Itshouldbeusedonlyfortestingglucose(sugar)andonlywithfresh
capillarywholebloodsamples.Thesystemisintendedforusein
thehomeandinclinicalsettings.Itshouldnotbeusedforthediagnosis
ofdiabetesorforthetestingofnewborns.
CAUTION:
Before using any product to test your blood sugar (blood glucose), read
all instructions and practice the test. Do all quality control checks as
directed and consult with a diabetes healthcare professional. These
recommendations apply to all blood glucose monitoring systems and
are supported by the Diabetes Educator Section of the Canadian
Diabetes Association.

•Severedehydrationandexcessivewaterlossmaycausefalselow
results.Ifyoubelieveyouaresufferingfromseveredehydration,consult
ahealthcareprofessionalimmediately.
•Testresultsbelow60mg/dL(3.3mmol/L)meanlowbloodglucose
(hypoglycemia).Testresultsgreaterthan240mg/dL(13.3mmol/L)mean
highbloodglucose(hyperglycemia).Ifyougetresultsbelow60mg/dLor
above240mg/dL,anddonothavesymptoms,firstrepeatthetest.Ifyou
havesymptomsorcontinuetogetresultsthatfallbelow60mg/dLor
above240mg/dL,followthetreatmentadviceofyourhealthcare
professional.
•Ifyouareexperiencingsymptomsthatarenotconsistentwithyour
bloodglucosetestresultsandyouhavefollowedallinstructions
describedintheProdigyowner'sbooklet,callyourhealthcare
professional.
•A redbloodcellcount(hematocrit)thatisveryhigh(above60%)or
verylow(below20%)cancausefalseresults.
•Elevatedbloodtriglyceride, reducingsubstancessuchasuricacid
andascorbicacidatnormalbloodconcentration,oracetaminophen,
dopa,methyldopa,L-dopa,andtolbutamideatnormalblood
concentrationsdonotsignificantlyaffectthetestresults.
•Thissystemmaybeusedataltitudesupto10,742feet(3275m)
withoutaneffectontestresults.

Check your system to be sure the outer carton seal is not missing or

Prodigycontrolsolutions areusedtocheckthatthemeterandtheteststripsare
workingtogetherasa systemandthatyouareperformingthetestcorrectly.Itis
veryimportantthatyoudothissimplecheckroutinelytomakesureyouget
accurateresults.
Prodigycontrolsolutionscontaina knownamount ofglucosethatreactswith
teststrips.TheLowandHighlevelControlsolutions areintendedtocheckthe
monitoringsystemindifferentmeasurementranges.Compareyourcontrol
solutiontestresultswiththeexpectedrangeprintedontheteststripviallabel.
Controlsolutionshouldbeusedto:
•Practicethetestprocedure
•Makesureyourmeterandteststripsareworkingtogetherproperly
•Ensureyouareperformingthetestcorrectly
Beforeyouusethemetertotestyourbloodforthefirsttime,practice
theprocedureusingcontrolsolution.Whenyoucan dothreetestsin
arowthatarewithintheexpectedrange,youarereadytotestyourblood.

•UseonlyProdigycontrolsolutions.
•Checktheexpirationdateonthecontrolsolutionvial.Donot
useifexpired.
•Controlsolution,meter,andteststripsshouldcometoroom
temperature(68-77°F/ 20-25°C)beforetesting.
•Shakethevial,discard thefirstdropofcontrolsolution,and
wipeoffthedispensertiptoensurea goodsampleandan
accurateresult.
•Useonlyfor90daysafterfirstopening.Recordthediscard
date(dateopenedplus90days)onthecontrolsolutionvial.
Discardafter90days.
•Storethecontrolsolutiontightlyclosedattemperaturesbelow
86°F(30°C).Donotrefrigerate.
CAUTION:
The control solution range printed on the test strip vial is for Prodigy
control solution only. It is used to test meter and test strip performance.
It is not the recommended range foryour blood glucose level.

CAUTION:
Every time you perform a control solution test,
you must enter into the "CTL" test mode so that
the test will not be stored in the meter memory.

STEP2 ApplyControlSolution
Shakethecontrolsolutionvialwell.Remove
thecap.Squeezethevial,discardthefirst
drop,andwipeoffthedispensertiptoensure
anaccurateresult.Squeezethevialagainto
getanotherdropandplacethedroponyour
fingertipfirst.Then,applythedroptothe
absorbentholeoftheteststrip(whereit
meetsthenarrowchannel)untilthedropis
drawnintotheteststrip,theconfirmation
windowisfilled,andthemeterbeginsto
countdown.
CAUTION:
To avoid contaminating the control
solution with the content of the test
strip, you have to place a drop of
control solution on a clean surface
or on your finger tip first. Then
touch the test strip to the drop.

Iftestresultsfalloutsidetherangeprintedontheteststripvial,repeat
thetest.Out-of-rangeresultsmaybecausedbyoneormoreofthe
following:
•Errorinperformingthetest
•Failuretoshakethecontrolsolutionvialvigorously
•Expiredorcontaminatedcontrolsolution
•Controlsolutionthatistoowarmortoocold
•Failuretodiscardthefirstdropofcontrolsolutionandwipethe
dispensertipclean
•Impropercodingofthemeter
•Teststripdeterioration
•Metermalfunction
CAUTION:
Ifyou continue to get control solution test results that fall outside of the
range printed on the vial, the system may not be working properly. Do
not use the system to test your blood ifyou continue to get test results
that fall outside of the range. Ifyou are unable to resolve the problem,
call the Technical Support Line at 1-800-243-2636.
