Turn OFF your ra io when
in any area with a
potentially explosive
atmosphere. It is rare, but
not impossible that the
ra io or its accessories
coul generate sparks.

damag d or missing ant nna.
A minor burn may r sult if a
damag d ant nna com s into
contact with th skin.
R plac a damag d ant nna

OPERATING TIPS
Ant nna location and condition is
important wh n op rating a
portabl radio. Op rating th radio
in low ar as or t rrain, und r pow r
lin s or bridg s, insid of a v hicl
or in a m tal or st l fram d
building can s v r ly r duc th
rang of th unit. Mountains and
buildings can also r duc th
rang of th unit.
In ar as wh r transmission or
r c ption is poor, som
improv m nt may b obtain d by
nsuring that th ant nna is
v rtical. Moving a f w yards in
anoth r dir ction or moving to a
high r l vation may also improv
communications. V hicular
op ration can b aid d with th
us of an xt rnally mount d
ant nna.
Batt ry condition is anoth r
important factor in th troubl fr
op ration of a portabl radio.
Always us prop rly charg d
batt ri s.

16
For ffici nt radio op ration, hold
th front of th portabl radio
approximat ly two inch s from your
mouth and sp ak into th
microphon at a normal voic l v l.
K p th ant nna in a v rtical
position wh n r c iving or
