696.However,duetolengthof
ToolsC-3675andC-3696usedwithtorquewrenches
ToolC-524orToolC-3005a recalibrationwillbe
necessaryinordertoobtainpropertorque.Using
ToolC-3675,thetorquereadingonwrenchmust
show45foot-poundstorque,whichisequivalentto
60-70foot-poundstorque;andusingwrenchC-3696,
torquereadingmustbe55foot-poundstorque,which
againisequivalentto60-70foot-poundstorque.Re-
checkgaugereadings.
NOTE;
Turningbothcamsinthesamedirectionan
equalamountwillchangecamberwithlittleorno
changeofcaster.Turningbothcamsanequal
amountinoppositedirectionswillchangethecaster
withlittleornochangeofcamber.
REARSUSPENSION
REARSPRINGS
Therearspringsremainthesamewiththefollow-
ingexception:thespringshavea rubberpadbe-
tweenthespringsandtheaxlehousing.The"U"
boltnuttorqueis70+ or

15foot-pounds.
SHOCKABSORBERS
The1959modelcarsareequippedwithOriflowshock
absorbersofthesametypeasusedonthe1958mod-
els.
Refertothe1958ChryslerandImperialMan-
ual,
D-16350,forinformationontheremovaland
installationoftheOriflowshockabsorbers.
CAUTION
WhencarisequippedwithTrue-LevelTorsionAire,
donotusea framecontacttypehoistwhenremoving
shockabsorbers,astheairspringswillbecomeun-
seatedfromtheupperspringseat.
TRUE-LEVELTORSIONAIRE
TheTrue-LevelTorsionAireSystem(Figs2 and3)
availableasoptionalequipmentonthe1959Chrysler
andImperialcarsconsistsofanenginedrivenbal-
ancedheadcompressor,compressordrivebelt,check
valve,highpressureairlines,highpressurereser-
voirtank,lowpressurevolumetank,heightcontrol
valveassembly,airspringsandvalve(actuating)
rubberlinkage.
OncarsequippedwithTrue-LevelTorsion,Aire
System,conventionalsteelsemi-ellipticleafsprings
andshockabsorbersareused,however,springload
andratehavebeenreducedapproximatelytenper
cent.
