Introduction
A concurrent dual band wireless router upgraded to the latest 802.11ac standard technology, DIR-2680 brings you the future
of high-bandwidth wireless connectivity, vastly increasing the speed and coverage of your network. Not only can you enjoy
streaming HD video and lightning-fast downloads on multiple devices, you can do so without sacricing privacy and safety.
The D-Fend smart home network protection gives your home network an extra layer of powerful protection. Voice assistant
compatibility for Amazon Alexa is integrated so you can control your network with voice commands. The DIR-2680 is the ideal
networking solution for the ever expanding smart home network that combines a Wi-Fi router with smart home protection,
parental controls and anti-virus.
Kick security up a notch with D-Fend security protection for your network. Keep your kids safe online with age-based proles
and the ability to pause the internet when you need to. All this is part of the comprehensive parental controls oered by
D-Fend. With D-Fend you can also take control of your devices and be the rst to know and respond to potentially threatening
activity on your network, such as devices trying to connect to malicious addresses, or unidentied devices joining your
network. When you are away from home, you can also deny any new devices from connecting to your network. D-Fend also
works with Amazon Alexa to give you a new way to command and monitor your home network – your voice. You can scan your
network, block devices, and get up to speed on your network notications all without lifting a nger.
The DIR-2680 upgrades your network to dual-band high-speed wireless technology to bring you lightning-fast Wi-Fi speeds
of up to 2533 Mbps (800 Mbps at 2.4 GHz & 1733 Mbps at 5 GHz)1so you can meet the increasing demand from multimedia
applications. Enjoy seamless high denition streaming media, Internet phone calls, online gaming, and content rich
web surng throughout your home or oce, even over wireless. In addition, 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet ports give you solid,
dependable wired performance for devices such as Network Attached Storage (NAS), media centers, and gaming consoles. The
built-in Quality of Service (QoS) engine allows you to prioritize important trac to ensure that your favorite applications are
receiving optimal bandwidth.

Before you Begin
• Placement of the router is very important. Do not place the router in an enclosed area such as a closet, cabinet,
attic, or garage.
• Congure the router with the computer that was last connected directly to your Internet connection. Verify that it
is connected to the Internet before connecting additional devices.
• If your ISP provided you with a modem/router combo, you will need to set it to“bridge”mode so the router can
work properly. Please contact your ISP or refer to the user manual for your modem/router device.
• You can only use the Ethernet port on your modem. If you were using the USB connection before using the router,
then you must turn o your modem, disconnect the USB cable and connect an Ethernet cable to the Internet
port on the router, and then turn the modem back on. In some cases, you may need to call your Internet Service
Provider (ISP) to change connection types (USB to Ethernet).
• If connecting to a DSL modem, make sure to have your DSL service information provided by your Internet Service
Provider handy. This information is likely to include your DSL account's username and password. Your ISP may also
supply you with additional WAN conguration settings which may be necessary to establish a connection.
• If you are connecting a considerable amount of networking equipment, it may be a good idea to take the time to
label each cable or take a picture of your existing setup before making any changes.
This section will walk you through the installation of the DIR-2680.

Wireless Installation Considerations
The D-Link wireless router lets you access your network using a wireless connection from virtually anywhere within the
operating range of your wireless network. Keep in mind that the number, thickness and location of walls, ceilings, or other
objects that the wireless signals must pass through may limit the range. Typical ranges vary depending on the types of
materials and background RF (radio frequency) noise in your home or business. The key to maximizing wireless range is to
follow these basic guidelines:
1. Keep the number of walls and ceilings between the D-Link router and other network devices to a minimum -
each wall or ceiling can reduce your adapter’s range from 3-90 feet (1-30 meters). Position your devices so that
the number of walls or ceilings is minimized.
2. Be aware of the direct line between network devices. A wall that is 1.5 feet thick (0.5 meters), at a 45-degree
angle appears to be almost 3 feet (1 meter) thick. At a 2-degree angle it looks over 42 feet (14 meters) thick!
Position devices so that the signal will travel straight through a wall or ceiling (instead of at an angle) for better
reception.
3. Building materials make a dierence. A solid metal door or aluminum studs may have a negative eect on
range. Try to position access points, wireless routers, and computers so that the signal passes through drywall or
open doorways. Materials and objects such as glass, steel, metal, walls with insulation, water (sh tanks), mirrors,
le cabinets, brick, and concrete will degrade your wireless signal.
4. Keep your product away (at least 3-6 feet or 1-2 meters) from electrical devices or appliances that generate RF
noise.
5. If you are using 2.4 GHz cordless phones or X-10 (wireless products such as ceiling fans, lights, and home
security systems), your wireless connection may degrade dramatically or drop completely. Make sure your
2.4 GHz phone base is as far away from your wireless devices as possible. The base transmits a signal even if the
phone is not in use.

2. Position your DIR-2680 near your Internet-connected modem. Place it in an open area for better wireless coverage.
1. The DIR-2680 is designed to give you the fastest, most stable network connection possible. Keep the router in an open
area for better wireless coverage.
3. Turn o and unplug the power and Ethernet cable to your cable or DSL broadband modem. This is required. In some
cases, you may need to turn it o for up to ve minutes.

5. Turn on or plug your modem back in and wait approximately one minute before proceeding onward.
6. Connect the supplied power adapter to the router and a power outlet, press the power button, and wait approximately
one minute until the LED indicator on the front of the device changes from orange to solid white.

4. Use the included Ethernet cable to connect your modem to the port labeled INTERNET on the router.

If you are conguring the DIR-2680 from a PC with a wired Ethernet connection, plug one end of an Ethernet cable
into the port labeled 1 on the back of the router, and the other end into your computer's Ethernet port.

7. If you are conguring the DIR-2680 wirelessly from a PC, connect to the Wi-Fi network printed on the included Quick
Installation Card. You can also nd the Wi-Fi network names and passwords printed on the label attached to the bottom
your router.

8. If you are connecting to a broadband service that uses a dynamic connection (not PPPoE), you may be online already.
Try opening a web browser and connecting to a website. If the website does not load, proceed to Completing Setup
on page 12.
Note: We strongly suggest you use the D-Link Wi-Fi App with the given QR code
on the QIC for setup in order to gain full functionality of D-Fend and the DIR-2680.

Completing Setup
There are several dierent ways you can congure your router to connect to the Internet and connect to your clients:
• D-Link Wi-Fi App - Use your compatible Android or iOS device to congure your router.
Refer to D-Link Wi-Fi App on page 13.
• D-Link Setup Wizard - This wizard will launch when you log in to the router for the rst time.
Refer to Setup Wizard on page 17.
• Manual Setup - Log in to and manually congure your router.
Refer to Conguration on page 22.

D-Link Wi-Fi App
The D-Link Wi-Fi App allows you to install and congure your DIR-2680 D-Fend AC2600 Wi-Fi Router from your compatible
mobile device.
Note: The screenshots may be dierent depending on your mobile device’s OS version. The following steps show the iOS interface
of the D-Link Wi-Fi app. If you are using an Android device, the appearance may be dierent from that of the screenshots, but the
process is the same.
Step 1
Search for the free D-Link Wi-Fi App on the App Store or Google Play and
install. You can also scan the QR code on the right, which will take you to the
respective D-Link Wi-Fi app store page.
Step 2
Launch the D-Link Wi-Fi App from the home screen of your device.
Step 3
Tap on the Install New Device button at the middle of the screen (or tap the
Menu button on the top left corner of the app to do the same).

Step 5
Slide the product options to Router and select DIR-2680 from the list of
available devices. Tap Next to continue.
Step 6
You will now be guided through a step-by-step process for setting up your
device. Simply follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation
and DIR-2680 conguration process.
Step 4
Tap Yes if you have the setup QR code with you to scan the QR code and
proceed to step 5. If not, click No and proceed to step 6.

and manage your device, please register your device with D-Link Cloud
Service.
