INTRODUCTION
WARRANTY
The UrbanPond®is an underground modular storage system designed for stormwater retention,
detention, harvesting, or infiltration. UrbanPond®utilizes the strength and durability of precast
concrete to create an efficient and resilient stormwater management solution. A modular design
gives UrbanPond®the flexibility to meet nearly any site requirements with configurations ranging
from 2’ to 14’ inside height. Modules are delivered ready to be installed, minimizing staging
requirements and decreasing installation times.
UrbanPond®can be installed in a variety of configurations and heights. Taller systems are installed
stacked with top and inverted bottom modules. Shorter systems consist of the top modules only
placed upon a concrete slab. Either configuration can be combined with a membrane liner for leak
resistant applications. Installation procedures for each configuration are described herein.

Determine if Membrane Liner is Needed
Most projects only require a single layer of geotextile fabric.
Projects with a containment membrane liner require placement
of a first layer of geotextile fabric, then the liner layer, followed
by another layer of geotextile fabric on top. This reduces
abrasion against the liner and prevents punctures. Check your
project drawings to see if a containment membrane liner is
required.

INSTRUCTIONS
Check Project Drawings
Set Fabric
Excavate Installation Location
Begin step 1 by checking your project drawings for the general
location and position of the modules. In this example, the
walls labeled A, are identical exterior walls. The wall labeled
A A is the inlet wall, and the wall labeled B B is the outlet wall.
Next, place a flattened layer of geotextile fabric on the bottom
surface. You may need to overlap multiple pieces to achieve
proper coverage. Check your project drawings to see if a
containment membrane liner is required.
Prepare the location where you are going to install the
UrbanPond system. Check the project drawings for installation
requirements such as soil type, backfill, and groundwater. The
modules have a 12 inch minimum cover requirement from the
top of module to the finished surface. Check project drawings
for all elevations. Excavate as required.

INSTRUCTIONS
Mark 12’’ Clearance
Set the Corner Perimeter Module
6.
1.
Step 1 - Site Preperation
If using precast slabs, ensure slabs are set level, and at proper
elevation.
The foundation slab should have 12 inches of clearance around
all sides from the edge of slab to the UrbanPond walls and
modules. Use a chalk line to mark the 12 inch clearance all
around.
6
Locate the corner on your slab, and set the
UrbanPond module using the appropriate rigging
and lifting method.
If the first module you are installing requires a
perimeter wall, then you will need to mark a second
line 7 inches beyond the 12 inch chalk line, for a
total of 19 inches. Verify that you have a 12 inch
clearance on the solid side, and a 19 inch clearance
on the open side where the wall will be installed
later. The walls will be installed at a later step.
Make sure the module is flat and leveled before
setting additional modules. If needed, apply grout
at the bottom to set the module level.
Concrete Foundation Slab
Next, after setting the required fabric, set the poured-in-place
concrete foundation slab. Assemble rebar reinforcement
and pour a smooth and level base slab as required per the
construction documents.
Single module installations require a base slab to support the
modules and soil backfill. Ensure the base slab has cured to
proper strength prior to setting modules.

4.
Step 2 - Setting the Modules
In this configuration, the single modules on a slab will not
require LinkUp slabs. The modules shall be installed per
construction documents to ensure proper module orientation.
3.
Continue setting one module at a time.
Verify with a hand level and tape measure that the modules
are spaced and leveled properly. Only use a hand level if the
concrete structure is placed flat.

Set The Second Module
Next, install the second module adjacent to the previously
installed module. The second module shall be placed as close
as possible, with a gap no greater than 3/4’’ inch.
Maintain the 12 inch clearance from the edge of the slab.
Continue installing the adjacent modules one at a time.
2.
Install all Remaining Modules
5.
Repeat the previous steps. Continue installing all
Modules per your project Drawings.

INSTRUCTIONS
Set the LinkUp Slab
Instalilng the LinkUP Slabs
Next, cover the opening by setting the LinkUP Slab in place.
Slowly lower the Linkup Slab to allow the 3 inch keyway to fit
between the 4 supporting modules, and equal overlap across
all 4 supporting modules for even weight distribution.
Check your project drawings for the proper location of each
LinkUP Slab.
To install the LinkUP slabs, first place the 4 supporting
modules in their final positions. It’s best to install LinkUP
slabs as you go, rather than waiting until the end to ensure
proper module spacing and optimal fit.
4.
2.
Step 2.1 - Setting the Modules With LinkUp Slabs
8
Apply Butyl Rubber Sealant
3.
Once the supporting modules are in place, apply butyl rubber
sealant to all 4 modules.

Check your project drawings. If your assembly does not
require a LinkUP Slab, then you may skip this step.
Install the first row of modules as shown on step 2. Reference
step 2 for instructions.
1.

Step 3 - Installing the Exterior Walls
Secure the Walls
The walls have slotted holes in them for anchoring.
Using a drill with a quarter inch drill bit, drill into the perimeter
modules. The drilled holes should match the slotted holes on
the walls.

Step 5 - Bakfill & Compaction
13
Secure the Geotextile Fabric
Before adding the backfill, fold the geotextile fabric out of
the excavation pit to cover the modules. You can secure the
geotextile in place using strips of joint tape if needed.
If your assembly does not require a containment membrane
liner, then fold and tape the single layer of geotextile fabric a
minimum of 12 inches up from the base of the module.
1.
Check Project Drawings If Liner Is Needed
2.
If your assembly requires a containment liner, then the liner
and geotextile fabric layers will cover the perimeter walls
completely and fold 18 inches over the top of each module.
Pipe penetrations will require the geotextile fabric and liner
to be cut and fitted with a pipe boot per the manufacturer’s
recommendations. Fold and tape the fabric as required to
stay in place during backfill and compaction activities.
Backfill One Side At a Time
Begin backfilling only after all modules, walls, and pipe
connections have been installed, and all fabric is properly
folded.
Finally, add the backfill one side at a time.
3.
Check Project Drawings
Make sure to leave a minimum of 12 inches of clearance
between the top of the modules and the final surface. See
plans for elevations.
