Congratulations on your new Wave Sport whitewater
kayak. You’re getting the most insane performance
technology available in whitewater, but your new
kayak is much more than that. It’s your boarding pass
to the journey.
It’s the same journey that those of us at Wave Sport
started more than 20 years ago in a small Colorado
factory. A couple of guys channeled their love for
skateboarding, snowboarding, and whitewater
kayaking into a revolution of performance on the
water. The rest is history.
You’re now ready to push your limits. Fortunately,
a Wave Sport kayak doesn’t have any. Whether you
want to go faster, slice easier, carve smoother, or just
turn more heads, your boat was uniquely designed by
somebody who wanted to do the same thing.
So tie your kayak down and get your gear together,
we’ll be looking for you on the water.

Any person using kayaks built and/or sold by Wave
Sport is personally responsible for determining that
their abilities are equal or superior to the conditions
encountered and exercising proper judgment in
choice of where and when to paddle.
Any person using Wave Sport kayaks assumes all
risks and takes complete responsibility for any
and all damages, or injuries, including death,
which may result from use or participation in
Wave Sport kayaks.
Whitewater kayaking can be the most exciting form
of paddlesports, which also increases the potential
risks. Safety and training are the most important part
of getting the most out of your kayaking experience.
Please read these safety tips carefully before hitting
the water.
Don’t:
• Never exceed your ability and assess how far and
how long you can paddle or swim.
• Never paddle alone.
• Never consume alcohol, drugs, or any other
substance that may aect your coordination,
judgment, or ability when paddling.
• Never paddle in ood conditions.
• Never allow minors to use the boat without adult
supervision.
• Avoid bracing yourself in the kayak in such a way
that you have to release any outtting to escape.
Do:
• Wear a Coast Guard approved personal otation
device (PFD).
• Always wear a helmet when paddling.
• Get paddlesports and rescue instruction from a
licensed or certied instructor.
• When traveling with a group, ensure that everyone
can handle the diculty gradient of the river.
• Dress appropriately for weather conditions; cold
water and/or weather can result in hypothermia.
• Check your equipment prior to each use for signs
of wear or failure. Recheck periodically throughout
your trip.
• Scout unfamiliar waters. If necessary, paddle to
shore and carry your boat past uncertain areas.
• Stay aware of appropriate river water levels, tidal
changes, dangerous currents, and weather changes.
• Follow manufacturer’s recommendations for use
and outtting of your kayak.
• Leave your paddling location and agenda with
someone at home before departing.
• Always use supplemental otation.
Improper transportation technique is one of the
main causes of kayak damage. The following tips will
help you safely transport your kayak and minimize
potential hull damage.
It is possible for a kayak strapped tightly to a roof
rack for a series of days to temporarily deform at the
weight bearing points. Use a rigid bar sport rack in
addition to a “kayak cradle” to disperse the weight.
It is also important to avoid keeping kayaks tied
tightly to your vehicle in direct sunlight. This could
cause deformation of the hull over time.
rooF raCK
A crossbar roof rack (or “sports rack”) for your vehicle
with the kayak positioned on its side is the best
method of transporting a kayak. It should be lashed
down at each crossbar, as well as at the bow and
stern to each end of the vehicle. Kayaks can also be
transported on their edge safely using kayak stackers.
Kayak cradles are recommended for boats being
transported “at” to lessen chances of deformation
from being lashed too tightly to the bars. It is also
recommended that the kayak be transported upside
down as it is more aerodynamic and will prevent
water from lling the cockpit during rain.
uSinG Foam BloCK raCKS
Foam block racks can be used for short distances or
lower speed transportation. They should be wide
enough for adequate support, as well. Use extra caution
with foam blocks as they are not as secure as cross-bar
racks. Foam blocks also make it essential to tie o the
bow and stern of the kayaks directly to the vehicle.
air travel
Many airlines do not allow kayaks to be transported
on the plane when you travel by air. Contact your air
carrier well in advance of your trip to see if they allow
you to check a whitewater kayak and how much they
charge. You should invest in a kayak travel bag if you
do transport a kayak by air.
WarninG:
Kayaking can be hazardous with potential risk of
serious injury and even death.
important:
It is recommended to always stop shortly after
the start of your trip to make sure all ttings and
connections are secure and that the kayak will
not shift during travel.
Caution:
travelinG in inClement Weather:
Position kayak upside down if possible when
inclement weather is threatening. A kayak can ll
with water when it rains and become dangerous
to your vehicle or others as it becomes heavy.
Use a portage cover to seal the cockpit if a
“bottom up” position is not possible. Be sure to
periodically check your straps to make sure they
have not stretched while wet.

Short term StoraGe
Be sure to empty the kayak of all water. The kayak
may be stored on its side or in a vertical position
temporarily. Storage in these positions for an extended
period of time could cause attening or deformation
in the side of the hull.
lonG term StoraGe
In addition to emptying all water out, you should
clean the kayak by rinsing with freshwater. Store out
of direct sunlight and indoors, if possible. UV exposure
can shorten the lifespan of any kayak and can degrade
its nish. Be sure to not leave straps or ropes tightly
wound around the hull for extended periods of time as
it may cause deformation. Your kayak should be stored
hull up on parallel bars with weight supported evenly
throughout its length.
Care anD maintenanCe
Your kayak is made of durable polyethylene and can
last many years with proper care and sensible use. A
certain amount of impact and abrasion damage is to
be expected due to the nature of whitewater paddling.
If you notice excessive wear or gouging on the hull you
should consider altering your paddling technique to
prolong the life of your kayak.
Continual exposure to abrasion can roughen the hull
surface. Scratching is often cosmetic or supercial and
requires no repair.
It is important to be able to determine when damage
is cosmetic or impacts the structure of the hull.
Impacts are much more likely than scratches to result
in structural damage. Inspect your hull after suering
a collision.
As durable as it is, polyethylene is not indestructible.
However, should the worst happen, it is repairable;
simply contact your local Wave Sport dealer.
CleaninG
Usually, a quick rinse of fresh water is all that is
necessary to keep your hull clean and functioning in
good order. This is very important after paddling in
chlorinated water or salt water. Thoroughly rinse the
kayak and remove all residue to prevent corrosion of
metal components.
Supercial scratches may occur, but can be removed
or reduced by use of a marine boat polish designed
for polyethylene hulls. Sanding or use of an abrasive
rubbing compound is not recommended.
Next to damage during use, the greatest threat to
the kayak is degradation due to UV exposure. The
kayak should be stored out of direct sunlight, as the
polyethylene will become more exible in warm
conditions. To keep your kayak shining and minimize
the long-term degradation caused by UV exposure,
use an ultraviolet protectant such as 303 Aerospace
Protectant, available at your local Wave Sport dealer.
iF your KayaK neeDS a repair
Although it is unlikely that your kayak will need repair
during its lifetime, it is possible that a hull crack or
puncture might occur due to extreme impact or
contact with a sharp object.
If this happens do the following:
1. Contact Wave Sport or your Wave Sport dealer to
determine if the damage falls under the boat’s warranty.
2. We will need the serial number of your kayak (located
on the stern), a good description of the damage (a
photograph is very helpful), and a description of the
incident during which the damage occurred.
3. As an owner of a boat made from polyethylene
plastic, one repair option which may be available
to you is welding. Polyethylene is recyclable and
repairable, unlike many other plastics.
Incidents necessitating welding happen to less than
one percent of Wave Sport boats, but if for some reason
you should get a crack or hole in your boat, contact us
and we will send you the materials and instructions
necessary to return your boat to peak condition.

StoraGe
WarninG:
Avoid dragging kayak across the ground to
prolong its life and maintain its look and
performance.
hull Care
Caution:
Do not suspend your kayak by using the grab
loops at either end of the boat. This can cause
the hull to distort over time.

89
While kayaking requires certain equipment, such as a
paddle, helmet, and a Personal Flotation Device (PFD),
you can increase both your trip enjoyment and safety
with other essential accessories.
pFD (perSonal Flotation DeviCe)
A USCG approved, comfortable and secure tting PFD
should be worn at all times. Shorter PFDs are available
that are ideal for kayak paddling.
helmet
You should always wear an appropriate helmet while
paddling whitewater.
paDDle
Typically, a whitewater paddle will be shorter than the
average touring paddle and have a larger blade face.
Your local Wave Sport dealer should be able to help
you decide on a paddle to suit your needs. It is always
a good idea to carry a backup paddle that can be
broken down to t in the stern of your kayak.
SaFety equipment
USCG regulations require an audible signal device
(a horn or whistle) to be used in all watercraft.
perSonal Gear
Items you should keep with you on every trip include:
Sunscreen, sunglasses, plenty of drinking water, insect
repellent, compass, rescue knife, waterproof ashlight,
matches or lighter, and rst aid kit.
SpraySKirt
A sprayskirt is worn by the paddler to create a
watertight seal, preventing the cockpit from lling up
with water. You should always paddle with a sprayskirt
in place to facilitate rolling and prevent the kayak from
getting swamped.
Flotation BaGS
If you are forced to exit your kayak and it becomes
swamped, recovery becomes more dicult. By
installing inatable oat bags you can reduce the
volume of water a swamped kayak will take on. Typical
installation on a kayak will be two bags, one on either
side of the stern pillar.
throW BaG
In the event of an emergency while on the water, a
throw bag can help you reach a swimmer or help free
your kayak. A throwbag should have a minimum of 50
feet of cord.

FinDinG your Serial numBer
The serial number is located near the stern (rear) of
the boat, just below the line where the deck and side
meet. On most boats it is engraved in an indention on
the right side of the boat.
notiCe: State reGulationS
Some states require that all kayaks be registered. To
register your kayak you will need your Manufacturer’s
Statement of Origin (MSO). This serves as the title to
your kayak and should have been provided when you
took delivery. If not, check with your retailer. If it has
been lost, have your dealer contact Wave Sport and we
will provide a replacement.
Note: Make sure the serial number on your MSO
matches that on your hull.
