MicroTech® III Unit Controller
TheMicroTechIIIUnitControllerincludesbuilt-in
featuressuchasrandomstart,compressortimedelay,
shutdown,condensateoverowprotection,defrostcycle,
brownout,andLED/faultoutputs.RefertoTable10on
page14.
Theunithasbeendesignedforoperationwitha
microelectronicwallthermostatselectedbythe
manufacturer.Donotoperatetheunitwithanyother
typeofwallthermostat.
Eachunithasaprintedcircuitboardcontrolsystem.The
lowvoltageoutputfromthelowvoltageterminalstrip
isACvoltagetothewallthermostat.RisA/Cvoltage
outputtothewallstat.
The24voltlowvoltageterminalstripissetupsoR-G
energizesthefan,R-Y1energizesthecompressorfor
coolingoperation,R-W1energizesthecompressorand
reversingvalveforheatingoperation.Thereversingvalve
isenergizedintheheatingmode.Thecircuitboardhas
afaninterlockcircuittoenergizethefanwheneverthe
compressorisonifthethermostatlogicfailstodoso.
TheoutputtothewallstatisACcurrent.Terminal(R)on
thewallstatcanbeconnectedtoterminal(R)onthePC
boardforACvoltage.

TheMicroTechIIIunitcontrollerhasalockoutcircuit
tostopcompressoroperationifanyoneofitssafety
switchesopens(highpressureswitchandlowpressure
switchonunitsizes024through060).Ifcompressorlow
suctiontemperatureisdetected,theunitwillgointothe
coolingmodefor60secondstodefrostanyslushinthe
water-to-refrigerantheatexchanger.Ifthecondensate
sensordetectsalleddrainpan,thecompressor
operationwillbesuspendedonlyinthecoolingmode.
Theunitisresetbyopeningandclosingthedisconnect
switchonthemainpowersupplytotheunitintheevent
theunitcompressoroperationhasbeensuspendeddue
tolowtemperature(freezestat)switch,highpressure
switch,orlowpressureswitchonunitsizes048thru
060.Theunitdoesnothavetoberesetonacondensate
overowdetection.
TheMicroTechIIIunitcontrollerfaultoutputsendsa
signaltoanLEDonawallthermostat.Table9onpage
13showsforwhichfunctionsthefaultoutputis“on”
(sendingasignaltotheLED),whenthe“A”terminalis
conguredbyJP4beingopen.
Remote Reset of Automatic Lockouts
TheRemoteResetfeatureprovidesthemeansto
remotelyresetsomelockoutsgeneratedbyhigh-pressure
and/orlow-temperaturefaults.WhentheMicroTechIIIunit
controllerislockedoutduetooneofthesefaults,andthe
causeofthefaultconditionhasbeencleared,energizing
theO-terminalfor11secondsormoreforcesthe
MicroTechIIIunitcontrollertoclearthelockout.Cycling
unitpoweralsoclearsalockoutiftheconditionscausing
thefaulthavebeenalleviated.
TheIntelligentAlarmResetfeaturehelpstominimize
nuisancetripsofautomaticresetlockoutscausedbylow
temperaturefaults.Thisfeatureclearsfaultsthersttwo
timestheyoccurwithina24-hourperiodandtriggers
anautomaticlockoutonthe3rdfault.Theretrycountis
resettozeroevery24hours.
TheMicroTechIIIunitcontrollerhasbuilt-innight
setbackoperation.A“grounded’signaltothe“U”
terminalonTB3oftheunitcontrolputstheunitinto
theunoccupiedmodefornightsetbackoperation.Fan
operationterminatesandunitcontrolwillonlyrespondto
signalattheW2terminal.Daytimeheatingandcooling
operationislockedout.+24VACtoW2energizesthe
compressorandreversingvalveforheatingoperation.
Nightsetbackoperationcanbeoverriddenfortwo
hoursbyenergizingtheOontheTB2terminalof
theunitcontrolfor4to10seconds.Daythermostat
setpointsthencontroltheheatingandcoolingoperation.
TheMicroTechIIIunitcontrolleralsoaccommodates
shutdownoperationonreceiptofa“grounded”signalto
the“E”input,respectively,onTB3inputterminalofthe
unit control.
TheIV/PR(H8)terminalsoftheMicroTechIIIunit
controllerareusedformotorizedvalve/pumprestart.
Thisterminalpassesavoltagesignalwheneverthe
unitcompressoristurnedon.Thissignalisdetected
byapumprestartrelayprovidingaN.O.orN.C.set
ofcontactsforheatpumploopcirculationpumpor
motorizedvalvecontrol.Whenusedwithasystem
control(byothers),therelayoperationaccommodates
turningoffcirculationpumpsduringunoccupiedperiods
withasafetyoverridedependent,atminimum,on
WSHP’sneed.TheIV/PR(H8)terminalsmaybe“daisy
chained”between200units.
