thenclickApply. Ifyouarepromptedforanadministratorpasswordorconfirmation,typethepasswordor
provideconfirmation.
3. Iffilesharingisoff,clickthearrowbutton toexpandthesection,clickTurnonfilesharing,andthenclick
Apply. Ifyouarepromptedforanadministratorpasswordorconfirmation,typethepasswordorprovide
confirmation.
4. IfPublicfoldersharingisoffandyouwanttosharefilesbyplacingtheminthePublicfolderonyourcomputer,
clickthearrowbutton toexpandthesection,clickTurnonsharingsoanyonewithnetworkaccesscanopen
filesorTurnonsharingsoanyonewithnetworkaccesscanopen,change,andcreatefiles,andthenclickApply.
Ifyouarepromptedforanadministratorpasswordorconfirmation,typethepasswordorprovide
confirmation.
5. Ifprintersharingisoff,andyouhaveaprinteryouwanttoshare,clickthearrowbutton toexpandthe
section,clickTurnonprintersharing,andthenclickApply. Ifyouarepromptedforanadministrator
passwordorconfirmation,typethepasswordorprovideconfirmation.
6. Finally,sharethefileorprinterbydoingoneofthefollowing:

Right‐clickthefileorfolderyouwanttoshare,clickShare,clickthearrow,selectthepeopleyouwantto
sharewith,andthenclickShare.Formoreinformation,seeSharefileswithsomeone.

CopythefilesorfoldersyouwanttosharetothePublicfolderonyourcomputer.TofindthePublic
folder,clicktheStartbutton ,andthenclickDocuments.IntheNavigationpane,underFavoriteLinks,
clickPublic.Formoreinformation,seeSharingfileswiththePublicfolder.

Toshareaprinter,seeShareaprinter.
Ifyou'restillhavingtroublesharingfilesoraprinteronanetwork,makesureWindowsFirewallisnotblockingFileand
PrinterSharing.Here'show:
1. OpenWindowsFirewallbyclickingtheStartbutton ,clickingControlPanel,clickingSecurity,andthenclicking
WindowsFirewall.
2. ClickAllowaprogramthroughWindowsFirewall. Ifyouarepromptedforanadministratorpasswordor
confirmation,typethepasswordorprovideconfirmation.
3. IntheProgramorportlist,makesuretheFileandPrinterSharingcheckboxisselected,andthenclickOK.
Gettingoutsideofyourhomenetwork:
Thissectionwillverybrieflydiscusswhatyouwillneedtodoinordertoaccessyourcamerasfromoutsideofthehome
network.Toclarify,asperthenetworkingchartdisplayedearlierinthisdocument,we'retalkingaboutaccessingthe
devicelocated"inside"ofyourhomenetwork,andwewillbeaccessingthisdevicefromsomewhere"outside"ofyour
network;forinstanceaneighbor'shouse,lakehouseorhotel.
Usingthe"Tool"mentionedintheprevioussection,youwillalmostcertainlyknowwhenyou'reabletoaccessthe
camerasfrom"outside"ofthenetwork.Ifthetoolgivesyoutheerrormessage,"Unabletodetermineexternalnetwork
address,"somethingisnotsetupcorrectlywithinyourrouter,oritispossiblethatyourISPmayhaveblockedthePort
youenteredforStreaming.
Ifyoustillrequireassistanceatthispointwemustencourageyoutocontactsomeonewhoisfamiliarwithyourrouter
andhelptoconfigureit.DakotaMicrocan'tassistyouwiththissetting.Thereareliterallythousandsofpossible
hardwareoptionsandwecan'tbefamiliarwiththemall,butmostimportantlytherouterorfirewallisyour
protectionfromhackersandvirusesfromtheoutsideworldandourtechnicalsupportstaffisforbiddentomakeany
changestoyourfirewalloranyotherdevicewhichmayaffectanyprotectionyoumayormaynothave.Thankyoufor
