Wi I need to ca ibrate the compass every time I use my radar detector?
No. The compass electronics hol s the information about the magnetic fiel s ma e by your vehicle.
However, for best results, you shoul mount the etector in exactly the same location every time you
use it. When you remove the etector from your win shiel , it is best to leave the mounting bracket on
your win shiel so that when you replace the etector it is mounte , again, in exactly the same place.
If you eci e to relocate your etector to a ifferent place (either on the win shiel or on the ash),
it is best to calibrate the compass again.
My compass sometimes seems to give a wrong direction – what is wrong?
If your compass is unable to etect the magnetic fiel of the Earth (use to etermine the irection),
it cannot give the correct rea ing. This may happen if you are un er a bri ge, insi e a parking garage,
or insi e any enclosure or buil ing that is constructe with metal framework. Other vehicles with a lot
of metal may also confuse your compass so that it cannot give accurate rea ings. This may happen if
you are next to a large tractor trailer, truck or train. Your compass will work again correctly as soon
as you get away from these locations. There is no nee to calibrate your compass again after this.

Before ca ibrating compass, se ect the ocation where the detector wi be mounted.
Enter the EasySet®Programming Menu by
pressing an hol ing the Program/Mute button Tone Visual Display
Three beeps Program
Press an release the Select/Dim button
until you see Set Compass isplaye One beep at each press Set Compass
Press an release the Set/City button One beep Drive in 2 circles...
Press SET hen
done...
Drive your vehicle in two complete circles* None
Press the Set/City button again Three beeps Compass Set!
* D ive you vehicle in two complete ci cles. A la ge pa king lot is the most convenient place to do this. Please be ca eful when
making the ci cles and watch fo othe t affic. It does not matte what di ection you vehicle is pointing when you sta t the ci cles,
which di ection you go to make the ci cles, and it does not have to be exactly two ci cles. You do NOT have to make pe fect ci cles.
You can d ive in any patte n, as long as you make two complete tu ns. Fou th ee-point tu ns, two small squa es, o any two
complete loops will wo k as well as two ci cles. It does not matte what size the ci cles a e, if you speed is constant, o how fast
you make the ci cles [but less than two minutes].

Turning On and Ca ibrating Your Compass
The compass in your ra ar etector must be turne on an be calibrate before it will show on the
isplay an give accurate irections. The compass ill sho — — until it is calibrated. The factory
default for Compass is off.
To etermine irection, the compass etects the weak magnetic fiel of the Earth. It also etects
the ifferent magnetic fiel s pro uce by your vehicle, your au io speakers, an other installe
electronics. Calibration allows the compass electronics to measure an store information about
all magnetic fiel s in your vehicle so that it can ignore them!
