GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS
This appliance mustbe grounded. If itshould malfunctionor breakdown, groundingprovidesapathof least
resistancefor electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock. This appliance is equipped with a cord
having an equipment-grounding conductor and groundingplug. The plug must be inserted into an appro-
priate outlet that is properly installedand groundedinaccordancewith all localcodes and ordinances.
WARNING
Improperconnection of the equipment-groundingconductor can result ina riskof electric shock. Check with a qualifiedelectricianor service personif
you are indoubtas to whether the outlet is properly grounded. Do not modifythe plug providedwith the appliance

PREPARING
THE
CARPETRJPHOLSTERY:
IMPORTANT:
Do not usethe Spot ScrubberTM as a dryvacuum.
For existing stains
or
spots:
1.
Vacuumcarpethpholsterythoroughly. Usea DirtDevil@vacuum cleaner
with
a revolvingbrushrollfor best results.
CHECK FOR COLOR FASTNESS:
Before
deaningcarpetlupholstery, test for color
fastness.
Dampena white cloth with dirt devil deaningsolution.Test a small area in a doset or
under
a
cushion.Gently rubthe dothoverthe area. Check
each
colorfor colorbleeding. If thedothremainsclean,
it
should
be
safe
to deanthe
carpet/upholstery.
CHECK CLEANINGCODE ON UPHOLSTERY:
NOTE:
If upholsteryis not marked, seek professional assistance.
Use only on upholsterylfabric marked:

Checkthe cushionfoam color. Ifthe foam isa dark color,
it
may
bleedthrough and discolor the fabric.
FOR QUICK SPILLS:
Makesure cleaning mode selector knob isset to "vacuumn.
Vacuum upas much of the spill as possible.
Spray cleaningsolutionon the spot usingspray pump. Allow cleaningsolutionto penetratestainfor approximately

minutes.

Scrub with rotatingbrush.

HELPFUL HINTS FOR CLEANING CARPETIUPHOLSTERY:
1.
Do notoversaturate carpetlupholsterywith cleaning solution while usingthe Spot Scrubber".
2.
Allow cleaningsolution to penetratestainfor approximately
2
minutes.
3.
For heavilysoiled areas, additionalapplicationsmay be necessary.
4.
Allow plenty of time to dry carpetlupholsterythoroughly.
5.
Wipe cleaning solution from woodwork and wood to prevent any damage.
6.
Try notto walk oncarpet untilitiscompletelydry.
7.
After carpet isthoroughly dry, vacuum the carpet using a cleaner with a revolvingbrushroll.
AFTER CLEANING:
Allow carpet to dry completely.Try not to walk on the carpet until it is dry.
If you needto walk on the carpet, place white towels onthe areas you want to walk.
If
thecarpet is not dry and the furniture must be placed back inthe room, use plasticor foil underthe furniture to preventstaining
the carpet.
Thoroughlyclean the dirtywater tank with hot tap water. See page
7.

HOW
TO'
OPERATE
REMOVEAND REPLACECLEAN SOLUTION RESERVOIR:
1.
Graspcleansolutionreservoir under handle and press handle release latchdown (Diagram
1).
,2.
Slidecleansolution reservoiraway from cleaner and remove (Diagram
2).
3. Unscrew
cap
from back of clean solution reservoir (Diagram3). Fillreservoirwith approximately
112
oz. of solution. Fillremaining
clean solution reservoirwith hot tap water (Diagram4). Replacecap.
NOTE:
UseonlyDirtDevileCarpet
&
RugShampoo.Usingother cleaningsolutions may cause excessivefoaming.EkExcevefoam
willmuse thefloat toshut off the vacuumprematurely. Usingother cleaners will voidyour warranty

NOTE:
Failure toinstall the clean solut,on reservoir correctly willresult inpoor dirty waterpickup.
CARPETIUPHOLSTERY CLEANING:
NOTE:
Neverleave unitunattended withpower on. TurnOFF when emptyingand filling reservoir.Do NOT oversaturate the carpet.
IMPORTANT:
For best cleaning results use steady, moderateforward and backwardmotion.
1.
Plugcord into electricaloutlet.
2.
Turn power switch"onn.Switch islocated on rear leftside of cleaner (Diagram
6).
3. The cleaningmode selector will switch powerto either the "vacuum"(Diagram
7)
or the "scrub" (Diagram7a). For very wet areas, first
try to vacuum the majorityof the stain, removingas much liquidas possible. Then turn the cleaning mode selector to "scrub" (before
.
spraying)andspray solutionontothe stain. Allow the cleaning solutionto penetratestainfor

minutes.Use rotatingbrushto agitatein
aforwardandbackwardmotionusingsmooth steadystrokes (Diagram
8).
Next,changethe cleaning modeselectorto"vacuum"to pick
up remaining moisture.
Empty the
dirty
water
tank when:
Dirtywater reachesthe "FULLnlineon dirty water tank OR
Float shuts off airflow, indicatedby achange in pitchof the motorand reducedsuction.
NOTE:
Floatmay activate when unitis used verti~llyor turnedon its side.

EMPTYINGAND CLEANING DIRTYWATER TANK:

EMPTYING DIRTYWATER TANK:
WARNING: ALWAYS REMOVE DIRTYWATER TANK BEFORE EMPTYING.
NOTE:
Do
NOT
remove dirty water tank with unit in upright position.

Grasp sidesof dirty water tank and push latchto release(Diagram
1).
2.
Grasp and rocktank forward out of base (Diagram
2).
3.
Unscrewdirtywater tank draincap (Diagram
3).
4.
Empty dirtywater into sink (Diagram
4).
5.
Replacedirtywater tank drain cap.
CLEANING DIRTYWATER TANK:
1.
Rinsedirty water tank with hot tap water.
2.
Let dry thoroughlybeforestoringto preventmildewfrom forming.
NOTE:
Do not use any chemicals when cleaning.
HOWTO CLEAN FILTER:
1. Check filter locatedon top of dirty water tank periodicallyand clean by rinsingwith water when dirty (Diagram
5).
NOTE:
Make sure to replace filter after cleaning.
PLACINGDlRTY WATER TANK IN BASE OF CLEANER:

Grasp handleand hook frontof dirty water tank into base of cleaner, makingsure front of dirtywater tank is hooked securely into
the base (Diagram
6).
The dirtywater tank has

tabs on the undersidewhich MUST latchintothe undersideof the baseof the
cleaner.
2.
While makingsure the front of the dirty water tank is hookedonthe base, rockthe rear of the tank intothe base of the cleaner.
Pushdown untilit latches(Diagram
7).
The dirtywater tank will needto be emptiedonce or twice per fill upof the clean solution
reservoir.
NOTE:
Failure to install the dirty water tank correctly, will result in poor dirty waterpickup.
NOTE:
Donot store cleaner with solution in reservoir or dirty water
in
dirty water tank. Mineral depositsand mildew can
form
which will
affect the performance of your Spot Scrubbet".
HOWTO STORE CLEANER:
1.
Flipupcordwrap locatedontop of cleaner just below solutiontrigger. Wrap cordaroundcleaner usingthe cordwrap (Diagram
8).
