1.3.2 Installation site
Provide sufficientspacearound the unit for
servicingandair circulation.
Make suretheinstallationsitewithstands theunit's
weightandvibration.
Make surethearea is well ventilated. Do NOT
blockany ventilation openings.
Make sure the unit is level.
Do NOT install the unitin the following places:
In potentiallyexplosiveatmospheres.
In places wherethereis machinerythat emits
electromagneticwaves.Electromagneticwaves
maydisturbthecontrol system,andcause
malfunctionofthe equipment.
In places wherethereis a riskoffire dueto the
leakage of flammablegases (example:thinneror
gasoline),carbonfibre,ignitable dust.
In places wherecorrosive gas (example:
sulphurousacidgas)is produced.Corrosionof
copperpipes orsolderedparts maycause the
refrigerantto leak.
1.3.3 Refrigerant

WARNING
Duringtests,NEVER pressurize the product with
a pressurehigherthanthe maximum allowable
pressure (as indicatedon thenameplateofthe
unit).

WARNING
Take sufficientprecautions in caseofrefrigerant
leakage.If refrigerantgas leaks,ventilatethe
areaimmediately.Possiblerisks:
 Excessive refrigerant concentrations in a
closed room can lead to oxygen deficiency.
Toxic gas maybe producedif refrigerant
gas comes intocontactwith fire.
DANGER: RISK OF EXPLOSION
Pump down –Refrigerant leakage.If you want
to pumpdown the system,andthere is a
leakageinthe refrigerantcircuit:
Do NOT usethe unit's automaticpump
down function, withwhich you can collectall
refrigerantfrom the system intothe outdoor
unit. Possible consequence: Self-
combustionand explosionofthe
compressorbecauseofairgoingintothe
operatingcompressor.
Use a separaterecoverysystem so that the
unit's compressordoesNOThave to
operate.
WARNING
Always recover the refrigerant.Do NOT release
them directlyinto the environment.Use a
vacuum pumpto evacuate the installation.
NOTICE
To avoid compressorbreakdown,doNOT
charge more thanthe specified amountof
refrigerant.
When the refrigerantsystem is tobe
opened, refrigerantmustbetreated
accordingto the applicablelegislation.
WARNING
Make sure there is no oxygen in the system.
Refrigerant may only be charged after performing
the leak test and the vacuum drying.
In case re-charge is required,refer to the
nameplateofthe unit. It states the type of
refrigerantandnecessaryamount.
The unit is factory charged with refrigerant and
dependingonpipesizes and pipelengths some
systems requireadditionalcharging ofrefrigerant.
Only usetools exclusivelyfor the refrigeranttype
usedinthe system,this to ensurepressure
resistance andpreventforeignmaterials from
enteringintothe system.
Chargethe liquidrefrigerantas follows:

1.3.5 Electrical
DANGER: RISK OF ELECTROCUTION
Turn OFF all powersupplybefore
removing the switchbox cover,
connectingelectrical wiringortouching
electricalparts.
Disconnectthepowersupplyfor more
than 1 minute,andmeasurethevoltage
at the terminals ofmaincircuitcapacitors
or electricalcomponentsbeforeservicing.
The voltage MUST be less than50V DC
before you can touchelectrical
components.Forthe locationof the
terminals,seethewiringdiagram.
Do NOT touch electricalcomponents with
wet hands.
Do NOT leave the unitunattendedwhen
the servicecover is removed.

When installingtheearthleakageprotector,
makesureit is compatible withtheinverter
(resistanttohighfrequencyelectric noise)to
avoid unnecessaryopeningofthe earth
leakageprotector.
NOTICE
Precautions whenlayingpowerwiring:
 Do not connect wiring of different thicknesses
to the power terminal block (slack in the power
wiring may cause abnormal heat).
When connectingwiringwhich is the same
thickness,do as showninthe figure below.
For wiring,usethe designatedpowerwire
andconnect firmly, then secure to prevent
outsidepressurebeingexertedonthe
terminalboard.
Useanappropriatescrewdriverfor
tighteningtheterminalscrews.
A screwdriverwith a smallheadwill
damagethehead andmake proper
tighteningimpossible.
Over-tighteningthe terminalscrews may
breakthem.
Installpowercables atleast1 metreawayfrom
televisions orradios topreventinterference.Depending
on the radiowaves,a distanceof 1 metre maynotbe
sufficient.
WARNING
After finishing theelectrical work,confirm
that each electrical componentandterminal
insidetheelectricalcomponentsboxis
connectedsecurely.
Make sure all covers are closed before
startingupthe unit.

2 Introduction
This installationandmaintenance manualis tobe
considered an integral partof the presentheatpump
(hereafterreferred to as equipment).
The manual mustbekept for future referenceuntil the
heat pumpitselfhas been dismantled.This manualis
intendedfor boththe specialised installer (installers –
maintenancetechnicians)as wellas the enduser.
The installation modestobe compliedwithinorder to
achieve a correct andsafeoperationofthe equipment
as wellas methods ofuseandmaintenanceare
describedinthis manual.
In case of the sale of the equipmentorthe change of
owner,the manualmustaccompanytheequipmentto
its new destination.
Before installing and/orusingthe equipment,readthis
instructionmanual carefullyand, in particular,chapter 5
relatingto safety.
The manual mustbekept togetherwith the equipment
and, in any case,it mustalways be at the disposal of
the qualifiedpersonnel inchargeofinstallationand

2.4 Operating principle
The equipmentbelongingtothe 1.9 kW and 2.9 kW
series is capable ofproducingdomestic hotwater
mainlyby usingheatpumptechnology.A heatpump is
capable of transferringthermalenergyfrom a low
temperaturesourcetoanotherwith a higher
temperature and vice versa (heat exchangers).
The equipmentusesa water circuit consisting ofa
compressor,anevaporator,a condenseranda
lamination valve; a liquid/gas coolantflows insidethis
circuit (seeparagraph4.6).
The compressorcreates adifferenceinpressureinside
the circuit that allows a thermodynamiccycle to be
obtained:this sucks thecoolantfluid in throughan
evaporator, wherethe fluid itself evaporates at a low
pressure byabsorbingheat,it is compressed and
driven towards the condenserwhere the fluid
condensesata highpressurereleasingthe absorbed
heat. After the condenser,thefluidpassesthroughthe
so-called “laminationvalve”andby losingpressureand
the temperature starts to vaporise,it re-enters the
evaporator andthe cycle starts all over again.

The operatingprincipleofthe equipmentis as follows
(Fig. 1):
I-II: The coolantfluid suckedinby the compressorflows
inside the evaporatorand while it evaporates,it absorbs
the “ecological” heat given by the air.
At the sametime,theambientairis suckedin by the
equipmentbya fan; the airloses itheat by passingover
the finned-tubebatteryof the evaporator;
II-III: The coolantgas passes inside the compressor
andit undergoes anincreaseinpressurethatcauses a
riseintemperature;transforming this intosuperheated
steam;
III-IV: Insidethecondenser,thecoolantgas releasesits
heat to the water insidethe tank (boiler).This exchange
process makesitpossibleforthecoolantto pass from
superheatedsteamtoaliquid stateby condensingata
constantpressureandundergoing a reductionin
temperature;
IV-I: The liquidcoolantpasses throughthelamination
valve, it undergoes asudden dropinbothpressureand
temperature andit partiallyvaporises bringingpressure
and temperature backto the initial conditions.The
thermodynamiccyclecan begin.
2.5 Available versions and
configurations
The heat pumpis available,in relationto the thermal
power(1.9 kW version),which can be setup in different
configurations,depending on the possibleintegrations
with otherheatingsources (e.g.solarthermal,biomass
power,etc.).

3 Handling and transport
The equipmentis supplied inacardboard box(*). It is
fastenedto a palletwiththree screws.
Usea fork-lifttruck or a pallettruck inorder to unload
the equipment:itis opportunefor theseto have a load
capacityof at least250Kg.
In order to make it
easiertoloosenthe
fixing screws the
packagedequipment
maybe put ina
horizontalpositiononits
back side.
The unpacking
operations mustbe
carried out carefullyso
as not to damage the
equipmentenclosureif
this is carriedout with
knives or cutters to
open the cardboard
packaging.
After havingremoved
the packaging,makesure thatthe unitis intact. If in
doubt, do not usethe equipmentandseekhelp from
authorised technicalstaff.
In conformitywith environmental protection regulations,
makesurethat all the accessoriessuppliedhave been
removedbeforediscardingthepackaging.
WARNING!
Packaging items (staples,cardboardboxed,etc.)
mustnotbe left withinthe reach ofchildren as
they are dangerous.

For the entire periodinwhich the equipmentremains
idle,waiting to be used,it is opportuneto protect it from

Positions permittedfortransporting andhandling:
WARNING!
During the product handling and installation stages,
it is forbidden to put the upper part of the device
under any kind of stress whatsoever due to the fact
that it is not of a structural nature.
WARNING!
The equipm ent can be transported horizontally
only during the last km according to what indicated
abov e (see “Positio ns permit t ed for transporting
and handling ”) and taking care of posit ionin g som e
supports on the lower side of the boiler in order
not to lean against the upper part, which is not of a
structural nature. When the equipment is
transported horizontally, the display must be
oriented toward the upper side.

6.1 Preparation of the
installation site
The installation ofthe device mustbe carried out ina
suitableplaceinorderto allowthe normal useand
adjustmentoperations,togetherwithordinaryand
extraordinarymaintenancetobe performed.
Therefore it is importanttoallowfor the necessary
workingspacebyreferringto the dimensions shownin
Fig. 2.

Moreover, the premisesmust:
Have adequatewaterand powersupplylines;
Be availableandreadyfor connectionto the
condensedrain;
Be availableandreadywith adequate discharge
pipes in caseof damagecaused to theboileror
actuationof the safety valve or breakageof
pipes/connections;
Have containmentsystemsincaseofserious
water leaks;
Be sufficientlylit (whereappropriate);
Not measure less than 20 m3;
Be frost-proofanddry.
WARNING!
In order to avoid the propagationofmechanical
vibrations,do not installthe equipmenton floor
slabs with woodenbeams (e.g.in lofts).
6.2 Ventilation connection
Apart from the spaceindicatedinparagraph 6.1,the
heat pump requires adequate ventilation.
It is necessarytocreate a dedicatedairduct as
indicatedinthe followingillustration(Fig.3).

Moreover, it is importanttoensure anadequate
ventilationof the premises wherethe equipmentis tobe
installed.
An alternative solutionis indicatedinthefollowing
illustration(Fig.4 andFig. 5): this consists ofa second
duct that draws air in from outsideinsteadofdirectly
from inside the premises.

This is adequatelyprotected so as to avoid the
accidentalintrusionofmaterial insidethe
equipmentitself;
It doesn’t exceed the maximum suggested length
of 6 meters (with2 elbowjunctions 90°).
The maximum total allowablepressure dropforall
components,includingthrough holesfor mounting
on external wall,withinthe pipesystem does not
exceed 120Pa.
During operation,the heat pump tends to lower
the ambienttemperatureifthe external airduct is
not carried out.
An appropriateprotectiongridmustbeinstalledin
line with the dischargepipe conveying airto the
outside with the aim of avoiding foreign bodies
from enteringthe equipment.Inorder to
guaranteemaximum deviceperformance,the grid
chosenmustensurelowpressure loss.
In order to avoid the formationofcondensate:
insulate theairdischargepipes andthe airduct
cover connections withsteam-tightthermal
claddingofan adequatethickness.
If it is considerednecessaryinorder to prevent
flow noise,soundmufflerscanbemounted.
Fit the pipes,thewallthroughholes andthe
connections tothe heatpumpwith vibration
dampingsystems.
WARNING!
The simultaneousoperationofan open-flue
firebox(e.g. anopen-fluefireplace)togetherwith
the heat pump causesadangerous
environmental pressure drop.This couldcause
the backflowof exhaust gas into the
environmentitself.
Do not operatethe heatpump togetherwith
an open-flue firebox.
Useonlysealed-chamberfireboxes (approved)
with a separateductfor combustionair.
Keepthe doors to the boilerroom closed and
hermeticallysealediftheydo not have a
combustionairsupplyincommonwith
inhabited areas.
6.2.1 Particular installation
conditions
One of the peculiarities ofthe heatpump heating
system is represented bythe fact thattheseunits cause
a considerablereductionofthe airtemperature that is
generallyejected from insidethehome.Apart from
beingcolderthanthe ambientair, the exhaustair is also
completelydehumidified;forthis reason,it is possible to
allowthe airto flowback into the homeinorderto cool
specificenvironments orroomsduringthesummer.
Installationconsistsofthe splittingofthe dischargepipe
to whichtwo shutters areapplied(“A” and”B”) with the
aim of directingthe airflow either towards the inside
(Fig. 5a) or the outside ofthe home (Fig. 5b).

It is compulsoryto install a dirt filter on the cold
water inletpipe.The equipmentshouldnotwork
with waterhardness lowerthan 12°F;on the
contrary, when the water hardness is particularly
high(higher than 25°F), it is recommended touse
a water softener,properlycalibrated and
monitored;inthis casethe residualhardness
shouldnotfall below15°F.
PLEASE NOTE!
It is advisableforthe system installertoinstall a 7-
bar safetyvalve on the coldwater intake pipe (Fig.

6.4.1 Condense drain connections
Condensate thatforms duringtheoperation ofthe heat
pump flows throughanappropriatedischargepipe
(G 1/2”) that passesinside cladding and itcomes outon
the side of the equipment.
This mustbe connectedto a duct via a siphonsothat
the condensate can flow freely (Fig. 9a or Fig. 9b).

6.6 Electrical connections
The device is suppliedalreadywired forthe mains
powersupply.It is poweredthrough a flexible cableand
a socket/plug combination (Fig.11and Fig. 12). An
earthedSchukosocketwith separateprotectionis
neededfor the connection to the mains powersupply.
WARNING!
The powersupplyto whichthe equipmentwillbe
connectedmustbeprotectedby an adequate
residualcurrentcircuitbreaker.
The type of residualcurrentcircuitbreakermustbe
chosenbyevaluating the type of electric
equipmenttobeusedonthe entiresystem.
With referenceto the connectionto the mains
powersupplyandthe safety equipment(e.g.
residualcurrentcircuitbreaker)complywith
standardIEC60364-4-41.

6.6.1 Remote links
The equipmentis designedtobe connectedto other
remote energysystems (photovoltaicandsolar thermal
powersystems).
The userinterface has two digitalinputs withthe
followingfunctions:
Digital 1: Input from the solarthermalpower
system.Whena free contact is established
betweenterminals 30and31(cable:brown/yellow)
andthe water temperature measured bylower
probe is higherthanSP8, the heat pump stops and
water is heatedupby the solarpanels;the heat
pumpstarts againwhenthecontact is released
andtimeset by C13is passedorimmediatelyif
the lowerprobetemperatureis lowerthanSP8.
Digital 2: Input from photovoltaicsystem.
When a free contact is establishedbetween
terminals 31and32(cable:green/white)andthe
heat pumpreaches the SP5temperature (default
setting62°C),the hot water nominaltemperatureis
raisedby7°C. It is possibletochangetheSP6
parameter (e.g.: raising the temperature from 62°C
to 70°C) so that, if thereis enough PV electrical
energy, the heat dropfrom 62°Cto 70°Cis made
by the immersion electricheating element(ifSP6
is the sameas SP5,the electricheatingelement
will never activate).
6.6.1.1 Remote linkmode
As regards links todigitalinputs,the equipmentis
providedwith an additional 4-corecablethathas
alreadybeen linkedto circuitboard of the userinterface
(placedinsidethe equipmentFig.14). The remote links
to any energysystems mustbe carriedout by a
qualifiedinstaller(junctionboxes,terminalsand
connectioncables).

To access the 4-core cablefor remoteconnectionitis
