Getting Started
Thank you for purchasing the Compaq iPAQ Connection Point CP-2E. The
Connection Point is designed to easi y connect your PC's to the Internet and
each other using fast Ethernet techno ogy. You can share a sing e Cab e or DSL
Internet connection throughout your home or sma office. You may a so share
fi es, printers, music, images and p ay head-to-head games whi e protected
behind the Connection Point's bui t-in firewa .
This Quick Setup Guide wi ead you through initia insta ation and setup of
your Connection Point. The guide assumes you wi be insta ing Connection
Point between your Cab e or DSL Modem and a PC with an Ethernet adapter.
P ease ensure you have the fo owing before continuing with this Guide:
> Externa Cab e or DSL Modem with an RJ45 Ethernet port
>Ethernet Adapter proper y insta ed in your PC
> CD Drive on your PC
> Microsoft Windows 98 or higher
> Web Browser: Internet Exp orer 4.0 or higher, Netscape Navigator 6.0 or
higher or MSN Exp orer

Note: If you are running Internet sharing software on this PC, it must be
removed now in order for Connection Point to operate proper y.

Power down Cab e or DSL modem. Disconnect existing
Ethernet cab e from PC.
Connect to the CP-2E port abe ed "Internet".

Connect one end of the supp ied Ethernet cab e to
the CP-2E port abe ed "1" and the other end to the
existing Ethernet port on your PC.

The Power LED and LAN 1 Link ight on the front pane shou d turn on

Windows XP automatica y configures itse f to connect to
CP-2E. If you are having prob ems connecting to the network,
verify the c ient setup by fo owing the steps be ow:
From the taskbar, se ect Start > Control Panel. Doub e-c ick
the Network Connections icon. Doub e-c ick the icon for the
individua connection you wish to configure. C ick Properties.
Se ect Internet Protocol
(TCP/IP) from the ist.
Components checked are
used by this connection.
Click Properties.
C ick the Obtain an IP address automatically
radio button. C ick the Obtain NS server
address automatically radio button. C ick OK.
The Network Connection Properties window

c ick the Network icon.The Network window is disp ayed.

C ick the IP Address tab. C ick the Obtain
an IP address automatically radio button.
C ick OK. The Network window is
disp ayed again. C ick OK. Restart the PC
to comp ete the process.
Note: You must restart your PC
before continuing, even if you are
not prompted to reboot.

Windows 98 and ME Setup
Choose “Insta Firmware Update Uti ity” and fo ow the wizard instructions.
This uti ity wi be used for emergency system recovery.
Choose Product Registration. Register your Connection Point for comp ete prod-
uct support.
Congratu ations! Your Connection Point is insta ed and functioning. It is pro-
viding firewa protection to your home or sma office network as you share
Internet access, fi es, printers, music, images and p ay head-to-head games.

Connection Point Setup
Access CP-2E
Bring up your computer's web browser, such as Microsoft
Internet Exp orer or Netscape Communicator. Type cp.home in
the address area and press enter. You may a so type in
192.168.1.1, which is the base address of CP-2E. The Quick
Setup Wizard wi begin.
C ick the Refresh button on your web
browser to verify that Internet
Connection reads Connected (in green
print). Proceed to Step 5 if you are
connected. If not, c ick the
Help/Troubleshooting icon on the
Home Page, or see MAC Spoofing in
Chapter 5 of the iPAQ Connection Point
CP-2E User Guide.
Note: When accessing the
management icons, the ogin screen
is disp ayed. P ease enter the same
Username and Password you
entered during the quick setup
process and c ick OK.
Fo ow the directions presented
in the Quick Setup Wizard. C ick
OK when the Comp eted screen
is disp ayed. CP-2E wi automati-
ca y reboot and the Home Page
wi be disp ayed.
