Introduction
This is a user guide for the home ventilation units HCV 4/ HCV 5 from Dantherm A/S.
The table of contents below provides an overview of the sections contained in the man-
ual.

Warning
The power supply must not be connected before the duct system is mounted.
The valve unit must not be used to dry out newly constructed houses, either during or
immediately after construction.
The ducts must be sealed, and the unit must not be conne
cted to them until the house
is move
-in ready, that is, clean and dried out. This is to prevent building dust and con-
densed water from accumulating in the duct system and ventilation unit, which may
present a risk of hygiene problems later on.
A failure t
o comply with these requirements will result in the cancellation of the guaran-
tee on the unit, and any subsequent type of required service will be carried out at the
customer's expense.

Introduction
This section provides a description of the unit.
Use of the HCV
The HCV unit is used to ventilate private homes.
The unit supplies fresh, heated outside air through the unit to the home.
Contaminated and hot exhaust air is used to heat the outside air through heat recovery.

Air flow
The following describes and illustrates the air flow in an HCV 4:

Description

Outside air (T1)
Outside air that enters the heat exchanger, ready to be
heated by the exhaust air from the house (

).

Fresh air intake (T2)
Fresh air is heated through the recovery of heat from the
exhaust air (

).

Exhaust air (T3)
Hot and "contaminated" exhaust air is used to heat the
outside air () through heat recovery over the heat ex-
changer.

Exhaust air (T4)
The heat is extracted from the exhaust air to heat up the
cool outdoor air (). The exhaust air is led out of the
house.

Function description
Important
The ventilation system must always be running!
With the exception of the four hours during which the unit can be stopped from the
control panel, stopping the unit is not recommended. Stopping the unit for longer peri-
ods of time may
result in the condensation of fresh air in the pipe installations and ven-
tilation unit, which carries a risk of water damage
in the building's construction, damage
to the unit, and hygiene problems.
Stopping the ventilation, even for l
onger holiday periods, is therefore not recom-
mended. If necessary, turn the unit down to fan step 2 or 1 in manual operation instead.
Function
The unit blows fresh outside air into the house.
Contaminated and humid air is sucked out of th
e kitchen, living room, bathrooms, etc.,
and then led through the unit, which uses the heat from the old air to heat the fresh
outside air, before the latter is blown into the house.
Control panel
The control panel is used to set the unit's functions.
The control panel is described in greater detail on page
Automatic demand
control
When the unit is running in automatic demand control mode, the volume of air used is
regulated depending on how humid the air inside the house is. This is measured by a
humidity sensor, which is located
in the ventilation unit's exhaust duct.
•At a humidity level higher than 45% RH, the unit will run continuously at fan step 3.
•At a humidity level lower than 45% RH, the unit will make a slow downward adjust-
ment. If the humidity is very low over a longer period of time, the unit will
finally run
at fan step 1.
The set point for the automatic demand control can be adjusted using the wireless re-
mote control.
Automatic demand control is always recommended because it ensures the air change is
carried out as needed, while preventing the hou
se from becoming excessively dry for
inhabitants, particularly during winter months.

Manual operation
If a different volume of air is desired than what the unit provides automatically through
its automatic demand control, the user can manually select from fan steps 0
-4. See the
following examples:

On the control panel the unit can be set to four different speeds,
fan step 1-4.
0
The unit is shut off. Should only be used in the event of unpleas-
ant outside odours.
If the fans are shut off for more than four hours, a risk of con-
densation arises in the ducts and unit, which may result in mois-
ture damage.
(all four lights for the fan step are off).
Note that fan step 0 will only remain active for a period of 4
hours, after which the unit will return to fan step 3.

Can be used overnight or while away from home, (e.g. while away
on holiday).
When the house is empty, the ventilation can be temporarily re-
duced.

Used for normal ventilation needs.
Can also be used while away from home, if fan step 1 does not
provide sufficient air change

For example: for cooking, bath, drying large quantities of
clothes, guests and excess heat

Used as needed for greater levels of air change, such as during
and directly after a party, when the house requires ventilation.
Note that fan step 4 is only active for four hours, after which the
unit will again run at fan step 3.

Function description, continued
Manual bypass
The purpose of the bypass function is to cool the home by allowing cool outside air
directly into the home without heat recovery.
During normal operation (when manual bypass is
not activated), the unit cools by
using the automatic bypass control when outdoor and indoor temperatures allow,
which is why, in most cases,
manual bypass is not necessary.
For homes with large, south
-facing glass facades that tend to generate more heat,
it may be necessary to activate the manual bypass early in the spring and fall, when
the automatic bypass function will not otherwise activate a cool
-down with outside
air because the outdoor temperature is below 15°C.
In manual bypass, the unit delivers cool
outdoor air to the home for six hours. In-
formation on set points for manual and automatic bypass is available in the instal-
lation guide.

Filters
The purpose of the filters is to remove dust and other contaminants before they are
blown into the house, and to protect the heat exchanger and fans from the accu-
mulation of dust and dirt that come from the home.
The unit is delivered as standard with G4 filters for both supply and exhaust air. An
F7 pollen filter (optional extra) can be connected for the supply air, which is an
even finer filter, for example for individuals who suffer from pollen allergies
. The
filters must be changed regularly; read
more about filter replacement in the “Preven-
tive maintenance” section on page12.

Description of the control panel
Introduction
This section provides a detailed description of the HCP4 control panel.

This illustration shows the control panel, which provides operating information via vari-
ous indicators.
The control panel has three buttons that are easy to activate:

Operating indicator
The operating indicator can display three different
modes:
•Green: on, OK operation
•Yellow blinking and beeping sound: filter needs to
be changed
•Red light, beeping sound: unit error

Bypass
(Only HCV 5)
Upon activation, the button will light up, and the hot,
damp exhaust air will be led around the exchanger in
order to avoid heating the outside air before it is
blown into the house. This allows the coolest possible
air to enter the house without the use of heat recov-
ery.
The manual bypass function remains active for 6
hours, after which the unit reverts to automatic bypass
mode.
In automatic bypass mode, the bypass module auto-
matically opens and closes in accordance with the fac-
tory settings; read more about this in the installation
guide, under the "Set points and control strategy" sec-
tion.

Manual operation
After activating manual operation, it is possible to
change between shutting down the unit and fan step
1-4.
For a more detailed explanation of the four levels,
consult the "Function description” section on page 6

Upon activating the automatic demand control, the
unit will operate based on the humidity of the
home's exhaust air. Automatic demand control al-
ways runs on fan step 1, 2 or 3.


In the event of a unit error, the control will beep
once every hour (this also occurs when it is time to
change the filter)

Operation
Introduction
This section describes how the different functions are activated and operated.
Additional information on the individual functions can be found in the “"
Function de-
scription” section at page 6, or in the "Set points" section in the installation guide.
Power saving
To save power, shut off all lights in the control panel after 2 minutes without operation
(with the exception of the green LED).
Control panel
This is the control panel that comes with each unit. See the descriptions of the buttons
below:
Manual operation
Push this button to activate manual operation.
Fan steps 0
-
4 can be selected by pressing repeatedly. To stop the unit, the button must
be activated until all four level lamps shut off. An operation shutdown ends after a pe-
riod of four hours, after which the unit will run in manual operation, fan step 3.
Fireplace function
Press and hold for 6 seconds, until fan step 3 blinks on the control panel. The unit will
stop the exhaust function and continue to introduce supply air at fan step 3 for 15
minutes.
Maximum ventila-
tion
The fan runs at level 4 for four hours and is particularly useful for ventilation at high in-
door temperatures, such as when a number of people are gathered at the home. After
four hours, the speed returns to the previously used fan step.
Installer operation
Press Manual
+ Auto and hold for 6 seconds, until the fan step 3 lights up. The
unit will then run at fan step 3 for one hour. All other functions will be
overridden dur-
ing this period.
Filter change/
reset
Filter changing and resetting the filter alarm are described in detail in the "Operation”
section on page11.

Preventive maintenance
Introduction
In order for the unit to run reliably, it is necessary to perform preventive maintenance by
changing the filter and cleaning the unit.
Changing the filter
Change the filter when the filter alarm is displayed in the control panel (the LED blinks
yellow) and the acoustic filter alarm
beeps (once an hour).

Replace the filters and dispose of the used fil-
ters in an environmentally responsible manner
(flammable material).
Ensure that the arrows on the filters are facing
downward!
The filter opening must only be used for
filters!

Replace the filter insulation panels so that the hard, smooth side faces out,
and the soft side faces in towards the filters

Reconnect the power supply

Reset the filter alarm by pressing and holding
the button for 2 seconds, and then close the
door again.

Preventive maintenance, continued
Cleaning
Keep the unit clean to ensure reliable operation and proper hygiene.
If the unit is dirty (for example
around the filter openings), it must be cleaned using a
thoroughly wrung
-out cloth dipped in lukewarm water and, if necessary, detergent.
Important: Chemical solvents must not be used!
Guarantee condi-
tions
The factory guarantee is only valid with documented preventive maintenance. Mainte-
nance must have been carried out at intervals of a minimum of six months. The docu-
mentation must be in the form of a written log/journal.
Consult the "Preventive maintenance" section in the installation and service guide to see
what type of preventive service must be performed.

ative humidity of outside air.
If this is the case, set the unit
to manual operation and select
the fan step that fits your par-
ticular needs (normally fan step
3). However, running the unit
with a volume of air that is
constantly at the level required
by national law is not advised
as this leads to a risk of mois-
ture damage and reduced air
quality.
The home is exces-
sively dried out.
The unit is perhaps operating
with excess air change in rela-
tion to the size and purpose of
the home/building.
Set the unit to automatic oper-
ation, or set it to fan step 2 or
1 in manual operation.
fan step 2 or 1 is recom-
mended for limited periods of
time only.
Remember that it takes a few
days to raise the humidity level
in the home if it is very dry.
If this doesn't help, contact
your installer to adjust the vol-
ume of air.
There is moisture
on the inside of
window panes and
other cold surfaces
(autumn, winter,
spring).
The air exchange is not enough
or the distribution is insuffi-
cient, which means that critical
rooms do not receive enough
air.
Set the unit to automatic de-
mand control so that it can au-
tomatically keep humidity and
moisture at a
n acceptable level.
Do not allow the unit to run
continuously at fan step 1 or 2
while in manual mode, as there
is no guarantee that it will be
able to keep humidity down
sufficiently when the home is
experiencing periods of excess
humidity.
