CARE AND CLEANING
Filter Care
1) Wipe clean only. Do not place in dishwasher.
2) Always use filter caps to prevent contamination.
3) Always dry filter thoroughly prior to storage.
Backwash
1) When filter slows down or clogs, it can be backwashed by simply using clean water
with a 28mm bottle, by screwing onto filter in reverse direction. Only use clean
water while backwashing.
2) Remove Stage II Carbon prior to backwash. Do not use backwash with 2nd stage
Carbon filter (if included).
3) It is recommended to clean the Filter approximately every 10 liters to prevent build
up and to extend filter lifespan.
4) Before or after long-term storage, follow instructions to sterilize filter.
Sterilizing the Filter
Sterilize your Filter before or after long-term storage to ensure fresh tasting water.
1) Mix 2.5 mL (≈¼ tsp) of household bleach free of dyes or perfumes with 1 liter of water.
2) Only sterilize the 1st stage of filter containing Ultrafiltration Membrane. Do not use this
method to sterilize 2nd stage Carbon filter (if included). Only wipe outside surfaces clean.
3) Filter the bleach water through the filter, and allow to remain submerged.
4) Wait 30 minutes.
5) Filter 1 liter of clean water through the filter to clear any remaining bleach solution.
6) After cleaning, open the caps and let the filter air dry out at room temperature.
7) Once dry, to avoid cross-contamination or damage to the internal fibers of filter, use
caps to seal both sides and store in a cool and dry location.
Filter Replacement
1) Ultrafiltration Filter (Stage I) can be used and re-used again and again. Backwash
to extend filter life. Replace filter once back wash is no longer effective to clear filter.
2) Carbon Filter (Stage II) should be replaced each season of use or every 50 L to
insure fresh tasting water. Replace Stage II if unpleasant taste or odors are noted.
3) Replacement Carbon Filters can be purchased separately.

GETTING STARTED
1) Remove product from packaging
2) Attach Ultrafiltration Stage I and Carbon Stage II filters securely.
3) Fill water bottle or canteen with clean water and thread onto inlet side of Ultrafiltration
filter Stage I. NOTE: Flow direction. Squeeze 1L of clean water through filter to
flush any dust or debris from manufacturing process. If using Stage II Carbon filter,
it is not unusual to see dark water from carbon dust, but this should clear.
4) After flushing, filter is now ready to use. Can be used with or without Stage II
Carbon Filter.
5) Can be used directly as a straw by inserting inlet end of Personal Water Filter into
water and placing mouth on opposite end to draw in water.
6) Filter fits the threads on most plastic water bottles. Can be used also by filling water
bottle with water to be filtered and thread water bottle onto inlet side of filter.
Squeeze water bottle to create pressure through filter.
7) Shake out excess water and replace caps after use to prevent any leakage.
Note: It may take as much as a day for all trapped air to work out of a new filter cartridge.
If water dribbles from the end of the spout after the inlet water is turned off, or if water
appears cloudy, the problem is trapped air. It will correct itself, and in the meantime, the
water is safe to drink.
8) This product must not be used by children without the supervision of an adult.
9) IMPORTANT: Do not run hot water through the filter as it may damage filter(s).
10) Keep the cap closed when product is not in use.
