liquids, such as coffee cups, shall be placed on the equipment. To ensure safe operation and to guard against potential shock hazard or risk of fire, the
following must be observed:
o Ensure that your mains supply is in the correct range for the input power requirement of the unit.
oEnsurefuses fitted are the correct rating and type as marked on the unit.

TheDolbyDP600ProgramOptimizerisadirectresultofDolbyLaboratories’continued
leadershipinthedevelopmentofinnovativebroadcasttechnologies.Thisinnovativetool
isdesignedspecificallyforcable,satellite,IPTV,andterrestrialTVbroadcastersthat
employafile‐basedinfrastructureandworkflow.TheDP600includestheworld’sfirst
intelligentaudioanalysisandautomatedloudnessnormalizationengineformanyofthe
mostcommonbroadcastmediafileandaudioformatsinusetoday.Inaddition,itoffers
DolbyE,DolbyDigital,andDolbyDigitalPlusencoding,decoding,andtranscoding,allin
anopenarchitecture.
UsingtheDP600,broadcasterscanprovidetheirviewerswithaconsistentaudio
experienceandreduceloudnesscomplaintsacrossalloftheirprograms,channels,and
networks.ExpandingupontheuniqueDialogueIntelligence™technologydevelopedfor
theDolbyLM100BroadcastLoudnessMeter,theDP600normalizestheloudnessofaudio
programswithnoimpactontheiroriginaldynamicrange.
TheDP600automatespreviouslylengthyquality‐controlprocesses,andperformsthemin
fasterthanrealtime.ItautomaticallyanalyzesaudiobitstreamscodedinDolbyE,Dolby
Digital,andDolbyDigitalPlus,foranychannelconfigurationandloudnesslevel.It
intelligentlyandautomaticallysets,validates,andcorrectsthedialoguenormalization
(dialnorm)audiometadataparameterwithouttheneedfordecodingandreencoding—
ensuringaproperlyencodedbitstream.TheDP600alsoprovidesintelligentandautomatic
speech‐basedloudnessnormalizationforbothPCMaudioandMPEG‐1LIIaudio.
Forcompressedaudioformatsthatincludemetadata(forexample,DolbyE,DolbyDigital,
andDolbyDigitalPlus),theDolbyDP600canautomaticallysetorcorrectthedialnorm
parameter(seeFigure 1‐1).Foraudioformatsthatdonotincludemetadata,theDolby
DP600canautomaticallysetorcorrectthedialnormparameterbyreferencinga
user‐definedtargetlevel(seeFigure 1‐2).
TheModelDP600‐Caddsfaster‐than‐real‐timefile‐basedencodinganddecodingofDolby
DigitalandDolbyDigitalPlus,andthefirstfile‐basedimplementationofDolbyE.In
addition,thismodelenablesmultichannelaudiotranscodingofDolbyEtoDolbyDigital
orDolbyDigitalPlusformats.Italsoprovidesauniquehigh‐quality,single‐stepDolby
DigitaltoDolbyDigitalPlustranscoderthatpreservesthemetadataandminimizes
tandemcodinglosses.Thisallowstheaudiofromexistingmediaarchivestobeconverted
tonext‐generationbroadcastformats.

1.1 Work Flow Integration
YoucanintegratetheDP600intoanexistingfile‐basednetworkinfrastructurewherethe
unitfunctionsasanintelligentprocessingnode.Inthisenvironment,theDP600adaptsto
yourday‐to‐dayoperationsandworkflow,whichincludes:
•Programingest,audiotranscoding,andqualitycontrol:Newlyingestedcontentcan
beroutedthroughtheDP600forloudnessanalysisandcorrection,encoding,
decoding,andtranscodingprocessesbeforebeingmovedtoyourmediastorage
libraryorplay‐outserver.
• Postproduction:File‐basedDolbyE,DolbyDigital,andDolbyDigitalPlusbitstreams
canbeencodedanddecodedtoandfrommultichannel.wavorBroadcastWAV
Format(BWF)fileswithmetadata(includedintheDolbyaudiometadatachunk).
File‐basedmediaandaudioassetscanbeanalyzed,logged,and(ifnecessary)
correctedinfasterthanrealtimebeforedeliverytoclients.
•Adinsertion:NewlyingestedadcontentcanbepasseddirectlytotheDP600for
loudnessanalysisandcorrectionbeforeit’splacedinyourstoragearchiveorad
server.
•Video‐on‐demand(VOD):Customer‐facingVODservers,asinstalledatcableand
IPTVhead‐ends,needtohavetheircontentnormalizedbeforeitismadeavailableto
thepublic.Thiscontentcanbesuppliedtotheserverseitherdirectly,viaaningest
departmentatthebroadcasteroraffiliate,orviasatellitefromoneormorecontent
aggregators.TheDP600canbeinstalledatthecontentaggregator,normalizing
contentbeforeitissent(ʺpitchedʺ)overthesatellitelink.Alternatively,itcanbe
installedatthehead‐end,takingcontentthathaseitherbeeningesteddirectlyor
caughtfromoneormorepitchersandnormalizingitbeforeitispassedtothe
customer‐facingserver.
1.2 Work Flow Flexibility and Ease of Use
TheDolbyDP600platformsuitsseveraltypesofapplications,includingarchiving,
automatedqualitycontrol,contentconversion,andmediaassetmanagement,anditoffers
considerablepotentialforintegrationwiththird‐partysystemsthroughanopen
applicationprogramminginterface(API).
YoucancontroltheDP600anditsprocessingenginesinthreewaystosuitspecificuser
requirements.
•Manualcontrol:Userscansetupandinitiateworkordersonanindividualorbatch
basisfromasimple‐to‐useinterface.
•Third‐partycontrolviaWebservices:Toenablesystemintegrationatanylevel,the
DP600’sprocessingenginesarealsoavailableasasetofWebservices.Thisallows
manufacturerstointegratetheseenginesdirectlyintotheirworkflowtocreatea
seamlessuserexperiencewithoutimpactingday‐to‐dayoperations.
•Automatichotfolderingestprocess:Userscancreatehotfoldersandpredefinea
workorderprofileforeachone.TheprofilegovernstheDP600’sbehaviorwith
specificbroadcastmediatypes.Allmediafilesmovedtoahotfolderare
automaticallyprocessedbasedonthefolder’sprofileanddeliveredtoauser‐defined
folderuponcompletion.Hotfoldersareeasytosetupanduseandcangreatlyspeed
integrationtimewithinsomefacilities.

youneedtopressanyofthesebuttons,useanonconductivematerial,suchasatoothpick.
IfyoupresstheSystem Resetbutton,thesystemrestarts.Pressthisrecessedbuttononlyif
youcannotrestartthesystemusingtheDP600software(orbypressing
<Ctrl>+<Alt>+<Delete>torestart,asdescribedonpage26.Alwaysavoidrestartingby
disconnectingandreconnectingthepowercables.
Youcanusethe Display controlbuttontoadjusttheLCDdisplay.
1.5.4 Power Supply Indicators
ThreepowersupplyLEDsonthefrontpanelindicatewhetherthepowerison,ifoneofthe
redundantpowersupplieshasfailed,andthetemperatureoftheunit.
Power:ThisgreenLEDlightswhentheDP600haspower.
Powersupplyfailure:ThisredLEDisoffduringnormaloperation.Itlightsor
flashesredifeitheroftheredundantpowersuppliesfails.
Temperature:ThistricolorLEDglowsgreenwhenthetemperatureoftheunitis
cool,yellowifthetemperatureiswarm,andredifthetemperatureishot.Ifthis
LEDisyelloworred,theoperatingenvironmentmaybewarmerthanexpected
andinneedofmodification.Insuchacase,callyourDolbyauthorizedtechnical
representativeimmediately.
1.5.5 Internal Drive Indicators
TheDP600hasfivephysicalinternalharddrives.Drives1and2arearrangedina
RAID1configurationtoprovideprotectionfortheoperatingsystemaswellas
localstorage.Theremainingthreeharddrivesareconfiguredasseparatedrivesto
providelocalstorage.ThisconfigurationofoneRAIDpairandthreeseparate
drivesrepresentsfourlogicaldrives.
TherearefourbicolorLEDsonthefrontpanel,labeled1,2,3,and4.TheseLEDs
indicatethestatusoftheDP600’sfourlogicalinternalharddrives.ThedriveLEDs
functionasfollows:
Off(non‐illuminated):Indicatesafunctionaldrivewithnocurrentdiskaccess
activity.
Green:Indicatesnormaldriveactivity.
Red:Indicatesadrivefailure.
LED1 showsthestatusofthetwo‐driveRAID1configuration.Theoperating
systemisinstalledonthesemirroreddrivestopreventaphysicaldrivefailure,
resultinginaninoperablesystem.Ifeitherofthemirroreddrivesfails,theother
RAIDdriveenablesthesystemtooperatenormallyuntilthefaileddriveis
replaced.

LEDs2,3,and4indicatethestatusoftheotherthreephysicaldisks.Thesedisksare
configuredasseparatedrivesanddonothaveRAIDbackupcapability.Ifanyofthese
drivesfail,thefaileddrivesmustbereplaced,andanyworkordersinprogressduringthe
failuremustberestarted.
IfoneofthedriveLEDsturnsred,refertoTable 1‐1todeterminewhichphysicaldrive
failed.Typically,theDP600automaticallyrebuildstheRAIDarraywhenoneoftheRAID
driveshasaproblemorisreplaced(withthepoweron).DuringtheRAIDrebuildprocess,
LED1blinksinredinhalf‐secondintervals.Whentherebuildprocessiscomplete,LED1
stopsblinking.
Insomeinstances,youmustinitiatetherebuildprocessmanually(asdescribedin
RebuildingaDriveonpage 49).Forexample,ifyoureplaceanon‐RAIDdrive.
IfyoureplacebothRAIDdrives,youalsoneedtoreinstalltheDP600software.Insucha
case,followtheinstructionsforacleaninstallationinUpgrading/InstallingtheDP600
Softwareonpage 55.Whenyoureinstallthesoftware,thesystemautomatically
synchronizesthetwoRAIDdrives,recreatingtheoriginalmirroredRAIDarray(manual
rebuildnotrequired).

Using the DP600
2.2 Starting the System for the First Time
TheDP600touchscreenprovidesauser‐friendlyinterfacewhereyouperformactionsby
pressingtherespectivescreenarea.Thetouchscreeniscalibratedduringthe
manufacturingprocess.
WhenyoustarttheDP600forthefirsttime,theDP600Welcome!screenappears,which
providesachecklistofthingsyouneedbeforeyoucansetupthesystem,asshownin
Figure 2‐3.

Toconfigurethesystem:
1. BesureyouarereadytoproceedbycheckingtheWelcome!screen,thenpressthe
rightarrowatthebottomofthescreen.
TheNetworkscreenappears,asshownintheexampleinFigure 2‐4.Beforeyousetup
thesystem,theIPaddressappearsonlyifyouenterastaticIPaddress(DHCP
unchecked).Ifyou’reusingDHCP,theIPaddressdoesnotappearuntilyoucomplete
thesystemsetup.
Caution: Beforestartingthesystem,besureit’sconnectedtoanactivenetwork.
Note: Inthisscreen,andinallthefollowingDP600setupscreens,youenter
informationtoconfigureyoursystem.Ifyoupressthecancelbuttonat
thebottomleftcornerofanyofthefollowingsetupscreens,thesystem
cancelsallofyourentries(inallthesetupscreens,inadditiontothe
currentlydisplayedsetupscreen).Acancelconfirmpromptappears.
Ifyouconfirm,theunitcancelsyourentriesandautomaticallyreboots,
andthentheWelcome!screenreappears.Atthispoint,youcanreenter
yoursettings.
