inordertomaintaintheconstantrearheight.Since
thesepressuresarevariable,itisnotnecessaryto
testthem.
Theheightcontrolvalvecontainsa minimumpres-
surevalvetomaintain8-15psiintheairsprings
duringa no-loadoperationasinchangingtiresby
useofa bumperjack.Thispressurepreventsdam-
agetotheairspringasthejackisloweredanda load
conditionrestoredtothesystem.
Theheightcontrolvalvealsocontainsa highpres-
surereliefvalve(150psi)toprotectthesystem
underextremeheavyloadconditions.
SERVICEPROCEDURES
MAINTENANCE
Thehighpressureairtank(locatedundertheright
frontfender)shouldbedrainedatleastonce a
month.Depressthenon-removablecoreinthedrain
valve.(Shoulditeverbenecessarytoremovethe
valve,removethehighpressurelineatthecheck
valveFIRST.)
TESTINGFORLEAKS(LiquidSoapMethod)
Withtheenginerunning,applya dilutedliquidsoap
solutionatthefollowinglocationswhereleakswould
causebubbles:airspringsandseats,heightcon-
trolvalvemounting,airlineconnections,highpres-
sureairtank,drainvalveconnectionandoutlet.
Stoptheengineandremovetheairlineandcheck
valvefromthecompressor.Connecttheairlineand
checkvalve.Applyairpressurethroughthetank
drainvalve.Coatcheckvalvewithsoapsolution.If
noleakisevident,wipeoffsoapsolutionbeforere-
installation.
RefrigeratorMethod(Refrigerant12)
Add150poundsofweighttothecenterareaofthe
luggagecompartmentandraisecarona hoist.Dis-
chargethehighpressuretankbydepressingthe
valvecoreinthevalve.Removetheminimumpres-
surevalvefromtheheightcontrolvalve.Disconnect
therubberlinkagefromthedifferentialhousing
bracketandmovetheactuatorarmmanuallytodis-
chargeallairfromthelowpressurevolumetank.
Withallairremovedfromthesystem,connectthe
rubberlinkageandinstalltheminimumpressure
valve.
InstalladaptorToolC-3693betweenthehigh
pressureairlineandthecompressorcheckvalve.
Connectmanifoldgaugeset,ToolC-3627(usedwith
airconditioning)onadaptor,ToolC-3693,using
thegaugesetsuctionhose.Attachtherefrigerant
tanktothegaugeset.Openthesuctionsideofthe
gaugesetandchargethesystemwith40psiofre-
frigerant12.Shutoffthegaugesetandstartthecar
engine.Operatethecarengineuntilnormaloperat-
ingpressureof200+ or— 20psiisobtained.
Usingleakdetector,ToolC-3659,(usedwithair
conditioning)checktheentireTrue-LevelTorsion
AireSystemforleaksandmakeallnecessaryre-
pairs.
CAUTION
Besurenogasolineisleakingfromthecarsystem
whencheckingtheTrue-LevelTorsionAireSystem
withToolC-3659.
Withthecarenginerunning,purgetherefriger-
antfromthesystembydisconnectingtherubber
linkagefromthedifferentialhousingandmanually
operatingtheheightcontrolvalveactuatorarm.
Withtherefrigerantpurgedfromthesystem,con-
necttherubberlinkagetoitsbracket.Shutoffthe
carengineandagaindischargeallairfromthehigh
pressuretank.RemoveadaptorToolC-3693from
theairlineandcheckvalve.Connecttheairlineto
thecheckvalve.Lowerthehoistandremovethe
weightfromtheluggagecompartment.Operatethe
carengineapproximatelythreeminutesbeforere-
movingthecarfromthehoist.
CHECKING
AND
ADJUSTINGSUSPENSIONHEIGHT
Thevehiclemusthaverecommendedtirepressures,
fulltankoffuel(orequivalentweightaddedtolug-
gagecompartmentoverthetank).(Gasolineweighs
approximately6%poundspergallon.)Thefront
suspensionheightshouldbecorrectandequalon
bothsidesbeforeplacingcaronlevelfloor withno
passengerload.
Therearsuspensionheightmustbesettoa speci-
fied verticaldistancebetween,thetopoftheaxle
housingandhighestpartundertheaxlebumper
straps,
totherearoftherubberbumpersonboth
sidesofthecar(Fig.6).Cleanthebumperstraps
andaxlehousingtubesbeforemeasuring.
Rearsuspensionheightismeasured(bothsides)
twice,oncewithloadandagainwithoutload.Both
pairsoffigures arecomparedaswell asaveraged.
