GETTING
STARTED
The

to
back
up
information
stored
on
Corvus
disk
systems.
This
quide
explains
how
to
use
the

a
sinqle
volume,
an
entire
disk

or
a
specified

An
imaqe
is
a

An

The
Mirror

is
a
network

INSTALLING
THE
HARDWARE
AND
SOFTWARE
1
To
use
the
Mirror
Server
backup
interface
system
on
an
omninet
local
area
network,
you
must
install
the
Mirror
server
hardware
and
copy
the
Mirror
server
software
to
a
network
disk
system.
Once
installed,
the
Mirror
Server
provides
an
efficient
way
to
back
up
the
data
on
network
disk
systems.
Installing
the
Mirror
Server
hardware
involves
three
steps.
First,
install
a
network
tap
for
the
Mirror
Server.
Second,
connect
the
Mirror
Server
to
the
network.
Third,
connect
a
video
cassette
recorder
to
the
Mirror
Server.
Installing
the
Mirror
server
software
involves
two
steps.
First
copy
the
software
from
the
update
diskette
supplied
with
the
Mirror
Server
to
a
network
disk
system.
Second,
make a
copy
of
the
Mirror
Server
boot
diskette.
The
software
will
be
copied
to
a
system
volume
that
was
created
during
system
generation.
The
volume
name
will
vary
depending
on
the
computer
type,
but
the
last
three
letters
of
the
volume
will
be
SYS.
For
example,
if
using
the
Mirror
Server
with
an
IBM
(R)
Personal
Computer,
the
system
volume
is
IBMSYS.
The
boot
diskette
must
be
duplicated
before
use.
The
diskette
supplied
by
Corvus
is
write-protected,
but
the
program
needs
to
write
to
the
floppy
that
is
used.
Copy
the
supplied
diskette
to
a
blank
diskette
and
store
the
original.
Run
the
program
from
the
duplicate
floppy.
Disk
servers
on
the
network
must
be
updated
to
ROM
version
DSD9B
or
later
before
installing
the
Mirror
Server.
The
disk
servers
need
to
be
updated,
or
data
may
be
lost
during
Mirror
backup.
To
update
a
disk
server,
contact
the
Corvus
Customer
Service
department
or
your
local
Corvus
dealer.
