Intended Use
The USB 2.0 fax modem is designed to connect a computer to the Internet via a stan-
dard telephone connection and enable the transmission and receipt of fax messages.
It also supports telephone answering machine functions (TAM) and other telephone
services.
Users are obliged to inform themselves of any applicable, legally binding regulations
and requirements in respect of the device before actually using the device.
Using the device for unintended purposes and unauthorised modifications to it absolves
CM3−Computer oHG of any obligations in the event of damage.

Connecting the Fax Modem
1. Plug the USB connector on the fax modem in a free USB port on the computer.
2. Connect the fax modem to a telephone connection socket using the telephone
cable supplied.
The telephone cable is equipped with an RJ11 connector for connection
to the telephone connection socket. Therefore, you may need an adap-
ter in order to connect the telephone cable to your telephone connection
socket.
Installing the Driver
In order that the fax modem can work together with your computer, you must install a
driver on the computer after connecting the modem.
The following instructions describe the installation according to the example using
Windows XP. The working steps may differ slightly if other Windows versions are
used.
After having connected the fax modem to your computer, the Found New Hardware
Wizard" dialogue box opens.
1. Select the No, not this time˜ option and click on the [Next] button.
2. Follow the prompt in the subsequent dialogue box and insert the Driver CD in
the CD−ROM drive. Then select the Install from a list or specific location˜ option
and click on the [Next] button.
3. When the next dialogue box appears, select the Search for the best driver in
these locations˜ and only select the Search removable media (floppy,
CD−ROM,...)" checkbox.
4. Click on the [Next] button.

After the driver has been installed for the fax modem, Completing the ....Wizard" ap-
pears.
5. Click on the [Finish] button to finalise the installation.
Installing the Fax Software in Windows XP
Windows XP is provided with a fax software which can be used to transmit and re-
ceive fax messages. Proceed as follows to install the fax software:
You can also purchase software from third−party providers in order to
be able to use all the functions available on your fax modem.
1. Click on the [Start] button and select Settings −> Control Panel".
2. Double−click on Software" in the Control Panel.
3. Click on the Add/Remove Windows Components" in the Software" dialogue
box.
4. Select the Fax Services" checkbox in the Windows Components Wizard".
5. Click on the [Next] button.
Depending on the scope of your Windows systems, it may now be necessary to insert
your Windows CD.
6. After completing the installation of the fax software, click on the [Finish] button.
Using the Fax Software
1. Click on the [Start] button and then select
All Programs −> Accessories −> Communication −> Fax −> Send a Fax".
The wizard guides you through installation of the fax services.
Select USB Data Fax Voice Modem" as the fax machine.

Disposal
In order to dispose of your device, take it to a collection point provided by your
local public waste authorities (e.g. recycling centre). According to laws on the
disposal of electronic and electrical devices, owners are obliged to dispose of
old electronic and electrical devices in a separate waste container.
The adjacent symbol indicates that the device must not be disposed of in nor-
mal domestic waste!
Packaging materials must be disposed of according to local regulations.
Guarantee
The terms of guarantee comply with the legal stipulations. The period for claims under
the terms of guarantee is two years. It begins on the date of supply, i.e. the date on
which it was handed over to the customer. In the case of a deficiency in respect of the
product, the customer has a right to supplementary performance. If the customer is
the consumer, he can choose between repair of the defect or supply of a flawless
product. We are permitted to refuse the type of supplementary performance selected if
it would lead to unreasonable costs and the other type of supplementary performance
would be of no significant disadvantage to the customer. If the customer is a contrac-
tor, we can choose between repair of the defect or supply of a flawless product. As-
suming all legal requirements have been fulfilled, the customer is also entitled to rights
of reduction and withdrawal as well as compensation. A manufacturer’s guarantee pro-
vided by a manufacturer of our products remains unaffected.
