Zephyr Operating Instructions

Zephyr by Dry & Store®is for household use. When using electrical products, especially when children
are present, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including:

Zephyroperatesatatemperaturerangeof97°to104°F(36°to40°C).Itwillfunctionproperly
atindoorambienttemperaturesfrom65°to80°F(18°to27°C).

Introduction
Useddaily,Zephyrremovesdamagingmoistureaccumulation,driesearwaxandremovesodors.Zephyr
canmakehearinginstrumentssoundbetter,anditcanalsoextendzinc-airbatterylifeinhighhumidity
locations.
Preparation for Use (Important)
1. Activate the desiccant: AdisposableDry-Brik®,whichmustbereplaced
everytwomonths,canbefoundintheaccessorybox.Usingthepulltab,
removethefoilcover,whichactivates thedesiccant(Figure 1).Do not
removethefoiluntilyouarereadytousetheDry-Brik,becauseonceitis
removedtheDry-Brikwillbeginadsorbingmoisture.
2. Start the Timestrip®: To alert you when it is time for replacement,
aTimestrip® timing device is attached to each Dry-Brik. Start the timer
byrmlypressingdownonthebubbleinthemiddle(Figure 2).Youmay
alsouseabluntobjectsuchastheeraserendofapenciltopressonthe
bubble(Figure 3).Do not use a sharp object to start the Timestrip! This
willreleaseadyeintothetimerwindow.NOTE:Startingthetimerdoes
NOTactivatetheDry-Brik.Itisactivatedwhenthefoilisremoved.
WhentheTimestriphasbeensuccessfullystarted,athinverticallinewill
appear on the left within ve minutes. If this line does not appear, try
again. (IfyouhavetroublestartingtheTimestrip,markthestartingdateor
endingdateontheDry-Brikcontainerandreplaceitatthe60-daymark.)
Eachdaytheredlinewillgetalittlelonger(fastatthestart,sloweras
itapproachestheend),andattheendoftwomonths,thetimerwindow
willbecompletelyred.ReplaceitwithanewDry-Brikatthattime,and
depositthedepletedDry-Brikinhouseholdrefuse.
3. Place the activated Dry-Brik in Zephyr (Figure 4).
4. Connect the AC adapter:PlugtheACadapterintoanon-switchedelectricaloutlet,thentthesmall
circular plug into the rear of the unit.

Operating Your Zephyr
1. Wipe excess moisture and earwax from your hearing aids before placing them in the front of the
dryingtray.Youmayleavethebatteriesin,butopenthebatterycovertoallowforaircirculation.

2. ChecktheTimestripontheDry-Brikbeforeeachuse.Ifthethintimerwindowiscompletelyred,the
Dry-Brikshouldbereplaced.
3. Closethelidandpresstheo n /o f f buttonontherightsideoftheunit.Thegreenindicatorwillilluminate
forthedurationoftheeight-hourcycle,afterwhichtheunitwillturnoffautomatically.Zephyrcan
also be turned off by pressing the o n /o f f buttonasecondtime.BestresultscomefromanentireZephyr
cycle,butdryingwilloccurfromperiodsasshortasonehour.
Using Zephyr with Cochlear Implant Equipment
Behind-the-earprocessorsandotherimplanthardwaremustbekeptdrytofunctionproperly. Regular
Zephyrusecanalsomakeasignicantdifferenceinzinc-airbatterylife,especiallyinhotandhumid
weather.(Individualresultsmayvary.)Leavezinc-airbatteriesintheprocessor(whereapplicable)but
removethebatterycover.Placetheprocessor,headpieceandcableinthefrontcompartmentandfollow
the instructions for use to the left.
General Product Care
DonotoperateZephyrinhigh-humiditylocationssuchasabathroom.Keepthelidclosedatalltimes,
becausetheeffectivenessoftheDry-Brikwillbereducedduetomoistureadsorptionfromthesurrounding
air.Cleansurfaceswithasoftcloth.Neverusestrongcleaningagentsorabrasives.Donotsprayany
liquidintothetray.
Troubleshooting Zephyr Problems
Unit will not start (no green light is visible after pressing• o n /o f f button): Make sure that the o n /o f f
buttonhasbeenrmlypushed.VerifythattheACadapterissecurelyconnectedtoboththerearofthe
unitandtheoutlet/mains.Istheoutlet/mainscontrolledbyawallswitch?Ifstillnosuccess,tryanother
ACadapter(availablefromtheplaceofpurchase,atwww.dryandstore.com,orfromaservicecenter).
ReplaceitonlywithanACadapterprovidedbythemanufacturer.
Unit is noisy• :Checkforanyobstructionblockingthefan.Ifstillnoisy,thefanmustbereplaced.
Green light is on, but unit is not drying properly• : Has the Dry-Brik been replaced regularly? It is
importantthatitbereplacedeverytwomonthsaccordingtotheinstructions.Checkforfanmovement.
Ifnofansoundcanbeheard,returntheunittotheplaceofpurchaseorservicecenterforevaluation.

Operating Features

out of the air, ensuring continuous dry operation.

Desiccant
AdisposableDry-Brik®,whichmustbereplacedeverytwomonths,isincludedwitheachZephyr.(See
PreparationsforUseonpage4.)
Rechargeable Canister Desiccant (optional)
A small number of international configurations are shipped with an optional metal canister desiccant
insteadofaDry-Brik.Theprotectivelabelshouldberemovedfrombothsidesbeforeuse.Asmoisture
isadsorbedbythedesiccant,theindicatorwillchangefromorange(good)togreen(bad),orfromblue
(good) to light pink (bad), depending on the model. The color change signals that the desiccant can
nolongeradsorbmoisture.Torestorefunction,placethemetalcaninaconventionalovenfor3hours
ormoreatatemperatureof105°-150°C(225°-300°F).Thecolorwillchangebacktoorangeorblue.
Warning: Never place metal in a microwave oven! After recharging, allow the hot metal can to cool
before use. Best results will occur if the can is covered by a glass during the cooling period.
