Mains plug and mainslead
We have fitted thisequipment with a standardmains plug.
If you cut offthe mains plug orfit a different type,destroy the old plug,as it is dangerousto
insert it into alive power outlet.
If a fuse isfitted to the plug,remove the fuse beforethrowing the plug away.
Carefully follow the wiringinstructions supplied with anew mains plug.
Never use a fusedmains plug without thefuse cover.
If the mains leadbecomes damaged, it mustbe replaced by themanufacturer, its service
agent or similarly qualifiedperson with an approvedmains lead of thesame type and rating
to avoid a hazard.
Make sure the mainslead cannot be walkedon crushed, chafed orcut and that itis routed in
such a way asto reduce the riskof a tripping hazard.
Do not let themains lead hang overedge of a tableor counter or comeinto contact with hot
surfaces.
Do not immerse themains lead or mainsplug in water orany other liquid.
Mains plug wiring forthe UK
In a re wirableplug the wires inthe mains lead ofthis equipment must beconnected as
follows.
The wire coloured brownmust be connected tothe terminal that ismarked with the letterL.
The wire coloured bluemust be connected tothe terminal that ismarked with the letterN.
There is no greenor green and yellowwire. Do not connectanything
To theEarth terminal which ismarked E, or witha symbol.
You mustmake sure the mainslead is firmly securedunder the cord clamp.
Mains fuse
UK standard (BS1363) plugsmust be fitted witha BS1362 standard fuserated at 3Aor 5A.
Ventilation
Allow at least a10cm gap all around.Don't obstruct the ventilationslots with soft furnishings.
Overheating will increase therisk of fire.
Cleaning
Disconnect the mains supplyand use only alightly dampened soft cloth.Do not use chemical
solvents or strong detergentsas these may damagethe cosmetic finish.
Never allow water dropletsto remain on thescreen as moisture cancause permanent
discoloration. Greasy marks must
be removed using acommercially available cleaner forLCD screens.
Batteries
Remove batteries when theremote control is notto be used fora long time. Batteriesleft in
the product may causedamage through deterioration andcorrosive leakage, invalidating the
guarantee. Toprotect the environment, uselocal recycling facilities fordisposal. Never throw
batteries on a fire! Danger of explosion.
Wall or stand mounting
Products that may bemounted on a standor wall must besecurely attached in accordance
with the installation instructions.Never fit non-approved standsor legs.
For wall mounting, alwaysensure the area tobe drilled is freefrom electrical wires, water
and gas pipes, byusing a suitable locatordevice.
Do not expose thisproduct to dripping orsplashing or place anyobjects filled with
liquids, such as vases,on the product.
Never put a nakedflame source such aslighted candles on ornear the product.
Pull the mains plugout of the wallsocket and disconnect theexternal aerial during
thunderstorms.
If anything goes wrong,don't try and fixit yourself, get aqualified service agent to
carry out any repairsor maintenance.

If the mains switchdoes not disconnect theproduct from the mains:The mains plug

Power supply
Make sure the voltagemarked on the ratingplate on the rearof the product matches
the supply in yourarea.
An incorrect supply voltageis dangerous and mayresult in a fireor damage to theproduct.
The manufacturer accepts noresponsibility for any damageor injury resulting from
connecting to any voltageother than that specifiedon the rating platelocated on the backof

1.RF IN : This socket connects to your external aerial.
2.RF LOOP THROUGH: This socket will bypass the RF signalto either your TVor
another video system.
3.VCR SCART: This socket connects toeither a DVD orother video system.

5.COAXIAL: This socket connects toa coaxial socket onyour surround sound system.
6.MAINS CABLE: This is used toconnect to your mainpower supply.
1. Standby Indicator:Used to visually showpower state of theset top box, thegreen
LED will show ifturned on the settop box and thered LED will belight if the set top
box entered standby mode.
2. REMOTE CONTROL SENSOR:Used to receive thesignal from the remotecontrol.

1. MUTE Used to turn the sound on or off.
2. NUMBER KEYS:Used to select channel numbers or
input numbers in menus.
3.TV/RADIO: Used to switch between TV channels and
Radio stations.
4. INFO Used to display information about the channel
being viewed or further information about the program
when in normal play mode.
5. SUBTITLE: Used to switch between different subtitles
that are broadcasted .
6. EXIT:Used to clean all menus and return to non-menu
state for playing.
7. CH+: Used to move around the menu screens or
selecting the channels in non-menu state.
8. VOL+:Used to move around the menuscreens or
changing the volume in non-menu state.
9. OK: Used to confirm a selection within a menu.
11. PAGE+:Used to page up, when thereare pages
(i.e.channel list).
12. DTV/VCR: Used to switch between the VCR SCART
input and the DTV output mode.
13.STANDBY Used to switch the set top box to on or
standby.
14. FAV: Used to switch access your favourite channels.
Note: SUBTITLE/TEXT/AUDIO may not be available for all channels.
16. MENU:Used to open the main menu orreturn to the previous menu.
17. EPG: Used to display information about the program beingviewed and what's on next.

Remove the battery coverfrom the remote controland put 2xAAAsize batteries inside
the compartment.
The diagram inside thebattery compartment shows thecorrect way to installthe
batteries.

Using the Remote Control
To usethe remote control, pointit towards the frontof the digital settop box The remote
control has a rangeof up to 7metres from the settop box at anangle of up to60 degrees.
The remote control willnot operate if itspath is blocked.
Sunlight or very brightlight will decrease thesensitivity of the remote
control.
Connections
Caution: Make sure to checkthe voltage specification ofthe wall outlet isthe same
rating with the receiver. Toprevent the risk ofelectric shock, do notopen the cover or
the back of thereceiver.

Note: When connecting the receiverto other equipment, e.g.,TV, VCRand amplifier,
make sure to referto relevant user manualfor instruction. Also,make sure you
disconnect all the equipmentsfrom the mains supplybefore the connection.

User Interface
The 'Exit 'key will remove alldigital menus.
The exception to thisis for persistent bannersi.e. encrypted service
etc and for servicelocked/censorship PIN entry OSDs.
All menus will automaticallybe removed after 30seconds unless
otherwise stated.
The menus usea 256-colour palette.
The menus willcurrently support just English language.
2) VolumeControl
A baris to be displayed when volume is changed bypressing Vol+ or
Vol-. Thebar will disappear aftera predefined time followingthe last
Vol+ or Vol- key press.Automatically removedafter 2 seconds.
7) Digital Information
When viewing a digitalprogram, a single pressof the INFO keywill bring
up the first levelof program information shownbelow. This shows the
time, logical channel number, channel name and'Now' program
information. It also shows the current favourite list that isbeen
used/selected. The informationbanner appears at thebottom of the
screen.
3) Mute Symbol
Pressing the Mute key mutes the sound and a symbol is displayed,
Automatically removed after 2seconds.
4) Screen Freeze
Pressing the Pause key to Freeze the Screen and a pause symbol is
displayed. Press the Pause key again to exit Freezing.
5) Direct Digit Entry
When the user initiates a channel change using the number keys, the
user can press the OK key to force the channel change before all 3
digits have been entered. If all 3 digits are entered then the channel
change will occur.
5 seconds after the last key press, the channel change will be initiated
if all digits have not been entered.
6) TV/Radio Switch
Press TV/Radio buttonon the remote to toggle between TV channels
and Radio stations, then you can change among the TV channels or
Radio stations by pressing CH+/- buttons. This mode can be removed
later if you select a channel by Direct Digit Entry or Service Organiser.
The user can scrollthrough information for other channels in the
currently selected favourites listor the full servicelist if a favouriteslist
is not enabled.This is done usingthe up and downkeys. Whilst
information for other channels is displayed theactual channel being
viewed will not change.The OK keywill jump to thenew channel. Aftera
channel change, the informationbanner will be removedafter 4
seconds. In addition theuser can toggle between'Now' and 'Next'
information using the leftand right keys.To display'Next' information
from the 'Now' banner, the user pressesthe right key.
7.2) Small Next Information
The user can returnfrom 'Next' to 'Now'Information using the left
arrow key.
A secondpress of the INFO key willbring up the extended program
information, and example is shown below.

When the STBis powered up for the first time or is brought out of
standby with noservices, then a welcome screen will be displayed.
This will tell theuser to press theOK key to start a full frequency
service scan.

8) Channel ChangeOSD
This banner willstay persistent when no video can be watched onthe
TV. This banner willalso display the current favourite list enabled. The
following messages will bedisplayed under various circumstances:
Icons are used to notify the user of some information about the displayed
event:
Again, the user will be able to scroll through information for other channels
whilst still watching the current program by using the P+/P- keys. In addition,
the left and right cursor keys will toggle extended info for 'Now' and “Next”.
A third press of the INFO key clears all on screen information.
SUB DVB subtitles areavailable for this event.
TXT AnMHEG application is availablefor this event.
CA Thisevent is encrypted.Even if a CAM module is decrypting the
event.
SUB DVB subtitles areNOT available forthis event.

If none ofthe above are being displayed then if the serviceis audio or

9) Audio
Pressing the audio keywill display the followingmenu. This menu
displays all the audiostreams available on thecurrent service. The
selection is done usingthe up/down keys. Pressingthe OK key
selects the new audio.This selection is onlyvalid until power-down
or service change. Thismenu will be automatically removed after 5
seconds.
Audio menu Subtitle menu
This is the graphicseen after using P+/P-or when a directdigit entry
channel change iscompleted. It times out after 4 seconds If P+/P-is
used then thenew service will be the next/previous service in the
currently selected favouriteslist. If no favourites list is selected/enabled
then the full servicelist will be used.Direct digit entry willtune to a
service using itsLCN. This maynot be in a favourite list. This OSD will be
semi-transparent and will automaticallytimeout after 3 seconds.

The graphic is displayed in the center of the screen.
This will be automatically removed when the MHEG application acquires
the display or will timeout after 60 seconds if the MHEG application fails
to launch.

10) Subtitle
Pressing the subtitlekey will display the following menu. This menu
displays all thesubtitle streams available on the current service and a
subtitle off option.The selection isdone using the up/downkeys.
Pressing the OKkey selects the new subtitle language. This selection
is only valid untilpower-down or service change. Enhanced subtitle
streams are indicatedby an ICON.This menu will beautomatically
removed after 5 seconds.
11) Data ServiceLoading
If the Teletext key is pressedon a service thatcontains an MHEG data
application and data serviceshave been enabled inthe languages
menu, then before theapplication has been fullyloaded, this display
will be presented.
12) TV Guide
Pressing the EPG keydisplays the following guidemenu. The guide
contains all the channelsin the service listrather than just thefavourites
list. This allowsthe user to viewthe now and nextevent information for
every service as wellas the extended informationfor a selected event.
Also a video/audio previewis given which showsthe program that is
currently being watched ifthe user selects the'INFO’ button thepreview
will change to showthe user what iscurrently been shown ona
selected/highlighted service.
An icon willbe displayed if the service has been added or removed by
the broadcaster.
This menu isfull screen.

13) Main Menu
The Main Menu containsthe following options.
1. Service Organiser
Accessed from themain menu, the service list contains the details of
the services thathave been added into the system. The list can be
scrolled through using upand down. Theselected channel appears
with a whiteborder. Channels can be tuned by using the 'OK' key.
Channels can bedeleted with the 'Red' button(however, a full-scan
will delete and re-addchannels), the user willbe asked for thePIN
number each timethey delete a channel. The 'Green'button is used
to allow servicere-ordering. The 'Yellow' will allow the user toedit
the service name.
Service Organiser PIN requested fordeletion
The UHF columnshowing the frequency channel that the service is on.

3.1) Enter Details
When the OKkey is pressed, the following menu is displayed:

This menu isarrived by selecting the timer programming option in the
main menu.
Note: The DVR optionis not available with this model.

2.2) Name Editor
This name editor menu isused for allowing the user to renamea favourite
group. The character selection is done by moving the highlight around a
character matrix and using OK to choosethe character. The new name is
displayed at the top of the menu. 'CAPS' is used to toggle the letters
between upper-case and lower-case and 'Delete' is used to
backspace/delete the last character. When complete the 'Green' key
saves the new name and exits the menu. The 'Yellow' key will cancel the
current edit and return to previous menu with no name change.
2. Favourites
(1).Select main menu.
(2).Scroll to favourites.
(3).Press green button tocreate favourite list.
(4).Press yellow to showedit list.
(5).Sroll up/down to selectchannel.
(6).Press OK to addto list.
(7).Repeat process to addfurther channels.

2.1) Favourites Edit
Accessed from the favouritesmenu. The orderof the Favourite list
determines the orderthe programs appear when the user surfs up and
down the channelswith the P+/P- keys. The fullservice list and the
favourite list can bescrolled through using upand down. Thetwo lists
are selected by usingthe left/right keys. The selected channelappears
with a whiteborder. Thefavourite list canbe re-ordered using the
'Green' key.The favourite listname can bechanged by pressingthe
'Yellow' keywhich will bring up the editmenu.
To re-ordera favourite service theuser must select therequired service
using the up/down keyand then use thegreen key to enterre-order mode.
When the green re-orderis selected the userwill be presented with
another help:

The options are:
CN Three digit channelnumber.
Date Start date in DD/MM/YYYYformat.
Time Start time in HH:MMformat.
Duration Duration in HH:MM format.
DVR Set to Yes if to saveevent to internal harddrive if DVR
option enabled.
Repeat Event repeat mode. Options are No, Weekly, Daily, Mon-
Fri and Mon-Sat.
Subtitles This Options areYes touse the current subtitlelanguage
mode as set inthe “languages”menu. No will turnoff
subtitles during the timed event if enabledin the “languages”
menu.
When the user presses'OK’, the entered itemsare validated. If
an error is detecteda message is displayedsuch as:
Error message that canoccur:
ERROR -Time overlapswith another entry
ERROR -Invalid service
ERROR -Invalid date
ERROR - Invalid time
ERROR - Invalid duration
ERROR - Current time not available
If the PINis not entered before a timeout,or it is cancelled, then the
event will NOTbe added and the display will return to the enter details
menu.
If the censorship level has been set above no-block then the TV will
ask the user to enter the PIN number to remove viewing restrictions
with the following menu:
3.2) Viewing Restrictions
When the user presses 'OK’ andthe items are validated successfully,
the TV willcheck if censorship is enabled or thechannel is parentally
locked.
If the service is parentally locked, the TV willask the user to enter the
PIN number to remove viewing restrictions with the following menu:

The restricted program added in the timer list
If the PIN isnot entered before atimeout or it isskipped then the event
will still be addedand viewing restrictions willapply to the event
depending on its censorshiplevel. This is because the censorship
value of the eventis not known atthe time of enteringthe timed event.
Timer entries thathave had a valid PIN enteredare displayed withan
icon at theend of the line.
4. Setup Menu
This menu options allowthe user toset up the system.
Setup Menu Languages Menu
4.1) Languages
This menu allows theuser to set-up defaultlanguages for subtitles,
data services and audio.The values are usedon power up. Inaddition,
the 'Data Services' and'Audio' values are usedon channel change.
The subtitle value isalso used on achannel change, but onlyif it hasn't
been over-ridden by thesubtitle key.
The options are:
Subtitles Selects the default text language to be used for DVB subtitles.
The options are OFF, English, Welsh and Gaelic.
Data Services Selects the default text language to be sued for MHEG
data services. The options are OFF, English, Welsh and
Gaelic.
Audio Selects the default audio language to be used on power-up
and service change. The options are English, Welsh and Gaelic.
OSD Selects the default text language to be used in the menus and
off-air service information. This options just English currently.
4.2) TV Setup
The TV menuwill have the followingoptions:

System benefit frombeing supplied with a default PIN and a master
PIN. The masterPIN is intendedto be usedto over-ride the user
supplied PIN ifit is lost or forgotten.
4.3.3) Parental Control Menu
Entering a valid PIN gives access to a sub menu that provides options
to change the PIN, Lock and Unlock services or adjust Censorship.
The Censorship optionallows the user to select a blocking age on
service programs.
The options are:

Block
Total block.Will block all serviceevents.
Age rating 18. Willblock service events withage rating 18+.
Age rating 15. Willblock service events withage rating 15+.
Age rating 12. Willblock service events withage rating 12+.

OFF No block. Will notblock any service events.

When “Change PIN”or “Lock/Unlock Services”is selected thenthe
help will changeto the following:
4.3.4) Censorship
The Television has aglobal censorship rating,which is setto the
Censorship block levelin the above menu at power-up. If the usertries
to watch aprogram that has a broadcast rating above the globalrating,
the user mustraise the global censorship rating of the TV tomatch the
broadcast program.
The following OSDis displayed when a censored program is
encountered:

The limit israised to that of the broadcast program until theTV is put
into standby.If the PINis not entered then this OSD will be displayed
at all normalviewing times. i.e. After leaving the menus thisdisplay
will return.
TV Setup Menu
The options are:
Television type Selects the type of tube that the set-top-box is
connected to. The options are 4:3 and 16:9.
Widescreen This option is only available when 4:3 is selected in
the shape option. It is used to select what the user
requires to be displayed for 16:9 transmissions.
The options are Letterbox, Center Cutout and Full
Frame.
Standard This option sets the SCART output mode.
The options are CVBS, RGB.
4.3) Parental control
The default Parentalcontrol PIN is “0000”.
4.3.1) Viewing aLocked Cannel
Selecting a channelthat is locked results in the following OSD being
displayed:
Entering a valid PINwill give access tothe required service. Lockingis
on a per-channel basis,so if the userswitches to another locked
channel they will haveto re-enter the PINto view it.The channel will
remain unlocked until power-down.If the PIN isnot entered then this

4.3.2) Parental Locking viaMenu Selection

4.3.5) Parental Locking ChangePIN
Selecting the option tochange the PIN takesthe user to afurther sub
menu that handles theconfirmation and storing ofthe new PIN.
The menu prompts fora new PIN.The select option allowsthe user to edit
the numbers being entered.As each numberis entered, the “-”in the
display is replaced bya “-”. Pressing the OKkey causes the confirmation
input line to behighlighted and the processto be repeated. Ifthe entered
numbers are not identical,“Numbers no identical”is displayed in thegray
area.
4.3.6) Parental Control Lock/Unlock Services
Selecting the Lock/Unlock Servicesoption gives access tothe service
locking menu ad shownbelow. Theprogram list is displayedand the user
can scroll through it,using the up anddown keys. The 'Select' key is used
to lock and unlockaccess.
The 'LOCK' Icon indicatesthat the channel islocked.

4.4) Service Setup
4.4.1) Full Scan Add New Services
When the 'Full Scan Add New Services' option is selected, the end of the
service list is displayed. When new services are found , they are displayed
at the end of theexisting list in a highlighted yellow colour. During the scan
a progress bar is displayed and a message giving the estimated time
remaining to complete the scan.
Full ScanAdd New Services
When the scan is complete the progress bar will show 100% and a message
stating how many new services have been found is displayed.

4.4.2) Full ScanReplace Existing Services
When 'Full ScanReplace Existing Services' option is selected, the
same as the'Full Scan Add New Services' menu is displayed except
that the existingservices in the system are deleted before the scan
starts.

4.4.3) Manual Scan
This menu allowsthe user to manually tune in services.This menu
will have differentparameters.
Editable options are:
Channel Sets the required UHF channel. This will automatically
fill in the frequency entry.
Frequency Overrides and set the frequency in kHZ.
Tx Mode Selects the required transmission mode. The options are
2K and 8K.
Guard Interval Selects the required guard interval. The options are 1/4,
1/8, 1/16, and 1/32.
Scan Starts or stops a service scan.
Information:
Modulation The modulation type of the locked stream. The values can
be QPSK, QAM16 or QAM64.
FEC The FEC rate of the locked stream. Thevalues can be 1/2,
2/3, 3/4, 5/6 or 7/8.
Network ID The network id of the locked stream.
Transport ID The transport id of the locked stream.
Services Found Number of services found on the locked stream after
a scan.
Services Added Number of services added to the system after a scan.
If some of the services found are already stored then
they will not be re-added.

Signal Level Bar indicator to show the current signal level.
This bar will have 3 colours to distinguish how good the
signal is: RED=Bad, YELLOW=Medium and GREEN=Good.
Text also displayed to state if the FE(Front-End) is locked.
Quality Bar indicator to show the current bit-error-ratio and text
displaying the quality. This bar also have 3 colours
indicating:
GREEN No front end errors.
YELLOW Errors detected but corrected.
RED Un-correctable errors.
Before a scan is started or when a scan is started and waiting for SI
information the in formation parameters will be filled with “----” (dashes) .
When changing theconnection settings, theFE connection settings
will be changed andthe bars updated toshow the current FE
information.
Tostart a service scan the SCAN option must beselected and
toggled to “Started”. The usermust then wait forthe service
information to befound and displayed.
While waiting forthe service information and the services to be
added the following willbe displayed in thepreview windows:
PLEASE WAIT…
After the scanhas completed the scan option will automatically
toggle back to“Stopped”.
The quarter screenpreview will show the first service from the new
services that havebeen added, along with the service name and
provider name ofthe previewing service.
The user can thenskip through the foundservices by using theP+
and P- keys.
If no newservices are added then the preview window will stay
blanked and noservice or provider name will be displayed. The
following will be displayedin the preview windows:

4.4.4) Full Scan Setup
When the “Full Scan Setup”option is selected, and option list will be
displayed allowing the user to modify what parameters will be used
during the full scanprocedure. Depending on theplatform Front-End

4.4.5) First TimeSetup
This menu used todelete all channels andsetting to the first time
installation, include Language,TV set, Service, ParentalControl set,
and then showthe First time welcome screen.
The default settingswill be for the UK DTT network which is 'Yes' for
2K TX modeand 1/32 guardinterval.

4.5) Check ForDownload
The option allowsthe user to update the software.

4.5.1) Update by USB
This menu forthe SW upgrading by a special SCART to USBadapter.
4.5.2) Update by OAD(Over Air Download)
(1)Notification
This menu is displayed when a new over air download is detected after
power-up. This allows the user to select whether to start the download
now or download later by adding the event to the timer programming table.
If the event cannot be added, then an error message will be displayed.
The user can refuse the download at this time by pressing exit (however,
the download may be re-detected and indicated at next power-up).
If a downloadis not available when manually checking for a download
or the downloadbecomes not available while the above menu is being
shown, then thefollowing menu will be displayed.
Some downloads maybe signaled as high priority which means the
manufacturer of thereceiver wants the user to perform the download.
In this casethe download will automatically start when detected or
after leaving standby.
Download Available No Download
(2) Progress
During the download progressa message will bedisplayed which
details to theuser any message that the manufacturer requires this
message is broadcastas part of the download and isn't hard-coded
into the interface.The message maydescribe new featuresof the
download or acontact number in case of download failure. A
progress bar anda time remaining countdown is displayed during
the download.
If the downloadfails the following error message will be displayed.
Downloading Download Fail
If the televisionuses one FLASH chip, the new images is download
into another memoryspace and then written to FLASH when the new
images has beenverified.
During this periodthe user must not turn offthe receiver and the
following message isdisplayed. While this message is displayed the
television will not respondto any key presses.
Don't Switch Offthe Receiver Download Completed
(3) Download messageafter restart
When the receiverrestarts after a download, the following menu will
be displayed. Thiscan contain eithera success orfailure message
and any otherinformation about the new software.
4.6) Technical Information
The Technical Information screen displaysthe hardware version
number and software version numbers.The software version numbers
depend on what modules arebuilt into the software.
4.7)Antenna Setup
This menu allows the user to enable or disablethe antenna power for
an external active whichrequires 5V power supply.
The message "Antenna Overload"will be displayed and the5V power
will be disabled automaticallyif it is short circuit to ground.
