1. Introduction

servicing this product.
The manufacturer will not accept liability for any resulting damages caused by the non-observance of
this manual.
After unpacking, check the contents of the box. If any parts are missing or damaged, contact your
Highlite International dealer.

Intended Use
This device is intended for professional use as an HDMI fibre-optic extender. It is suitable only for indoor
installation. This device is not suitable for households.
Any other use, not mentioned under intended use, is regarded as non-intended and incorrect use.
Product Lifespan
This device is not designed for permanent operation. Disconnect the device from the electrical power
supply when the device is not in operation. This will reduce the wear and will improve the device’s
lifespan.

2. Safety
Important

servicing this product.

Warnings and Safety Instructions

For adult use only. The device must be installed beyond the reach of children.
Do not leave various parts of the packaging (plastic bags, polystyrene foam, nails, etc.) within children’s
reach. Packaging material is a potential source of danger for children.
Attention
Incorrect handling of the AC power adapter may result in hazardous situations
This device is delivered with an AC power adapter. Incorrect handling of the AC power adapter may
result in hazardous situations.
●Use only the AC power adapter delivered with the device.
●Do not wrap the power cable around the power adapter or any other object. This can damage the
internal wires.
●Do not cover the power adapter with anything when it is plugged into the socket-outlet. This may
cause overheating.
●Do not expose the power adapter to water or other liquids.
Do not use the power adapter:
●If it shows signs of overheating, for example the plastic is damaged
●If the AC input pins show signs of corrosion or overheating
●If the power cable is damaged or shows signs of material fatigue.
Attention
General safety
●Do not shake the device. Avoid brute force when installing or operating the device.
●If the device is dropped or struck, disconnect the device from the electrical power supply
immediately.
●If the device is exposed to extreme temperature variations (e.g. after transportation), do not switch it
on immediately. Let the device reach room temperature before switching it on, otherwise it may be
damaged by the formed condensation.
●If the device fails to work correctly, discontinue the use immediately.

This device is designed to be used as an HDMI fibre-optic extender. Any incorrect use may lead to
hazardous situations and result in injuries and material damage.
●This device is not designed for permanent operation.
●This device does not contain user-serviceable parts. Unauthorized modifications to the device will
render the warranty void. Such modifications may result in injuries and material damage.
Attention
Do not expose the device to conditions that exceed the rated IP class conditions.
This device is IP20 rated. IP (Ingress Protection) 20 class provides protection against solid objects greater
than 12 mm, such as fingers, and no protection against harmful ingress of water.
Requirements for the User
This product may be used by ordinary persons. Maintenance and installation may be carried by ordinary
persons. Service shall be carried out only by instructed or skilled persons. Contact your Highlite
International dealer for more information.
Instructed persons have been instructed and trained by a skilled person, or are supervised by a skilled
person, for specific tasks and work activities associated with the operation, installation, service and
maintenance of this product, so that they can identify risks and take precautions to avoid them.
Skilled persons have training or experience, which enables them to recognize risks and to avoid hazards
associated with the operation, installation, service and maintenance of this product.
Ordinary persons are all persons other than instructed persons and skilled persons. Ordinary persons
include not only users of the product but also any other persons that may have access to the device or
who may be in the vicinity of the device.

3. Description of the Device
The DMT VT202 - KVM HDMI/USB Fibre Extender Set enables sending HDMI and USB signals over long
distances. The set consists of a transmitter and a receiver that communicate through a fibre-optic cable.
With the supplied multi-mode SFP modules a transmission distance of up to 300 m can be achieved. The
device supports HDMI signal resolutions of up to 4K (3840x2160 px @ 30 Hz) and USB 1.1 signal transmission.

4. Installation and Setup
Warnings and Precautions
Attention
Connect all data cables before supplying power.
Disconnect power supply before connecting or disconnecting data cables.
Installation Site Requirements
The device must be installed only indoors.
The device can be placed on a flat surface or mounted to a display or a monitor.
The maximum ambient temperature ta= 40 °C must never be exceeded.
The relative humidity must not exceed 95 %.

Mounting
The devices can be placed on a flat surface or mounted to a display or a monitor. The devices are
supplied with a set of 2 mounting brackets.
You need a Phillips screwdriver.
To mount the devices, follow the steps below:
01) Remove the mounting screws (07)/(14).
02) Place the mounting bracket on the side of the device so that the screw holes on the mounting
bracket face the screw holes on the device.
03) Insert the mounting screws (07)/(14) and tighten them up.

04) Mount the device to the external display or monitor.
SFP Module Installation
Attention
The SFP module is sensitive to dust.
Keep the dust cap on the SFP module when no fibre-optic cable is connected.
The device is supplied with 2 SFP modules. The SFP modules are not installed. To install the SFP modules,
follow the steps below:
01) Remove the dust cap from the SFP module.
02) Pull the latch and insert the SFP module into the SFP module slot (04)/(11).

03) Release the latch.
04) Place the dust cap back into the SFP module. Make sure that the dust cup is always installed when
the fibre-optic cable is not connected to the SFP module.

Setup Example
This a typical setup of a VT202 - 4K-HDMI/USB KVM Fibre Extender Set (TX/RX) and external devices.

To connect the extender set (transmitter and receiver) to other devices in a setup, follow the steps below:
Connect the input device (a personal computer or a laptop) to the HDMI signal connector IN (01) or
the USB-B connector (02) on the transmitter.
Connect the output device (a display or a TV) to the HDMI signal connector OUT (08) on the
receiver.
Connect other peripheral devices (a keyboard, a mouse) to the USB-A connectors (09) on the
receiver.
Install the SFP modules into the receiver and the transmitter. See 4.4. SFP Module Installation on
page 10.
Connect the LC connector of the SFP module on the transmitter to the LC connector of the SFP
module on the receiver with a fibre-optic cable. The fibre-optic signal LED indicators (red) (05)/(12)
light up.
Note:
The multi-mode SFP modules supplied with the device support a signal transmission of up to 300 m. Make
sure that the distance between the transmitter and the receiver is not larger than 300 m.
06) Connect the transmitter and the receiver to power supply. See 4.6. Connecting to Power Supply on
page 12.

Connecting to Power Supply
Attention
Incorrect handling of the AC power adapter may result in hazardous situations
This device is delivered with an AC power adapter. Incorrect handling of the AC power adapter may
result in hazardous situations.
●Connect the receiver to the socket-outlet with the delivered AC power adapter. Use only the AC
power adapter delivered with the device.
●Make sure that the socket-outlet is easily accessible.
Disconnect the AC power adapter from the socket-outlet when the device is not in use.
4.7. LED Statuses
There are 2 LED indicators on the transmitter and the receiver: fibre-optic signal LED indicator (red) and
HDMI signal LED indicator (green).
The fibre-optic signal LED indicators (red) (05)/(12) have the following statusses:
●ON: a good connection is established between the transmitter and receiver via
the fibre-optic cable
●OFF: the transmitter and the receiver are not connected or the fibre-optic
connection is not good
The HDMI signal LED indicators (green) (06)/(13) have the following statusses:
●ON: HDMI signal is present
●OFF: no HDMI signal

5. Troubleshooting
This troubleshooting guide contains actions which can be carried out by the user. The device does not
contain user-serviceable parts.
Unauthorized modifications to the device will render the warranty void. Such modifications may result in
injuries and material damage.
Refer servicing to instructed or skilled persons. Contact your Highlite International dealer in case the
solution is not described in the table.

6. Maintenance
Preventive Maintenance
Make sure that there are no deformations on housings, fixations and installation points.
Basic Cleaning Instructions
To clean the device, follow the steps below:
01) Clean the device with a soft, lint-free cloth.
02) Remove residual dust with an air-duster or air-blower. Keep the air-duster or air-blower at a minimum
distance of 30 cm.
Attention
●Do not immerse the device in liquid.
●Do not use alcohol or solvents.
●Do not clean the device with a brush.
Corrective Maintenance
The device does not contain user-serviceable parts. Do not open the device and do not modify the
device.
Refer repairs and servicing to instructed or skilled persons. Contact your Highlite International dealer for
more information.

7. Deinstallation, Transportation and Storage
●Disconnect power supply before deinstallation.
●Use the original packaging to transport the device, if possible.
●Always observe the handling instructions printed on the outer carton box, for example: “Handle with
care”, “This side up”, “Fragile”.
●Clean the device before storing. Follow the cleaning instructions in chapter 6.1.1. Basic Cleaning
Instructions on page 13.
●Store the device in the original packaging, if possible.
8. Disposal
Correct disposal of this product
Disposal of Old Electrical and Electronic Equipment (Applicable in the European
Union and other European countries with separate collection systems)
This symbol on the product, its packaging or documents indicates that the product
shall not be treated as household waste. Dispose of this product by handing it to the
applicable collection point for the recycling of electrical and electronic
equipment. This is to avoid environmental damage or personal injury due to
uncontrolled waste disposal. For more detailed information about recycling of this
