convected heated air out
Fumes up flue
Principle workings of a gas fire with a diverter or flue break
Ambient air
from room being
drawn up flue will
only work if flue is
completely sealed in
This is what takes the
fumes up the
chimney
convected air in
gas controls
FLOOR
lintel
ambient air in room enters the appliance some of this air is used to feed gas burner with primary
and secondary air
the ambient air warms as it circulates the
as the ambient air warms and rises it gets hotter and comes back into the room as convected heat
KEYS
Fumes from appliance travel from burner through hole in top of appliance down the diverter and up
the flue this will only work if the flue is sealed and can only pull through the diverter
ambient air is pulled in through the diverter only if flue is sealed ,this has to happen or
the fire will spill products of combustion into the room
TO ASSIST INSTALLER
This diagram shows the appliance and how it
basically works
The air for the appliance convection and
combustion enter the appliance at the bottom of
the appliance ,the combustion air enters the
burner at the injector and the secondary air
around the burner ,this must be kept clear at all
times
The convected air travels up the rear of the
appliance warming up and finally over the hottest
part of the appliance at the top and then back into
the room as convected hot air to heat the room
The fumes leave the flames from the burner and
enter the diverter at the top of the appliance ,with
the ambient air from the room entering the
diverter also due to the natural draught of the
flue they will be drawn up the flue and safely into
the atmosphere
if the flue is not completely sealed this process
may not work and dangerous fumes can enter the
room and be dangerous or even fatal

THE ABOVE DIAGRAM SHOWS THE WAY THE CF1L BOSTON
& CF1L WIDE BOSTON WORKS ,FOLLOW THIS CAREFULLY
THE FIRE MUST BE SEALED IN AIRTIGHT FOR THE SAFE
OPERATION AND USE OF THIS APPLIANCE
THE ONLY PLACE THE FLUE SHOULD PULL IS THROUGH THE
DIVERTER
