Mechanical Safety
Safety - C4000 Controller
Compac Industries Ltd.
Page 2

Safety - C4000 Controller
You must adhere to the following safety precautions at all times when
working on the Compac C4000 processor. Failure to observe these safety
precautions could result in damage to the Compac C4000 processor, injury,
or death.
Make sure that you read and understand all safety precautions before
operating the Compac Compac C4000 processor.
Mechanical Safety
Observe the following mechanical precautions:
Make sure that the service area is thoroughly clean when
servicing. Dust and dirt entering the components reduce the life span of the
components and can affect operation.
Electrical Safety
Observe the following electrical precautions:
Always turn off the power to the Compac C4000 processor
before opening the flame proof box. Never touch wiring or components
inside the high voltage area with the power on.
Always turn off the power to the Compac C4000 processor at
the mains switch before removing or replacing software or memory ICs.
Always take basic anti-static precautions when working on
the electronics, i.e., wearing a wristband with an earth strap.
Safety Precautions
The C4000 head, and its associated circuits and wiring, is a
certified piece of electrical equipment approved for use in a hazardous area
(Class 1 Zone 1, Group IIA T3). Only parts identical to those covered by the
certification may be used where the integrity of the intrinsic safety may be
affected. All circuit boards are to be repaired only by Compac Industries
Ltd.
Static Electricity Precautions
Electronic components used are sensitive to static. Please take anti-static
precautions.
All circuit boards must be carried and transported in static-shielded bags.
An anti-static wrist strap should be worn and connected correctly when
working on any electronic equipment. If an anti-static wrist strap is
unavailable, or in an emergency, hold onto an earthed part of the
pump/dispenser frame whilst working on the equipment. This is not a
recommended alternative to wearing an anti-static wrist strap.
Compac Industries Limited reserves the right to refuse to
accept any returned circuit boards if proper anti-static precautions have not
been taken.

Setting up the Futra on site
If the Futra is part of a Netbase system all Card data (Access
code, ISO number Cards Valid/Invalid) and Product price/grade must be
downloaded via either a modem or direct host from Netbase.
Apart from the Futra management functions all other installation information
is provided in the Installation sheet or the C4000 Service Manual
For the Futra to be able to accessed via a modem or direct host the
following parameters must be set up on site by the Installer.
(The Passcode and Site number must be set to the same numbers in both
the Futra and Netbase.)
Site Number
Passcode
Configuration Code (must have the 11th digit set to the appropriate
modem)
Electrical Connection
Refer to the C4000 Master Manual supplied with the pump/dispenser for
wiring instructions
Installation Procedure
Once the pump/dispenser is received on site, check for any damage that
may have occurred in transit, in particular damage to electronics due to
vibration and jarring. This includes the checking of all terminations and
plugs - including integrated circuit chips.

Configuration ('K' Factor)
Switch Settings
The Configuration Switch settings for the Futra software are the same as
for standard pump software. Refer to the main C4000 Service Manual.
These are set at Compac during manufacture and should not be changed.
In the event of the Configuration code being lost and having to be re-
entered, it is written on the yellow label on the C4000 Processor board
cover.
Parameter Switch Settings
The Parameter Switch has very few set-up options available when the
C4000 has Futra software installed. The two options are:
Displaying the Software Program Version Number
Setting the Pump/Dispenser Number
The setting of the price at the pump/dispenser for a Futra
C4000 is done using the Futra Controller Functions - 'SET GRADE
PRICE?' and 'SET PUMP GRADE?', not at the Parameter Switch as for a
C4000 with standard software.

Operation - Features
The Futra C4000 Pump/Dispenser Electronics has several optional
operating features.
Each fill requires authorisation either by card swipe, loading of a PIN
number or both of the above.
The pump/dispenser also has odometer reading entry and fill preset
capabilities that are optional in its set-up. These must be loaded into the
pump before the fill commences. After authorisation of the fill is carried out,
lifting of the nozzle will start the pump motor and flow will commence when
the nozzle trigger is operated. The filling operation, preset slow-down etc is
the same as for a pump/dispenser with standard C4000
electronics/software.
At the end of the fill the electronics has the capability to print audit trail
details via an audit trail printer as well as allocating each transaction to its
memory for either printing of reports, direct interrogation by host computer
or interrogation by host computer via a modem.
Reporting and deleting of transactions must be carried out periodically to
prevent the transaction memory buffer from filling completely. If this did
occur the pump/dispenser would be disabled until reporting and deleting
could be carried out.
For the capacity of the transaction memory buffer, see the table on the
following pages.
These instructions are to be used as guide-lines as subtle
differences in the system set-up may alter these figures slightly.
The Futra Software also has several options only available when used in
conjunction with a host computer running Compac NETBASE software. See
the section 'Using a Host Computer with the Futra Controller' for more
details.

Print One Card Transactions
This report is as for the 'Print Transactions' report except that a specific card
is singled out.
Delete Printed Transactions
Transactions stored in the C4000 memory can only be deleted once they
have been report 'printed'. Therefore before deleting is able to proceed, a
report must be carried out in which the transactions must be printed unless:
The controller is configured for deleting after totals only reporting or
The transactions can be 'printed' by up-loading them to a host computer
either directly or via a modem.
Once one of the above has been completed and this information is verified
and secure, deleting can proceed.
It is important to have a reasonably accurate idea of the
transaction buffer capacity, so that transactions can be reported and deleted
before the memory buffer fills completely, as this will disable further
transactions until the memory buffer is cleared.

Combined Card Swipe and PIN Authorisation
The Futra Controller pump/dispenser can be authorised by use of a card
swipe and then loading a four (4) digit number. There are three ways in
which this can be achieved.
1) The card may be encoded to request a specific PIN prompt. i.e. The
card determines whether there is a PIN prompt and what it is, therefore no
special controller set-up is required.
2) The controller memory can have a specific pin allocated to a specific
account/card number. [This is User Select Pin - refer set-up digit 4 Change
the System Set-up (see page 23)].
3) The controller memory can have a 'pool' of valid cards and a 'pool' of
valid pins and any valid pin may be entered to identify the user (and
authorise the transaction after any valid card is swiped). [This is User I.D.
Pin - see system set-up digit 4].
User Select PIN
For this system only 'limited validation cards', type validation is possible.
To validate User Select PIN: Validate each card as per 'Block or Unblock
Cards', and as each card is validated by pushing 'YES' the following prompt
will appear.
