I. BEFOREYOUINSTALL
Beforeyouinstallyoursoftwarethereareafewthingsyoushoulddotoprepare.Doingsowillhelptoavoidany
troubleyoucouldencounterduetoout‐of‐datedriversorsecurityupdates.Pleasetakeafewmomentstoperform
thefollowing:
A. Makesureyouhaveatleasttheminimumhardwarerequirements.
DesktoporLaptopwithavailableUSB2.0portorgreater.
WindowsOS,XP,Vista,Windows7,8or10.
1GBraminstalled.
HDDspaceofatleast10MB.
CPU2GHzorbettermayworkonslowercomputerbutyoumayneedtoselectalowerresolutioncamera
imageforbestresults.
CDdriveforinstall.
B. RunWindowsupdateorMicrosoftupdate(dependingonyourversionofWindows)andallowthecomputerto
updateallupdatesavailable.
C. IfyouarerunninganyAnti‐Virussoftwareyoumaywanttotemporarilysuspendthesoftwareduring
installation.
D. Ifyouarepromptedto"Allowaprogram”throughyourfirewallduringinstalloronfirststart‐upofthesoftware,
youwillneedtoclick"Yes"or"Allow"butmayalsoneedtomanuallyaddanexceptiontoruntheprogramand
allofitsfeatures;however,thisisarareoccurrence.
II. NETWORKREQUIREMENTS

D. ISPmayormaynotallowstreaming;thisisoutofDakotaMicro’scontrol.
E. Configurablerouter(settingsarethecustomersresponsibility,andourtechnicalsupportisnotabletoassist
withrouterportforwardingorothersettingsofany3rdpartyequipment).
III. SOFTWAREINSTALLATIONINSTRUCTIONS
IMPORTANT:LeavetheSimpleSighthardwareUNPLUGGEDfromtheUSBduringinstallation.ONLYplugthehardware
intoyourcomputerAFTERtheSimpleSightsoftwarehasrunforthefirsttime.Afterthisinitialinstallationyoumayplug
andunplugatwillwithnoissues.
A. InsertCDintocomputer.Thediskissetuptoautomaticallyexecutesoftwareinstallation.Ifauto‐runisnot
enabledonyourcomputer,open‘MyComputer’anddoubleclicktheCDdrivewiththeSimpleSight(SS)
softwaredisk.Nextdoubleclickonthe.exefiletobegintheauto‐runsoftwareinstallationprogram.
B. IstheSimpleSighthardwareunpluggedfromtheUSBport?Ifnot,unplugitnow!

ContinuetoleaveUSBDeviceunplugged!
E. OncethesoftwareissuccessfullyinstalledaSimple
Sightsoftwareiconwillappearonthedesktop.
Doubleclickthisiconandruntheprogramforthe
firsttime.
Waitforabout10secondsandlettheprogram
checkforupdates.Ifthereareupdatesavailable
theprogramwillpromptyoutoinstallthem;let
theprogramupdatetothelatestversion.During
theupdateproceduretheprogramwillcloseand,
uponcompletion,willpromptyoutore‐openthe
program.
F. Whenthesoftwarefirstopen,youwillseea
screensimilartotheimagetotherightthatshould
includethestatement“DeviceUnavailable”.NOW
yougettopluginyourSimpleSight!
Whenthedeviceispluggedinforthefirsttime,
Windowswillidentifythedeviceandassignthe
drivertoit;pleasebepatientasthiswilltakea
moment.
G. Assoonasthedevicedriverisinstalledandready,
thenextscreenwillappear.Thisscreenmeans
you'resetupandreadytorun.
Now,it'stimetogetyourhardwareallhookedup.
Camerasorwirelessreceiverswillgettheirpower
throughtheSShardwareusingtheincludedAC
adapter.Simplypluginthecameras,receiversor
extensioncablestotheDMcameraportsandyou
shouldautomatically,andalmostimmediately,see
apicture.

IV. SOFTWAREMENUOPTIONS
A. Togglecamera
Clickingthisiconwillswitchbetweenthecameradisplayedandtheonethatisn't.Thecameranamewill
brieflyappearatthetopofthescreentoidentifyit.Locationofthecameranamecanbechangedinyour
settings.
B. TakeSnapshot
Clickingonthisiconwillinstantlytakeaphotographoftheimageonthescreenandstoreitonyour
computerwiththedefaultlocationbeingthe"MyPictures>SimpleSight"folder.
Eachimagewithinthedatedfolderwillbenamedaccordingtothetimeofdaythesnapshotwastaken;for
example,ifthesnapshotwastakenonJulythe4th,2012at2:23PM,thefoldernamewillbe2012‐07‐04,
andwithinthatfolderwillbeanimagewiththetitle(militarytime)14‐23‐10(the10istheseconds,HH‐MM‐
SS)
Atthemomentyoupressthe"TakeSnapshot"buttontherewillbeaconfirmationonthetopofthescreen
stating"SnapshotSaved"withasmallarrownexttoit.Thiswillstayforafewseconds,soifyouwouldliketo
openthefolderwheretheimagewassaved,youcanclickanywhereinthebarwherethestatementappears
toopenthefolder.ThedefaultimagesavefoldercanbechangedintheSettingsmenu,underImage
Settings.
C. ImageSettings
Clickingonthe“ImageSettings”iconyouwillbegivenslidebarsthatwillallowyoutoadjustthehue,
saturation,brightness,contrastandXXofyourdisplayedcameraimage.Thesesettingsareindividualfor
eachcamera,andthesettingsforeachviewarechangedonlyforthecamerathatisbeingviewed.All
individualsettingswillbesavedwhentheprogramisclosed.
Clickonthe"X"ontherighthandsideistoexittheImageSettingsmode
Clickonthecurledarrowistoreturnallsettingstodefault.
D. FullScreenMode
Clickingthisicontheimagewillfilltheentirescreenwithyourcurrentcameraimage
Ifyouclicktheiconagain(thearrowswillbegroupedandpointingtowardseachother),thescreensizewill
returntoawindowedstate.
Upon‘exit’,theprogramwillreturntoawindowedstate.
E. Settings
Clickingthisiconwillbringyoutoyour“SettingsMenu”.ThismenuwillbediscussedinsectionV.
F. About/Info
Clickthisiconandyouwillgetapop‐uptellingyoutheversionnumberyouareusing.
G. Quit/Close
Clickingthisiconwillquit/closethesoftware.

A. InterfaceTab
Showsystemstrayicon‐Thiswillshow/hidethesystemtrayiconwhenthesoftwareisrunning.Thisis
usefulforthosethatwanttominimizetheprogrambuttolettheprogramcontinuetostream(explained
later).
Startinfullscreenmode‐Thiswillstarttheprograminfullscreenmodewhenyoufirststarttheprogram.
Youcanexitthefullscreenmodeatanytimebyrightclickingonthevideoimagescreenandselect
"WindowedMode"oralternatelywhenthescreeniswindowedyoucanselect"Fullscreenmode"
AlwaysShowcameraname‐Thiswillkeepthecameranameonthetopofthescreeninthestandardview
screen.Thenameofthecamerawillnotbecapturedwiththesnapshotutilityasthelabelisabovethe
imagearea.
Downloadupdatesautomatically‐Keepthisfeaturecheckedifyouwanttoreceiveupdateswhenavailable.
UncheckonlyifyoudoNOTwanttheupdates,andiftheprogramisperfectforyourneeds.
On‐ScreenMenu‐Thisselectionboxhas2options,"ShowMenuButton"and"ShowExpandedMenu".
Whentheselection"ShowMenuButton"isselectedtheprogramwillopenwithamenuIconinthelower
leftsideofthescreen.Whentheselection"ShowExpandedmenu"isselectedthescreenwillshowthe
menuiconsatalltimes.Ifyouwouldliketocustomizeyourmenuitemsthataredisplayed,youcanclickon
the“Customize”button.Anewwindowwillappearthatwillgiveyoutheabilitytodecidewhichiconsare
availabletotheuserinterface.
Toaddorremovemenuitems,simplyhighlighttheunwanteditemfromtheboxofavailableiconsin
thetopboxandclickontheMinus(‐)button,theiconwillberemovedfromthetopbox.
Ifyouwouldliketoaddanadditionaliconselectitfromthedropdownlistontheleftandclickonthe
Plus(+)buttonanditwillappearinthetopbox.
Torearrangetheiconsinthetopboxyousimplyhighlighttheiconyouwanttomoveupordownand
clickontheUPorDownarrowstomoveitonespace.
Morethanoneofthe"Separator"itemscanbeaddedtothelistasshownintheimagetoarrange
thebuttonswithmorespacebetweenthemortoforcethemleftorright
Hidemenuautomatically‐Thiswillmakethelowermenudisappearafterapproximately5secondsof
nouse.Note:HideMenuautomaticallyisnotrecommendedfortouchscreendisplay.
SnapshotsDirectory‐Thisiswhereyoucanchooseanalternatelocationforyoursnapshots;forexample,if
youwantthemtobestoredonaserveryoumaychooseanetworklocationoronaremovabledrive.
ResetDefaults‐Ifyoureallymessup,thisisawaytoreturntotheinstalldefaultsandstartover.

1st(and2nd)CameraName–Thisallowsyoutoenterthenameyouwanttohavedisplayonthetopofthe
screen.Thecameranamewillnotbestoredontheimagesnapshots.
VideoMode‐Thereareseveraloptions.Theseoptionsareintendedtoallowyoutochoosetheproper
resolutionandorientationofyourcameras.Selectlowerresolutionsifyouwantfasterrefresh,especially
whenstreamingthevideoasitwillbesignificantlyfasterandyouwillreceivemoreimagespersecond;or,
usehighermodesifyouaren'tconcernedwithadelayorfluidmotion,butwantclearimagesforsnapshot
use.ForliveviewingonthePCwheretheUSBdeviceisplugged,thereisonlypersonalpreference;
however,youwillwanttochoose29fpsmodesforNTSCcamerasand25fpsforPALmodes.Thelowest
Framerateof14fpsisprimarilyforuseinslowinternetconnectionsintendedtostreamthevideo.
ViewMode‐2Options
Fitinview‐Thisoptionwillkeepthescreensizeoftheviewingareainthesameaspectratioofthe
cameraimagetomaintaintheentireimageonscreenatalltimes.
Scaleandcrop‐Thiswillallowtheimagetofillthescreentoptobottomatalltimesandcropthe
sidesoffifnecessary;itwillnotcutthetopandbottomofthecameraimageoff,onlythesides.
ResetDefaults‐Ifyoureallymessupthisisawaytoreturntotheinstalldefaultsandstartover.
C. WebAccessTab
EnableWebAccess‐thisturnsontheWebAccessServer,allowingforinternetorintranetstreamingon
othercomputers,orevenoff‐siteviatheinternet.
Thedefaultportforthisdeviceis8080,whichshouldbeperfectformostinternalnetwork
viewing.
Totestifyournetworkiscapableofallowingoutsideaccesstothisvideodevice,clickon“Enable
WebAccess”andthenclickthe“Test”button.Atthispointyoumayneedtoallowaccess
throughyourfirewallwhich(unlessyouaresupersecure)youwillonlyneedtotellyour
computerto"Allow"it.Afterafewsecondsyouwilleitherbetransferredtoawebpage
displayingyourcamerasoryouwillseeanerror.Ineithercase,youcanlikelyviewthecameras
onanyothercomputerwithinyourhomenetwork.
**NOTE:Thissectionisnotforthenoviceuser;ifyoudon'tunderstandthissectionyoumaywanttoseekthe
assistanceofsomeonewhoisfamiliarwithyour"router",portforwarding,IPaddressesetc.,DakotaMicrotechnical
supportcannothelpyouwithanysettingsonyourrouter,oranyotherIPsettingsofyourcomputeroranyother
computeronyournetwork.
VI. TIPS
Streamingyourvideowithinyourownnetworkshouldbefairlystraightforward.Mosthomenetworkswillnotbe
restrictedforthisactivityandprovidedthatyouhavesufficientnetworkresources,youshouldhavenoproblems.Before
wegetintothenitty‐grittyofhowthisisaccomplished,let’sfirstdiscusssomeoftheterminologyofahomenetwork,
andhowitallrelatestothestreamingofyourvideo.
Inthechartbelowyouwillseeaverycommonnetworkwithabriefexplanationofhoweachdeviceinteractswiththe
nextandprevious.DakotaMicrocanassistwiththevideostreaminghardwaretogetanimageonyourcomputer
screenwhenit'spluggedin,andpossiblyonanothercomputerwithinyournetwork,buttogetyourvideostreamoutof
yournetworkDakotaMicrowon'tbeabletohelpyou,astherearedevicesthatmaycontrolthatabilitybeyondour
capabilityofassistingyou.
**PleasebeawarethatDakotaMicrotechniciansarenotabletohelpwithroutersettings,computerantivirus
settings,firewallsettingsoranyothernetworkissuethatmayaffectyourabilitytostreamvideotoothercomputers
onoroutsideofyourownhomenetwork.However,havingsaidthat,mostpeoplefindthattherearenoissuesand
thebelowinstructionsshouldhelptobetterunderstandyournetwork,andtheinternet.

ProducestheimageandissentalongthecablestotheSimpleSightHardware.
TheSimpleSightHardware:
AcceptsthecompositesignalfromtheAgCamCameraswhereit'sconvertedintoadigital
signalthatcanbeunderstoodbyyourcomputersUSBport.
TheHomePC:
ThisacceptsthesignalfromtheUSBdeviceandcandisplaytheimagefromthecameraonto
thescreen,alsothisimagecanbeforwardedontothehomenetworkvia"Ethernet"cableto
yourrouter.ThecomputerwillneedtheSimpleSightsoftwareinstalledandconfiguredto
streamthevideoontothenetworkviaaportnumber.Allcomputersonanetworkhavean
"IPaddress"suchas192.168.0.2.Inthesimplesightsoftwareyouwillhavetospecifyaport
tosendthevideoontoyourrouterinyournetwork.
InadditiontoaIPaddressassignedtoyourcomputerthereisoneassignedtoyourinternet
serviceasit'sseenfromtheinternetside,tofindthisoutsimplyvisitthesite
http://whatismyip.comandyourinternetaddresswillshow.
TheHomeRouter:
(thisisthepointwhereDMtechnicalsupportcannotprovideassistanceanylonger,
pleasecontactyourISP,networkingspecialistorareallysmartfriend)
ThisisthepartofyournetworkthatwillrouteinformationfromyourPCtootherPC'son
yournetworkortotheInternetviayourISPandwhateverequipmenttheyprovideifanyto
communicatesuchasaModem.Thisroutermustbeconfiguredtoallowtheportmentioned
abovetoforwardtheinformationfromthatportontotheinternet,thisisdonebyamethod
called"PortForwarding".YoumayneedtoconsultyourInternetserviceproviderorthe
routermanufacturertohelpwiththisifyouaren'tfamiliarwithrouterconfiguration.Most
homedevicessuchasthisarequiteuserfriendlyhoweverDakotaMicroCanNOTassistyou
withthisconfiguration.
YourISPorInternetServiceProvider:
TheISPisaservicecompanythatsellsaccesstoanetworkofcomputerscalledtheInternet.
Thiscompanyisaverylargeversionofwhatthehomerouterisandcanblockorallowaccess
inasimilarway.SomeISP'shavebeenknowntoblockcertainportsoreventhrottle
bandwidthtocertaincustomers.YoushouldcheckwithyourISPtomakesuretheyallowfor
yourservicetoactasa"Server"forvideofeedandinquireifanyportnumbersareblocked.
WithouttheISPcooperationthereisnowaytoeverconfigureyourSimpleSightforoffline
viewing.
TheInternet:
TheinternetisamassivenetworkofcomputersincludingISP's,serverlocations,companies,
homesandanyothercomputerwhichcanhostinformationofanykindontothisnetwork.
Alongthewayyourinformation(videostream)maypassthroughdozensorhundredsof
othercomputersorISP'stogettothecomputeryouwanttoaccessitfrom.Thisissimply
howitworksandwhileitalmostalwaysworkswithoutflawitcanattimesbeanissueinboth
speedandoverallaccessibility.
TheRemoteLocation:
Whereveryouneedtoseeyourcamerasfromispossiblethroughastandardwebbrowser,
youwillbeabletoswitchthecamerasandviewthemfromthisremotelocation.We
recommendthatyouuseFirefoxBrowserforthemostconveniencebutyoucanalsouse
InternetExplorerifyouinstalltheGoogleChromeFrameplug‐in,yourbrowser
Inordertoaccessthevideofeedfromyouroffsitelocationyouwillneedtouseyourinternet
addressasdescribedaboveplustheportnumberasshowninthisexample.

Onceyouhit"Enter"or"Go",youshouldconnecttothecomputerusingtheSShardwareandbedirectedtotheport
servingthevideofeed,asimilarlookingwindowwillpopuptointerfacewiththeSS.Differentbrowserswillrequire
differentmethodsofviewingthecamerafeed:
InternetExplorer:Theleastfriendlyofthebrowserswillpromptyoutoinstallthe"GoogleChromeFrame",whichisvery
smallandloadsveryfast.Thiswillonlyberequiredthefirsttimeyouaccessthecamerasifit'snotalreadyinstalled.
Firefox:Veryfriendlyandwillinstantlydisplayyourvideo.
GoogleChrome:Veryfriendlyandwillinstantlydisplayyourvideo.
Therearemanyotherbrowsersthatmayormaynotwork,butthevideofeedhasbeentestedonthesebecausetheyare
themostcommonlyused.TherecommendedmethodforbestresultsistodownloadtheFirefoxbrowser.
Usingthetool:
WithintheSSprogramthereisatooltohelpyouaccessyourvideofeed;ifyouhavenotsetupyourroutertoallow
accesstotheSSvideofeedfroman"offsitelocation",youwillgetawarningmessage.Thiswarningindicatesthatthe
programcannotaccesstheexternaladdressforyourvideostream;thisisnormalandwillnotworkuntilyousetyour
routerto"Forward”,whichwillforwardthevideofeedoutsideofyournetwork.However,ifyouclickOKonthiswarning
boxitwillalmostimmediatelyopenyourdefaultbrowser,whichwilllikelyshowyourvideofeed.Moreimportantly,in
theaddressbaryouwillhavetheexactaddresswhichyouwillusetoaccessthevideofeedfromothercomputers.If
youdon'tgetthevideofeed,itislikelythatyourcomputerdoesnothave“FileSharing”enabled.Foryourspecific
operatingsystemyoumaywanttodoaninternetsearchfor"Enablefileandprintersharing";thiswillprovidesomevery
comprehensiveinstructions.HerearesomebasicinstructionswhichwillbehelpfultomostrunningWindows7orVista.

thenclickApply. Ifyouarepromptedforanadministratorpasswordorconfirmation,typethepasswordor

EnduraCamcamerasaredesignedforhighimpact,moisture,vibrationandavarietyofotherroughconditions.
OverViewcamerasandkitcomponentsaredesignedforlightuse,lowvibrationandlowmoisture.OverView
equipmentisnotwarrantedwhenusedinsituationsoutsideoftheabovementionedparameters.Wealwaysrequest
thatcustomerskeepinmindthatourlessexpensiveOverViewproductlineischeaperbecauseitdoesnotfeaturethe
reliabilityanddurabilityofourAgCamandEnduraCamlines.Thewarrantyavailableontheseproductsreflectthat
durability.
Toavoidelectricalshockandmaintainoptimalfunctionality,donotopentheenclosures.Highvoltagemaybepresent
andtherearenouserserviceablepartsinside.Allwarrantieswillbevoidshouldanyenclosuresbetamperedwithin
anyway.
Donotuseanyharshchemicalsolvents,cleaningagentsorcorrosivedetergenttocleanawaydirtonthesurfaceofthe

OnAgCamandEnduraCamproducts,thephoto‐chromiccameralenseshavebeenmadeimpact‐resistantandhave

chemically,theyshownostresspattern.Inspectyourlensesfrequently.Chippedorscratchedsurfaceswillreduce

Powertocamerasisnotinterruptedbyturningoffmonitor;12vpowersourcemustbeterminatedwhennotinuseto

AgCam®/EnduraCam®monitors,andWirelesscomponents;TwelveMonths(12)forallOverviewCameras&Monitors,cablesandallother
accessories.
TheDakotaMicrolimitedwarrantyperiodsoutlinedaboveapplythroughouttheUnitedStatesandCanadaonly.Aone(1)yearmaximumlimited
warrantyforallProductsappliestoallothergeographiclocationsunlessotherwisestatedinwritingbyDakotaMicro.
ThislimitedwarrantydoesnotapplytoanyissuesconnectedwithappearancethathavenorelationtotheperformanceoftheProductnortoany
Producttheexteriorofwhichhasbeendamagedordefaced,whichhasbeensubjectedtoimpropervoltageorothermisuse,abnormalserviceor
handling,orwhichhasbeenalteredormodifiedindesignorconstruction.
Inordertoenforcetherightsunderthislimitedwarranty,thepurchasershouldfollowthestepssetforthinthecompleteDakotaMicro“Warranty
