Section 1: Introduction
The XW-110 and XW-111 are easy t use wireless Wi-Fi temperature m nit ring and status alerting
devices. The XW-110 measures and rep rts temperature using a temperature pr be which c ntains a
precisi n digital sens r. The XW-111 m nit rs and rep rts the status f switch cl sure sens rs and
alarms. B th are ideal f r applicati ns where temperature r events must be m nit red and Ethernet
wiring is n t accessible r practical t install.
The m dules are p wered by an external wall transf rmer (5V DC), r by tw internal AA batteries. In
the case b th are installed, the XW-11x will use the wall transf rmer and aut matically switch t the
batteries in the event f a p wer failure. Only use batteries t pr vide backup p wer, r f r m des where
the web server is n t being used. If the internal web server is enabled in the XW-11x, the unit will need
t be p wered by an external wall transf rmer. S me c nfigurati ns c nsume m re p wer than thers
leading t s me scenari s where battery perati n is n t practical. F r example, measuring and
transmitting the temperature every five sec nds c uld result in depleting the batteries very quickly.
Having m re features enabled and/ r increased rep rting rate leads t l wer battery life.
The XW-11x can utilize ne f tw m des f perati n. The first being the "Stand-Al ne" m de which
makes the XW-11x a self-c ntained device that requires n additi nal servers r C ntr lByWeb devices.
In this m de the XW-11x pr ducts can pr vide live, real-time temperatures r input status directly t
users thr ugh web br wsers r the CBW M bile app. In additi n, the stand-al ne m de ffers the ability
t m nit r temperature r input status and send ut email alerts (which can be c nverted t text
message alerts) whenever an alarm c nditi n ccurs. The sec nd m de f perati n is "Slave" m de
which is used f r measuring and rep rting the temperature r input status t ther C ntr lByWeb
devices. In this m de, the XW-11x is n t directly accessible t the user. Temperature r input status is
transmitted t a server r an ther C ntr lByWeb device such as the X-600M c ntr ller which acts as a
"master.” The master device uses the inf rmati n pr vided by the XW-11x as it w uld use inf rmati n
c llected by any ther sens r.
A three-p siti n terminal strip pr vides c nnecti ns f r a temperature sens r r up t tw switch-cl sure
sens rs f r the XW-110 and XW-111 respectively. N ther cables, interfaces, r PC utility pr grams are
needed.
Tw user accessible push-butt n switches aid in pr visi ning the m dule. Press the “Access P int”
butt n anytime t active the access p int m de. With a PC r smart ph ne y u then c nnect t and
access the internal web server n matter what m de the unit is currently set t . Using the web server,
y u c nfigure the measurement interval, access p rt, name, and ther setup parameters. Alternatively,
add the XW-11x t an existing netw rk by pressing the “WPS” (Wi-Fi Pr tected Setup) butt n n b th

2.4 rovisioning
After making the sens r c nnecti ns and pr viding p wer, y u must pr visi n the XW-11x f r use n
y ur wireless netw rk. The g al is t c nfigure the XW-11x such that it can rec gnize and attach t y ur
Wi-Fi access p int. There are tw meth ds f r d ing this:
1. Access oint
By default, the XW-11x c mes up as a wireless access p int when p wered f r the first time. Pressing
the "access p int" push butt n any time als activates the access p int m de. It isn't really an access
p int because it will n t pr vide internet c nnectivity t y ur c mputer r smart ph ne, but it will appear
as an access p int meaning that y ur c mputer r smart ph ne will detect it as an access p int and
display it as such. When acting as an access p int, the XW-11x br adcasts an SSID f “XW110-
XXXXXX” r “XW111-XXXXXX” where XXXXXX are the last six digits f its MAC address.
With y ur wireless device (lapt p c mputer r smart ph ne) scan f r, and attach t the XW110 r XW111
wireless netw rk. Next, access the web server in the XW-11x using a web br wser. T access the setup
pages, enter the f ll wing URL in the address bar f y ur web br wser:
http://192.168.1.2/setup.html
After the page is requested, a passw rd pr mpt will appear. Enter the username and passw rd. The
username is admin and the passw rd is webrelay (passw rd is case sensitive). The next chapter
explains each f the setup tabs and screens. Use the WiFi Networks tab f r making the pr per settings
t all w the XW-11x t c nnect t y ur access p int.
Notes About Access Point Mode:
•Operates at full p wer and will c nsume large am unts f energy and drain batteries quickly. It is
rec mmended that y u use a wall-transf rmer t p wer the unit when perating in access p int
m de r c nfigure the XW-11x quickly.
•As an Access Point the XW-11x functi ns independently f ther wireless netw rks. It
br adcasts beac ns and services WiFi packet requests. In this m de, y ur c mputer r smart-
ph ne is "c nnected" directly with the XW-11x n a private netw rk and is NOT using an ther
wifi netw rk. Typically y u w uld use this f r c nfigurati n and n t f r n rmal perati n.
•The XW-11x has n hardware “rest re defaults” butt n, t prevent the installer fr m being l cked
ut, the default username (admin) and passw rd (webrelay) always w rk in the access p int
m de, even if the passw rd is changed. If the passw rd has changed via the assword tab,
b th the new passw rd and the webrelay passw rd will w rk.
•Only ne client (c mputer r smart-ph ne) can be c nnected t XW-11x at a time.
•SSID and passw rd cann t be cust mized ( nce again this m de is intended f r c nfigurati n
nly).
•Access p int is unsecured and pen.
2. W S (Wi-Fi rotected Setup)
The WPS Push button method, pr vides a simple meth d f r attaching the XW-11x t a wireless
netw rk with ut needing t use any setup pages. Alth ugh using this meth d t c nnect the XW-11x t
the netw rk is simple, y u will n t be able t access the XW-11x web server unless y u kn w the IP
address that was assigned by the DHCP sever (r uter) r unless mDNS services are available n y ur
device. F r this reas n, it is rec mmended that y u use this meth d f c nfigurati n nly when the XW-
11x units have been pre-c nfigured t perate in a n n-web-server m de r when y u have full access

t the DHCP server s y u can btain the IP address that was assigned.
T begin, press the WPS butt n n y ur wireless r uter r access-p int. Y u will generally have ab ut
tw minutes t c nnect wireless devices t the netw rk with WPS. N w rem ve the c ver f the XW-11x
and press the “WPS” push butt n. After a few sec nds, the XW-11x sh uld register itself with the r uter
r access-p int. If WPS fails, the XW-11x will aut matically enter the access p int m de.
The XW-11x will use DHCP t btain an IP address after a successful WPS ass ciati n. Additi nally, the
c nnecti n inf rmati n is als br adcast using mDNS. If y u need t access the XW-11x using its
internal web server y u will need t btain the IP address that was assigned t the XW-11x thr ugh y ur
DHCP server r r uter. Alternatively, if using an mDNS capable device, it may be accessed by entering
nce f the f ll wing int the address bar f y ur web br wser:

pages are used by an installer t pr visi n and c nfigure the XW-11x. The Control pages (in c mparis n
with ther C ntr lByWeb devices) d n't really c ntr l anything h wever, they display temperature and
digital input status inf rmati n. The C ntr l page displays measurement and status inf rmati n f r the
user.
T access the setup pages, enter the f ll wing URL in the address bar f a web br wser:
http://192.168.1.2/setup.html
T access the control page, enter the f ll wing URL in the address bar f a web br wser:
http://192.168.1.2
The internal web server is enabled by default in the stand-al ne m de and disabled in the slave m de. If
y u wish t access t the web server when it is disabled, press and h ld the WPS butt n f r 10
sec nds. This will temp rarily enable the web-server f r 5 minutes r until the unit is reb ted.
N te that if y u are accessing the unit as an access p int the ab ve IP address will w rk even if y u
have changed the IP address in the setup pages. If y u are accessing the unit thr ugh the netw rk after
it has been c nfigured (and the web server remains enabled) y u will use the IP address that was
assigned t the device.
If the XW-11x has been added t a netw rk using WPS, it will use DHCP and y u will need t use the IP
address assigned t it. This can be f und in the DHCP server, r by using mDNS. The mDNS name is
http://xw-110.local/ f r the XW-110, and http://xw-111.local/ f r XW-111.
3.1 Main Tab
This is the initial page that is displayed
when setup.html is entered in the address
bar f the br wser. It displays m del and
serial number inf rmati n, and has
navigati n tabs which all w access t the
c nfigurati n and setup settings.
The web pages and c mmunicati n
settings f r the XW-110 and XW-111 have
many c mm n settings. Pages with
settings specific f r each m del are
sh wn separately in the f ll wing
secti ns.

This field sh ws if the XW-11x is currently being p wered by batteries r the DC wall transf rmer. The
battery v ltage is peri dically measured and an estimate is made f the remaining battery life. If the
m dule is p wered by the DC wall transf rmer the v ltage is measured with n l ad n the battery. The
calculati ns are made f r alkaline “AA” batteries with a usable capacity f 2000mAH. When using ther
types f batteries r in c ld c nditi ns, the displayed estimate may be in err r. Depending n the activity,
the battery life estimate may fluctuate (perhaps even increase) as the l ad current changes. The battery
v ltage may rec ver (increase) when the XW-11x enters its l w p wer sleep m de after a peri d f high
current perati n.
Signal Strength
This indicates the current receive Wi-Fi signal strength. The m re negative the number the less signal is
being received. -30dBm is a str ng signal, and -90dBm is a very weak signal.

Use DHC
This pti n all ws DHCP t be enabled r disabled. If this pti n is set t Yes, the XW-11x will wait f r
an IP address fr m a DHCP server each time it is p wered. The default setting is No (this is
rec mmended f r m st installati ns). If DHCP is set t Yes, the Netw rk page must be submitted and
the XW-11x must be reb ted bef re an IP address will be assigned. Once the XW-11x is assigned an
IP address by the DHCP, the new IP address can be f und thr ugh the clients list kept by the DHCP
server. F r m st instances, this is f und n the l cal gateway r r uter. Alternatively, the device will
br adcast its inf rmati n via mDNS. By n t using DHCP, battery life is extended as the device d es n t
expend energy f r transmitting requests and receiving resp nses every time it c nnects t the WiFi
netw rk.
Brief Notes About DHC
All devices n an IP netw rk require an IP address. This is a unique address that identifies each device
n the netw rk. DHCP (Dynamic H st C ntr l Pr t c l) is a mechanism that aut matically assigns an IP
address t a c mputer ( r ther devices) when it is c nnected t a netw rk. This eliminates the need t
manually enter the IP address. When a c mputer is c nnected t the netw rk, an ther device n the
netw rk called a DHCP server detects the presence f the c mputer and dynamically assigns the IP
address t that c mputer. On many small netw rks, the DHCP server is built int the r uter.
DHCP w rks well f r "client" devices such as c mputers, but is n t ideal f r servers. This is because
servers usually d n't initiate c mmunicati ns with ther devices, but rather they wait f r a request fr m
"clients." T make this request, the client must kn w the IP address f the server. If a server gets its IP
address dynamically, the IP address may n t always be the same s client devices may n t be able t
find the server. F r this reas n, servers usually use an IP address that is fixed and d es n t change.
The XW-11x is a server and manual IP address assignment is usually rec mmended.
I Address
Enter the IP address f r the XW-11x in this field. The IP address is specific t the netw rk where the
