Onceyourremoteissetuptoworkwith yourDIRECTV
Receiver,youcansetitupforyourotherequipmentusing

uponscreenbypressingMENU,thenSELECT onSettings,
SetupintheQuickMenu,thenselectingRemotefromthe
leftmenu.
CONTROLLING YOUR TV
Once you have successfully set up your DIRECTV Remote
tooperateyourDIRECTVReceiver,youcansetitupto
controlyour TV. Werecommendyou use the on-screen
stepsdescribedonpage8,butyoucanalsousethe
manualmethodbelow:
1. TurnontheTV.
NOTE: Pleasereadsteps2-5completelybeforeproceed-
ing.Highlightorwritedownthecodesandcom-
ponentyouwishtosetupbefore moving onto
step2.
2. Locatethe5-digitcodeforyourTV.(See“Setup
Codes for TVs”onpage15.)
3. SlidetheMODE switchto the TVposition.
4. PressandholdtheMUTE andSELECT keys at thesame
timeuntilthegreenlightundertheTVposition
flashestwice,thenreleasebothkeys.
5. Usingthenumberkeysenterthe5-digitcodeforyour
brandofTV.Ifperformedcorrectly,thegreenlight
underTV flashedtwice.
6. AimtheremoteatyourTVandpressthePWR key
once. YourTVshouldturnoff.Ifitdoes notturn off,
repeatsteps3and4,tryingeachcodeforyourbrand
untilyoufindthecorrectcode.

TV POWER.YourTVshould turnon.

SETTING UP THE TV INPUT KEY
OnceyouhavesetuptheDIRECTV®Remote controlfor
your TV, you can activate the TV INPUT keyso youcan
changethe“source”—thepieceofequipmentwhosesignal
isdisplayedonyourTV:
1. SlidetheMODE switchto theTV position.
2. PressandholdtheMUTE andSELECT keysuntilthe
greenlightundertheTVpositionflashestwice,then
release both keys.
3. Usingthenumberkeysenter9-6-0. (Thegreenlight
undertheTV positionflashestwice.)
YounowcanchangetheinputforyourTV.
Deactivating the TV Input Select Key
IfyouwanttodeactivatetheTV INPUT key, repeat steps 1
through3fromtheprevioussection;thegreenlightwill
blink4times.PressingtheTV INPUT key will now do
nothing.
CONTROLLING OTHER COMPONENTS
TheAV1 andAV2 switchpositionscanbesetuptocontrola
VCR,DVD,STEREO,secondDIRECTVReceiverorsecond
TV.Werecommendyouusetheonscreensteps
described onpage8,butyoucanalsousethemanual
methodbelow:
1. Turnonthecomponentyouwishtocontrol(e.g.your
DVD Player).
2. Locatethe5-digitcodeforyourcomponent.(See
“SetupCodes,OtherDevices”startingonpage15.)
3. SlidetheMODE switchtotheAV1 (orAV2)position.
4. PressandholdtheMUTE andSELECT keys at thesame
timeuntilthegreenlightunderAV1 (orAV2)flashes
twice,thenreleasebothkeys.
5. UsingtheNUMBER keys,enterthe5-digitcodeforthe
brand ofcomponentbeing set up.If performed
correctly,thegreenlightundertheselectedposition
flashestwice.
6. AimtheremoteatyourcomponentandpressthePWR
keyonce.Thecomponentshouldturnoff;ifit does
not,repeatsteps3and4,tryingeachcodeforyour
branduntilyoufindthecorrectcode.

IfyouwereunabletofindthecodeforyourbrandofTVor

8. When theTVorcomponentturnsoff turns off or
performstheactionyouselectedinstep5,stop
pressingtheCHANSkey.Then,pressandreleasethe
SELECT key.
NOTE: Ifthelightflashes3timesbeforetheTVorcom-
ponentresponds,you'vecycledthroughall
codesandthecodeyouneedisnotavailable.You
mustusetheremotethatcamewithyourTVor
component.
Verifying the Codes
OnceyouhavesetuptheDIRECTV®Universal Remote
Controlusingtheabovesteps,usethefollowing
instructionstofindoutthe5-digitcodetowhichyour
componentresponded:
1. SlidetheMODE switchto the appropriateposition.
2. PressandholdtheMUTE andSELECT keys at thesame
timeuntilthegreenlightundertheselectedswitch
positionflashestwice,thenreleasebothkeys.
3. Enter9-9-0.(Thegreenlightundertheselected
switchpositionflashestwice.)
4. To viewthefirstdigitinthecode,Pressandrelease
thennumber1key.Waitthreeseconds,andcountthe
numberoftimesthegreenlightflashes.Writethis
numberdown intheleftmostTV, AV1or AV2code
boxfoundonpage10.
5. Repeatstep4fourmoretimesfortheremaining
digits;i.e.,pressnumber2fortheseconddigit,3for
thethirddigit,4forthefourthdigitand5forthefinal
digit.
CHANGING VOLUME LOCK
Dependingonhowyousetupyourremote,theVOL and
MUTE maycontrolthe volumeonlyon yourTV,regardless
oftheposition ofthe MODE switch.Thisremotecanbeset
upsothattheVOL andMUTE keys work only withthe
componentselectedbytheMODE switch.Toenablethis
feature,perform thefollowing steps:
1. PressandholdtheMUTE andSELECT keysuntilthe
greenlightundertheDIRECTV positionflashestwice,
thenreleasebothkeys.
2. Usingthenumberkeys,enter9-9-3. (Thegreenlight
willflashtwiceafterthe3.)
3. PressandreleasetheVOL+key.(Thegreenlight
flashes4times.)
Now the VOL andMUTE keys will work onlyfor the
componentselectedbytheMODE switchposition.
Locking Volume to AV1, AV2 or TV
1. SlidetheMODE switchtotheAV1,AV2 orTV positionto
lockthevolume.
2. PressandholdtheMUTE andSELECT keysuntilthe
greenlightundertheselectedswitchflashestwiceand
release both keys.

ACTIVATING AND DEACTIVATING THE RF
TRANSMITTER
YourDIRECTVRemoteControlfeaturesRF(radio
frequency)capability.WhenyouactivatetheRFfeatureof
your remote control, you can control your DIRECTV
Receiverfromanywhereinyourhome.Youdonotneedto
bewithinthelineofsightofyourreceivertocontrolit.
NOTE: NotallDIRECTVReceiversareRF-capable.Also,
someRF-capableDIRECTVReceiversincludeintegrated
RFantennasanddonotrequireanexternalantenna.If
yourreceiverrequirestheexternalRFantenna,before
activatingtheRFtransmitter,locatetheRFantenna
includedwithyourremotecontrolandinsertitintotheRF
remoteantennacoaxialconnectoronthebackofyour
DIRECTVReceiver.
Activating the RF Transmitter
ToactivatetheRFtransmitteronyourDIRECTVRemote
Control,performthefollowingsteps:
1. Locatethe12digitReceiverID(RID)numberofyour
DIRECTVReceiver.YoucanfindtheRIDnumberon
thebackpanelofyourreceiver,orinsidetheCAM
accessdoornexttotheresetbutton.
2. WritedownthelastsixdigitsoftheRIDnumber.
3. SlidethemodeswitchtoDIRECTV,AV1,orAV2.
4. PressandholdtheMUTE andSELECT keysuntilthe
greenlightundertheselectedswitchflashestwiceand
release both keys.
5. Usingthenumberkeys,enter9 6 1. (Thegreenlight
flashestwice.)
6. PressandreleaseCHANS.(Thegreenlightflashes
twice.)
7. UsingtheNUMBER keys,enterthelastsixdigitsofthe
RIDnumber.(Seestep2above.)

RESTORING FACTORY DEFAULT SETTINGS
Toresetallthefunctionsoftheremotecontroltothe
factory defaults(theoriginal, out-of-the-boxsettings),
followthesesteps:
1. PressandholdtheMUTE andSELECT keys at thesame
timeuntilthegreenlightflashestwice,thenrelease
bothkeys.
2. Usingthenumberkeys,enter9-8-1. (Thegreenlight
flashes4times.)
TROUBLESHOOTING
PROBLEM: Lightatthetopoftheremoteblinkswhenyou
pressakey,butthecomponentdoesnotrespond.
SOLUTION 1: Tryreplacingthebatteries(seepage7).
SOLUTION 2: MakesureyouareaimingtheDIRECTV®
UniversalRemoteControlatyourhomeentertainment
componentandthatyouarewithin15feetofthe
componentyouaretryingto control.
PROBLEM: TheDIRECTV UniversalRemoteControldoes
notcontrolcomponentorcommandsarenotrecognized
properly.
SOLUTION: Tryalllistedcodesforthedevicebrandbeing
setup.Makesureallcomponentscanbeoperatedwithan
infrared remote control.
PROBLEM: TV/VCRcombodoesnotrespondproperly.
SOLUTION: UsetheVCRcodesforyourbrand.Somecombo
unitsmayrequirebothaTVcodeandaVCRcodeforfull
operation(seepage8).
PROBLEM: CHANS,CHANT,and PREV donotworkfor
your RCA TV.
SOLUTION: DuetoRCAdesignforcertainmodels(1983-
1987),onlytheoriginalremotecontrolwilloperatethese
functions.
PROBLEM: Changingchannelsdoesnotworkproperly.
SOLUTION: Iforiginalremotecontrolrequiredpressing
ENTER tochangechannels,pressENTER ontheDIRECTV
Universalremotecontrolafterenteringachannelnumber.
PROBLEM: RemotecontroldoesnotturnonSonyorSharp
TV/VCRCombo.
SOLUTION: Forpoweron,theseproductsrequiresettingup
