1. Introduction

Intended Use
This device is intended for professional use as an amplifier with a media player. It is suitable only for indoor
installation.
Any other use, not mentioned under intended use, is regarded as non-intended and incorrect use.

2. Safety

DANGER
Danger for children
For adult use only. The device must be installed beyond the reach of children.
●Do not leave various parts of the packaging (plastic bags, polystyrene foam, nails, etc.) within
children’s reach. Packaging material is a potential source of danger for children.

Electric shock caused by short-circuit
This device falls under IEC protection class I.
●Make sure that the device is electrically connected to ground (earth). Connect the device only to a
socket-outlet with ground (earth) connection.
●Do not cover the ground (earth) connection.
●Do not let the power cable come into contact with other cables. Handle the power cable and all
connections with the mains with caution.
●Do not modify, bend, mechanically strain, put pressure on, pull or heat up the power cable.
●Make sure that the power cable is not crimped or damaged. Examine the power cable periodically
for any defects.
●Do not immerse the device in water or other liquids. Do not install the device in a location where
flooding may occur.
●Do not use the device during thunderstorms. Disconnect the device from the electrical power supply
immediately.

Electric shock caused by dangerous voltage inside
There are areas within the device where dangerous touch voltage may be present.
●Do not open the device or remove any covers.
●Do not operate the device if the covers are open.
●Disconnect the device from electrical power supply before service and maintenance, and when the
device is not in use.

Power supply
●Before connecting the device to the power supply, make sure that the current, voltage and
frequency match the input voltage, current and frequency specified on the information label on the
device.
●Make sure that the cross-sectional area of the extension cords and power cables is sufficient for the
required power consumption of the device.
Attention
General safety
●Do not block the ventilation openings. Without proper heat dissipation and air circulation, the
internal components may overheat. This can result in product damage.
●Do not shake the device. Avoid brute force when installing or operating the device.
●If the device is dropped or struck, disconnect the device from the electrical power supply
immediately.
●If the device is exposed to extreme temperature variations (e.g. after transportation), do not switch it
on immediately. Let the device reach room temperature before switching it on, otherwise it may be
damaged by the formed condensation.
●If the device fails to work properly, discontinue the use immediately.

This device shall be used only for the purposes it is designed for.
This device is designed to be used as an amplifier with a media player. Any incorrect use may lead to
hazardous situations and result in injuries and material damage.
This device does not contain user-serviceable parts. Unauthorized modifications to the device will render
the warranty void. Such modifications may result in injuries and material damage.
Attention
Do not expose the device to conditions that exceed the rated IP class conditions.
This device is IP20 rated. IP (Ingress Protection) 20 class provides protection against solid objects greater
than 12 mm, such as fingers, and no protection against harmful ingress of water.

Requirements for the User
This product may be used by ordinary persons. Maintenance and installation may be carried by ordinary
persons. Service shall be carried out only by instructed or skilled persons. Contact your Highlite
International dealer for more information.
Instructed persons have been instructed and trained by a skilled person, or are supervised by a skilled
person, for specific tasks and work activities associated with the service of this product, so that they can
identify risks and take precautions to avoid them.
Skilled persons have training or experience, which enables them to recognize risks and to avoid hazards
associated with the service of this product.
Ordinary persons are all persons other than instructed persons and skilled persons. Ordinary persons
include not only users of the product but also any other persons that may have access to the device or
who may be in the vicinity of the device.

3. Description of the Device
The PA-380TU is a compact 80 W/100 V amplifier with a media player. It supports multiple (wireless) media
sources, such as DAB+ or FM radio. It can be connected to a PC/laptop, smartphone, tablet, CD/DVD
player or a TV. The device can be operated manually or with the supplied IR remote control.

4. Installation and Setup
Warnings and Precautions
Attention
Connect all data cables before supplying power.
Disconnect power supply before connecting or disconnecting data cables.
The PA-380TU can be operated manually or with an infrared (IR) remote control.
Safety Instructions for Installation
Attention
Make sure there is enough space for ventilation around the device.
●Do not block the ventilation openings. Without proper heat dissipation and air circulation, the
internal components may overheat. This can result in product damage.
●Do not install near equipment that produces heat, for example amplifiers.
Installation Site Requirements
●The device must be installed only indoors.
●The device can be placed on a flat surface.
●The maximum ambient temperature ta= 40 °C must never be exceeded.
●The relative humidity must not exceed 50 % with an ambient temperature of 40 °C.

Connecting to Power Supply
DANGER
Electric shock caused by short-circuit
The device accepts AC mains power at 220–240 V and 50 Hz. Do not supply power at any other voltage
or frequency to the device.
This device falls under IEC protection class I. Make sure that the device is always electrically connected
to the ground (earth).
Before connecting the device to the socket-outlet:
●Make sure that the power supply matches the input voltage specified on the information label on
the device.
●Make sure that the socket-outlet has ground (earth) connection.
Connect the device to the socket-outlet with the power plug.
Start-up
To operate the device:
Make sure that the PA-380TU is switched off.
Connect the FM antenna to the (FM) terminal on the FM antenna terminal connector IN (20).
If possible, put the device near a window and unwind the antenna.
Connect input and output devices. See 4.5.1. Setup Example on page 13 and 4.5.2. Connecting
Audio Devices on page 14.
Switch on the input devices (e.g. audio mixer, CD player).
Switch on the PA-380TU. See 4.5.3. Switching On/Off on page 14 for more information.
Set your preferred language and adjust other settings. See 5.5. Settings Menu on pages 22–25 for
more information.
Switch on the speakers.
Select operation modes. See 5.4. Operation Modes on pages 16–22 and 5.13. Remote Control on
pages 26–27 for more information.
Adjust the settings:
●Turn up the volume controls on the device. See 5.8. Setting Master Volume, 5.9. Setting
Microphone Volume, 5.10. Setting Aux 1 Volume and 5.11. Setting Media Player/Aux Volume on
page 25 for more information.
●Set the volume of the device. See 5.12. Setting Device Volume on page 25 for more information.
●Set the characteristics of the amplifier. See 5.6. Setting Bass Level and 5.7. Setting Treble Level on
page 25 for more information.
After use, switch off the speakers.
Switch off the device. See 4.5.3. Switching On/Off on page 14 for more information.

Setup Example
It is allowed to connect conventional or 100 V speakers to the device.
Attention
Speaker Loading
Before connecting the devices to the power supply, make sure that the total load of all connected
speakers is below the maximum rating of the amplifier. If the total load is higher, it may cause damage to
the amplifier and to the speakers.
To determine if your settings are safe:
Add up the wattage settings of all connected speakers.
Compare the value with the maximum rating of the amplifier. If necessary, disconnect speaker(s).
Use the speaker terminal connectors OUT (21) to connect speakers. When connecting:
●conventional speakers, use the (4–16 Ω) terminal and a (COM) terminal.
●100 V speakers, use the (100 V) terminal and a (COM) terminal.

Connecting Audio Devices
Connect audio devices to the audio outputs and inputs.
●The device has the following audio outputs: RCA analog line-level connectors OUT (19) and the
speaker terminal connectors OUT (21).
●The device has the following audio inputs: RCA Aux connectors IN (17) and RCA Aux 1 connectors IN
(18) and 6,3 mm jack microphone connector IN (16).
Note:
To avoid interference, turn the PA-380TU off when connecting devices.
Connect the RCA analog line-level connectors OUT (19) to audio devices such as, an additional
amplifier, a mixer, a console, etc.
Connect the speaker terminal connectors OUT (21) to a conventional (max. 80 W) or a 100 V speaker.
See 4.5.1. Setup Example on page 13 for more information.
Connect the RCA Aux connectors IN (17) and RCA Aux 1 connectors IN (18) to audio devices such as, a
CD player or a tuner.
Connect the 6,3 mm jack microphone connector IN (16) to a dynamic microphone.
Switching On/Off
The device has a power switch.
●Set the power switch (09) to ON position to turn on the device.
●Set the power switch (09) to OFF position to turn off the device.
Upon start-up, the display shows the start screen (Fig. 06). If it is the first start-up, the device will search for
DAB+ radio stations. It happens only once.
Press the MODE button to enter the previously used operation mode (Fig. 07).

Note:
If no button is pressed, after the pre-set amount of time of inactivity, the display will turn off. Press any
button to turn the display on. See 5.5.8.1. Backlight on page 24 for more information.
Stand-by
You can activate stand-by when you are not using the device.
●Press and hold down the MODE button (F) for 2 seconds to activate stand-by. The display shows the
current time and date and the control buttons do not function.
●Press the MODE button (F) to deactivate stand-by. The display will return to the last used operation
mode.

5. Operation

Before connecting the device to the power supply, make sure that the current, voltage and frequency
match the input voltage, current and frequency specified on the information label on the device.
5.2. LED Statuses
There are 3 LED indicators: VU meter (06), protection LED indicator (Red) (07) and power LED indicator
(Blue) (08). The LED indicators have the following functions:
●VU meter: Indicates the level of sound output.
●Protection LED indicator (Red):
●If the light is off, the output is within the normal range.
●If the light is on, the output is too high. Decrease the volume on the device/instrument/audio
mixer.
●Power LED indicator (Blue): If the light is on, the device is powered.

●Use the FORWARD/VOLUME + button to navigate through the main menu, to scroll through the available
options, to stop auto scan, to manually tune the radio, to select radio stations/music files or to increase the
volume.
●Use the STOP button to stop playback, to enter the settings menu, to return to a previous screen or to
browse through radio station information screens.
●Use the PLAY/PAUSE button to start auto scan, to confirm your choices or to enter the submenus.
●Use the REPEAT button to set playback mode and to recall/store presets.
●Use the MODE button to select operation modes or to return to the main menu.
●Use the BACKWARD/VOLUME –button to navigate through the main menu, to scroll through the available
options, to stop auto scan, to manually tune the radio, to select radio stations/music files or to decrease
the volume.

Operation Modes
The device can be operated in the following operation modes:
●FM: See 5.4.1. FM Mode
●DAB+: See 5.4.2. DAB+ Mode
●Bluetooth: See 5.4.3. Bluetooth Mode
●USB: See 5.4.4. USB Mode
●Microphone
For more information about how to connect the devices, refer to 4.5.2. Connecting Audio Devices on
page 14.
To use a dynamic microphone, connect it to the 6,3 mm jack microphone connector IN (16).
FM Mode
In this menu you can search for FM radio stations, browse through them and listen to them. If needed,
you can manually tune the radio stations and save presets. The display shows:
Auto Scan
In this menu you can search for available FM radio stations.
Press and hold down the PLAY/PAUSE button (D) for 2 seconds to start an auto scan. The display shows:
The device scans for all available FM radio stations and automatically saves them as presets. The device
can store up to 30 FM presets. When a scan is complete, the device activates the first (P1) of the saved
presets:

Browsing Through Radio Stations
In this menu you can browse through the saved FM presets.
Press the REPEAT button (E). The display shows:
Press the FORWARD/VOLUME + button (B) and the BACKWARD/VOLUME –button (G) to select one of
the saved FM presets.
Press the PLAY/PAUSE button (D) to confirm. The device will activate the selected FM preset.
Manual Tuning and Saving Presets
If the sound quality of an FM preset is not good enough, you can tune it manually and save changes.
Press the FORWARD/VOLUME + button (B) and the BACKWARD/VOLUME –button (G) to manually tune
the signal, in increments of 0,05 MHz.
Press and hold down the REPEAT button (E) for 2 seconds. The display shows:
Press the FORWARD/VOLUME + button (B) and the BACKWARD/VOLUME –button (G) to select one of
the 30 preset slots.
Press the PLAY/PAUSE button (D) to confirm. The changes are saved and the display shows:
Viewing Radio Station Information
You can view the information about the currently active radio station.
Repeatedly press the STOP button (C) to browse through different information screens, such as time, date,
name of the radio station, music genre, frequency and signal type.
Note:
The contents of each screen depend on the currently active radio station. Some radio stations do not
display any information.

DAB+ Mode
In this menu you can search for DAB+ radio stations, browse through them and listen to them. If needed,
you can save selected radio stations as presets, to be able to access them easily.
The display shows:
Auto Scan
In this menu you can search for available DAB+ radio stations.
Press and hold down the PLAY/PAUSE button (D) for 2 seconds to start an auto scan. The display shows:
The device scans for all available DAB+ radio stations and it shows (in real-time) the number of found
DAB+ radio stations. When a scan is complete, the device activates the first of the found radio stations:
Browsing Through Radio Stations
In this menu you can browse through the found DAB+ radio stations.
Press the FORWARD/VOLUME + button (B) and the BACKWARD/VOLUME –button (G) to select one of
the found DAB+ radio stations. The display shows:
Press the PLAY/PAUSE button (D) to confirm. The device will activate the selected DAB+ radio station.

Saving Presets
If you want to listen to only a few DAB+ radio stations, you can save them as presets, for easy access.
The device can store up to 30 DAB+ presets.
Press the FORWARD/VOLUME + button (B) and the BACKWARD/VOLUME –button (G) to select one of
the found DAB+ radio stations. The display shows:
Press the PLAY/PAUSE button (D) to confirm. The device will activate the selected DAB+ radio station.
Press and hold down the REPEAT button (E) for 2 seconds. The display shows:
Press the FORWARD/VOLUME + button (B) and the BACKWARD/VOLUME –button (G) to select one of
the 30 preset slots.
Press the PLAY/PAUSE button (D) to confirm. The changes are saved and the display shows:
Browsing Through Presets
In this menu you can listen to the previously saved DAB+ presets.
Press the REPEAT button (E). The display shows:
Press the FORWARD/VOLUME + button (B) and the BACKWARD/VOLUME –button (G) to select one of
the saved DAB+ presets.
Press the PLAY/PAUSE button (D) to confirm. The device will activate the selected DAB+ preset.
