We recommend this fitting is installed by a qualified Electrician.
IMPORTANT INSTALLATION INFORMATION
• Installationshouldbecarriedoutinaccordancewiththelatesteditionof
theIEEWiringRegulations(BS7671)andtakingintoconsiderationthelatest
BuildingRegulations.Ifindoubt,consultaqualifiedelectrician.
• Before commencing any installation or maintenance work, ensure
electricity is switched off at the mains.
• PleasetakenoteofthemaximumratedvoltageforyourPorchLight.
• PleasetakenoteoftheIP(IngressProtection)ratingofyourPorchLightwhen
decidinglocation.
• AlwaysallowsufficientslackinthesupplycableinordertoremovethePorch
Lightfromitspositionforanyfuturemaintenance.
• Pleasetakenoteofthenearestilluminatedsurfaceasshownonthelabel.
GENERAL INSTALLATION - SAFETY
•Pleasemakesureyouaresafewhenworkingatheight.
• Employthelatestsafetyregulationsandprocedurestoensurethesafe
installationofthisPorchLight.
• WhenpositioningyourPorchLightoutofdoorspleasetakenotethat
outdoorelectricalinstallationsshouldbeinstalledbyaqualifiedElectrician.
Correctcircuitprotectionforallexteriorelectricalservicesshouldincludea
residualcurrentdevice(RCD),alsoknownasanearthleakagecircuitbreaker
(ELCB).Thissimpledeviceensuresthatthepoweriscutoffimmediately;it
detectsaleakageofcurrenttoearth,indicatinganelectricalfaultwhichis
potentiallythreateningtolife.Observethesefewsimplerulesandkeepyour
outdoorelectricalinstallationsafe.
INTRODUCTION
ThisPorchLightincorporateshaseitheraDusktoDawnphotocellorPIR
(PassiveInfrared)withlightsensorcontroloptionfitted.
Dusk to Dawn Version
TheDusktoDawnphotocellversionturnsonwhenitstartstogodarkinthe
eveningandswitchesoffwhenitgetslighterinthemorning.Itwillnotdetect
movementbutwillcontinuallyilluminatepathways,steps,patios,porchesetc,
orwhereverconstantsecurityilluminationisrequired.Thebasicinstallation
procedureisexactlythesameasthePIRversionbutthePIRhassomesiting
rulestobeobservedandcontrolstoset.
PIR Version
ThePIRversioncontinuouslyscansapresetoperatingzoneorareaand
immediatelyswitchesthelamponautomaticallywhenmovementisdetected,
whennomovementisdetectedthelampswitchesoff.Ifmovementisconstant
withintherangeofthePIRthelampwillstayon.
ThePIRoptionmakesitidealforpathways,steps,patios,porchesetcwhere
securityorconvenientlightingisrequired.

ToachievethebestresultsfromyourPorchLightwesuggestyoutakeinto
accountthefollowingpointsbeforeyoufittheunit.
•Dotnotfixtoasurfacewherevibrationispossibleormayoccur.
• IdeallythePorchLightshouldbemounted1.8to2.5metres(6to8feet)
abovetheareatobescanned(seeFig.1).
• Toavoiddamagetotheunit,donotaimthePIRsensortowardstheSun.
•ToavoidnuisancetriggeringofthePIR,thesensorshouldbedirectedaway
fromheatsources,suchasbarbecues,air-conditioners,otheroutsidelighting,
movingcarsandfluevents.Alsokeepawayfromstrongelectromagnetic
disturbances.
• DonotaimthePIRtowardsreflectivesurfaces,suchas,smoothwhitewalls,
swimmingpoolsetc.ThePIRsensorscanningspecifications(approximately
12metresatapproximately110°-Horizontal,seeFig2)mayvaryslightly,
dependingonthemountingheightandlocation.Thedetectionrangof
theunitmayalsoalterwithtemperaturechanges.Beforeselectingaplace
toinstallyourPIRPorchLight,youshouldnotethatmovementacrossthe
scanareaismoreeffectivethanmovementdirectlytowardsorawayfrom
thePIRsensor(seeFig.3).Ifmovementismadewalkingdirectlytowards
orawayfromthePIRsensorandnotacross,thePIRdetectionrangewillbe
substantiallyreduced(seeFig4)
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. SwitchofftheMainssupplyatthemainfuse/distributionbox,ensuring
thereisnopowertothePorchLight.
2. RefertoFigs6,7and8forinstallationdetails.
3. RemovethePorchLightDiffuser/Coverbyusingaflatheadscrewdriverin
theslotsshowninFig6.Gentlytwistthescrewdriverinall4slotsinturn
untilthecoveriscompletelyreleasedfromthelockingmechanism.
4. UnscrewthescrewmarkedA(Fig7)andremovethetransparentplate(Fig
8)touncovertheterminalblock,cablegasketandmountinghole.
5. Markthemountingholespositions(x2)ontothewall/surface.Drilland
plugthewallatthemarkedpositions.ScrewthePorchLightbodytothe
wall/surfacewithsuitablemountingscrews(supplied),makingsurethe
cableisfedthroughtherubbercablegasket.
6. Thenmaketheelectricalconnectionstotheterminalblockasfollows:
LIVE-(RedorBrown)toaterminalmarkedL
NEUTRAL-(BlackorBlue)toaterminalmarkedN
EARTH-(Green/Yellow)toaterminalmarked
WARNING - THIS FITTING MUST BE EARTHED
7. Ensurethattherearenoexposedconductors,looseortrappedcable
strands.
8. Insertanappropriatemaximum60Watt/240V~50Hzincandescentbulb/
lampintotheBCbulb/lampholder(notsupplied),oranenergysaving
bulb/lamp,suchasaFusion®11WspiralCompactFluorescentora6.5W
LEDGLS-Please note this Porch Light is not dimmable.
9. Re-fixthetransparentplatebyscrew(s)markedA(Fig.7).
10. Re-fitthePorchLightDiffuser/Coverbyhand.
11. Afterfinishingthemounting,youcannowadjustthedetectionareaand
workingstateofthePIR,theDusktoDawnSensorversionisfixed.
12. Switchonthepowersupplyfortestingandadjustment.
Please Note: ThisPorchLightshouldbewiredtoitsownlightswitch.Do
notinterconnectwithotherlightsonthesameswitch.
UNDERSTANDING THE CONTROLS (PIR) (refertoFig.5)
Adjusting the Duration Time: ThelengthoftimethePorchLightremains
ononceactivatedcanbeadjustedfrom10±5Secondsto4±1Minutes.
RotatingtheTIMEcontrolfrom+to-willalterthedurationtime.
Note:OncethelighthasbeentriggeredbythePIRsensoranysubsequent
detectionwillstartthetimeperiodagainfromthebeginning
Adjusting the Lux Control Level: TheLuxcontrolmodulehasabuilt-insensing
device(photocell)thatdetectsdaylightanddarkness.Thepositiondenotes
thatthePorchLightcanworkduringthedayandatnight.theposition
meansitwillonlyworkatnight.Youcansettooperatetheunitatthedesired
levelbyadjustingtheLUXcontrol.
SETTING THE CONTROLS
1. TurntheLUXcontroltothedaylightposition,turnthePorchLight
onandwaithalfaminuteforthecontrolcircuittostabilise.Atthisstage
ensurethattheTIMEcontrolissetattheminimumdurationtime-position.
ThePorchLightwillnowswitchonandremainonforapproximately30
seconds(within60seconds).
2. DirectthesensortowardthedesiredareatobescannedbyadjustingthePIR
sensor.
3.Haveanotherpersonmoveacrossthecentreoftheareatobescannedand
slowlyadjustthePIRsensoruntiltheunitdetectsthepresenceoftheofthe
movingperson,causingthelighttoswitchon(seeFig3).
4. Adjustthetimecontroltotherequiredsetting.
5. TosettheLUXlevelatwhichthelightwillautomaticallyswitch‘ON’at
night,pleaseturntheLUXcontrolfromthedaylightpositiontonight.
Ifthelightisrequiredtoswitchonearlier,egDusk,waitforthedesired
environmentallightlevel,thenslowlyturntheLUXcontroltowardsthe
daylightpositionwhilesomeonewalksacrossthecentreoftheareato
bedetected.Whenthelightswitcheson,releasetheLUXcontrol.Youmay
needtomakefurtheradjustmentsforyourideallightlevelsetting.

Problem
Lightdoesnotswitchonwhenthereis
movementinthedetectionarea.
Lampswitchesoffornoapparentreason
(falsetrigger).
Lightremainson.
Lightswitchesonduringdaylighthours.
Whensettingcontrolsindaylightthe
detectiondistancebecomesshorter
Possible Cause
1. NomainsVoltage.
2. Nearbylightingistoobright.
3. Controlssetincorrectly.
4. Sensorpositionedinwrongdirection.
1. Heatsourcessuchasair-con,vents,heaterues,barbecues,
otheroutsidelighting,movingcarsareactivatingsensor.
2. Animals/birdseg:dogs,foxes,catsetc.
3. Interferencefromon/offswitchingofelectricfansorlightson
thesamecircuitasyourPorchLight.Thisproblemdoesnot
alwaysoccur,butafaultyswitchornoisyuorescentlightmay
causethePorchLighttoswitchon.
4. Refectionfromswimmingpoolorreectivesurface.
1. Continuouslyfalsetriggering.
2. Timeissettoolong.
Luxcontrolissettodaylightposition.
InterferencebySunlight.
Suggested Remedy
Checkallconnectionsandfuses/switches.
Redirectsensororrelocatetheunit.
Readjustthesensorangleorcontrolswitches.

Moveawayfromheatsources.
Redirectingsensorheadmayhelp.
Shouldthefalsetriggeringbecometroublesome,consider:
a.Replacingafaultyswitch
b.Replacingnoisyuorescenttubesand/orstarters.
c.ConnectingthePorchLighttoaseparatecircuit.
Inmostcaseswhereoneormoreoftheabovesuggestions
hasbeencarriedout,falsetriggeringhasbeenreduced.
Redirectsensor.
Redirectingsensorheadmayhelp.
Reducetime.
TurnLuxcontroltodesiredlightlevelsetting
Re-testatnight
Important Cleaning/Maintenance Information:
1. Toavoiddustbuild-upandtoensurethecorrectfunctionofthePorchLight,
wipethesensorlenslightlywithadampclothevery3months.Butnever
modifytheunit,therearenouserserviceablepartsinside.
2. BeforetouchingthePorchLightorreplacingtheLamp/Bulb,pleaseswitch
offallpowertotheunitandletitcoolcompletely.
