Auto Slide Preparation System Extension Module Package 5
1. Product overview
1 – 1 Outline
This Option Package (LK-400) is an extension package which can be connected to the Auto Slide
Preparation System (AS-410) Main Unit and operates sectioning process with a LAN connection
automatically. Users can enter sectioning data or printing information, priviously set with the touch
panel of the AS-410 Main Unit, with the LK-400 system installed in the designated PC, and monitor
automated sectioning process. This extension package enables coordinated automatic section
preparation operation between the external systam and the AS-410.
The LK-400 program has two application methods:
Method 1- The System reads barcodes printed on the sample cassette placed in the AS-410, then
operate the section preparation based on the saved condition data on the PC.
Method 2- The System executes the section preparation operation based on the manual input data
and sample tray numbers.
By connecting with an external system, such as a pathological diagnosis support system sold by
software manufacturers, the LK-400 program enables a coordinated automatic slide glass preparation
with the external system. It requires simply to save the necessary sectioning information onto the
shared data folder and set sample block cassettes with barcodes.
1 – 2 The process of section preparation
①Sample setting
Place the sample cassette with printed barcode on the AS-410 sample tray.
②Barcode reading of the sample
The Sample Identification Function reads the barcode printed on sample casettes. The read data
is transferred to the LK-400 PC and system refers to the registered data.
③Sectioning of the sample
The AS-410 acquires the registered data of each sample from the LK-400 PC; the system sections
each sample automatically with the individually specified conditions, e.g. sectioning thickness and
number of the sections to cut.

LK-400 Operation Manual
Auto Slide Preparation System Extension Module Package 6
④Printing on slides
The AS-410 acquires the contents of the data registered for each sample in the LK-400 PC, and
automatically prints it on the slide glass (sample number, name, QR code, etc.).
⑤Data matching check
The sample management function of AS-410 checks the QR code printed on the slide glass
against the barcode information of the sample cassette.
⑥Storing the slide in the Slide Collection Box
The specified number of tissue sections cut from a sample block are mounted on slides and
stored in the slide collection box.

1 – 5 How to use LK-400
1 – 5 – 1 Transfering data from an external-system PC through LAN
(1) Print the sample identification number (barcode) on the sample embedded cassette from the
external system terminal PC or other device using a cassette printer.
(2) Turn ON the power of LK-400 PC and start up the system.
(3) Create a file of the sample identification number (barcode) read by the terminal PC of external
system of the necessary information for the section preparation, e.g. sectioning condition, slide
type, slide printing, etc. Then save the file information to the shared folder of this LK-400 PC.
(4) Turn ON the power of AS-410 Main Unit and execute the initialization.
(5) Start-up LK-400 Software; select the Auto Sectioning Mode after logging in.
(6) Place the embedded sample cassette discribed in the above step (1) onto the sample tray in the
AS-410 Main Unit.
(7) Execute the section preparation followed by the touch panel menu of AS-410 by online.
(8) After the section preparation is completed, collect the prepared slides stored in the slide collection
box.
(9) Repeat the process from (6) to (8) to perform the section preparation continuously.

Dataflow of the LK-400
3. Creating Data
3 – 1 Dataflow
The necessary data is collected from the database informaion of the ShareData (∖shared folder)
written from an external system. The CSV file saved in the shared folder has respective sample
information such as sectioning condition and print information; AS-410 System operates the data
communication for the described information.
After the section preparation, the CSV file of the completed block with Auto Sectioning Mode
on-line will be saved in the temporary folder ( ¥TmpDtata).
① When the section preparation by AS-410 starts with on-line mode, the system searches the
relevant file from the shared folder which is matching with the sample (cassette) code placed in the
AS-410. The system refers shared folder for the Auto Sectioning Mode; the system refers
temporary folder for the Retry Mode and the Manual Input mode.
② Regarding the files in the shared folder, the system copy the block files to be sectioned in the
automatic sectioning mode to the temp folder and then read the sectioning information.
③ The section preparation information of the sample block placed in the AS-410 will be displayed
on the LK-400.

③ After the slide preparation operation completes, the system creates the stored (collected) slide
information in the Running History. The Running History information can be saved in a specified file
as CSV format.
⑤ The system creates an Error History if system error occurred during the remote connection. Such
Error History can be saved in the specified file as CSV format; however, the PC error and the
caution error from the Main Unit will not be recorded in the Error History. Refer to the 5-1 “Caution
error” or the 5-3 “Error code table” on Chapter 5 of the Operation Manual for more detail.
⑥ When the section preparation completes, the data of the corresponding block will be deleted
from the shared folder.
3 – 2 File
The System verifies the file name and the barcode saved in the shared folder for the automatic file
reading. Create the file with the corresponding name as CSV format.
3 – 3 Data format
Data format: CSV file
File name: Barcode number of the sample block
Data information: The information can be registered up to 400 lines at most for each block (1file),
e.g. stain code, stain name, numbers, etc.
・The hard disk of the PC has the limited capacity. Ensure to backup the file
periodically, about once in half a year. Delete unnecessary file from the shared folder
by using Explorer of the OS, and the like.
