1. OVERVIEW
1.1 INTRODUCTION
- MOTOSCAN is a small motorcycle & Scooter scanner. It researched and
manufactured by DTDAuto Technology Team, Institute of Physics, Vietnam
Academy of Science and Technology since 2013.
- MOTOSCAN used for motorbike repair workshops and motorbike technical
vocational training to determine fault and repair electronic & electrical
system for most motorbikes and scooters in Asia market and some other
market with electronic control system for starting, fuel injection, ignition,
ABS, Smart key, ODO, ECU…
- MOTOSCAN is used for diagnosing fault, repair fault for Engine & ABS
system; automatic programming smart key system; automatic test ECU
inside, automatic engine technical analyzing, intelligent diagnosing without
OBD fault code , ODO value correction, ECU signal simulating,
programming and upgrading standard software of manufacturer inside
ECM, SCU… and many special measurement functions, full-featured for
professional motorbike repair workshop.
- Since 2020, MOTOSCAN has supported advanced function that
communicate with SCU system (Smart key Control Unit) to solve
requirements of automatic smart key programming in case of registration a
new key, lost of the keys, replacing SCU, replacing ECM, copy, restoring
and editing SCU data.
- In particular, with MOTOBOX advance accessory, MOTOSCAN can correct
true odometer value, reprogram ECM, simulate ECU signals, test fault
inside ECU (ECU tester) ... to repair advanced problems in electronic
systems of a new generation motorbikes/scooters.
- MOTOSCAN has supported advanced functions that used diagnosis
solution by analyzing auto data. It can find hard faults that MIL lamp does
not indicate such as: Idling Stop mode trouble, down power when
accelerate, over idle speed, more fuel consumption, weak engine, hard
start and mechanical faults that common diagnostic tools cannot execute.
- Support programming, adjusting and setting parameters in ECU as
electronic key programming, zero point programming of TPS, and air/fuel
ratio programming, idle speed and pulse bandwidth adjustment to control

- A gift MOTODATA software for 01 year (you need pay renewal fee for
the next years) that used to lookup motorbike repair data for PIAGGIO,
HONDA, YAMAHA, SUZUKI, SYM, KYMCO. MOTODATA supports Android,
iOS, and Windows devices as smart phone, Tablet, computer, laptop. In
particular, it integrated workshop management function that helps you
mange orders, customers, inventory, financial…

 FUNCTION 1: DETERMINE FAULT
1. Read, clear fault codes stored in ECUs of engine system and ABS
system
2. Find complex faults that MIL lamp does not indicate such as:

 FUNCTION 2: REPAIR FAULT
1. Automatically program smart key for HONDA, YAMAHA, SUZUKI:
- Read all KEYID# and ECMID from vehicle SCU
- Program smart key directly with vehicle or without vehicle (SCU is not
installed on vehicle) for cases:
+ Register more FOB# for all of cases
+ Register FOB# when lost all of the FOB#
+ Delete KEYID in SCU memory

+ Synchronize SCU & ECM for all of cases
+ Inactivate FOB# code in SCU when lost FOB#

- Restore SCU data from sample data for HONDA (this function used to
repair software inside SCU when SCU data is fault)
- Copy data from source SCU to destination SCU for all motorbikes that

repair, swap SCU when have SCU hardware/software fault)
- Quick sync SCU & ECM (without FOB) for HONDA: SH, PCX, X-ADV... and

Initialize and repair data errors, upgrade the versions of MCU, EEPROM
5. Calibrate and set control parameters in the ECM:
- Calibrate air/fuel ratio (AFR): YAMAHA, PIAGGIO/VESPA (it also support
GILERA, APRILIA, DERBI, PEUGEOT, which use similar ECMs), SYM
- Reset to manufacturer value of ECM: HONDA, YAMAHA, PIAGGIO/VESPA
(it also support GILERA, APRILIA, DERBI, PEUGEOT, which use similar
ECMs)
- Offset zero point value and set range of throttle position sensor for
PIAGGIO/VESPA (it also support GILERA, APRILIA, DERBI, PEUGEOT, which
use similar ECMs)
- Reset IACV: HONDA, YAMAHA, PIAGGIO/VESPA (it also support GILERA,
APRILIA, DERBI, PEUGEOT, which use similar ECMs), KYMCO
- Adjust pulse band width to control fuel injectors (Ti) and idle speed:

1. Fast measure and assess capacity, quality of battery

3. Measure the air/fuel ratio (A/F) to assess the instantaneous fuel
consumption
4. Measure engine speed (RPM) for all carburetor and PGM-FI/FI with DIY
ECU motorbikes
5. Emulate the signals on motorcycle for fault diagnosis, ECU hardware

 FUNCTION 4: INFORMATION WITH MOTODATA SOFTWARE
1. Show the current firmware version of ECM and ACU
2. Look up the acronym, position of signal pins for systems: ECM, SCU,
ACU, ODO, IMMO, SMART KEY
3. Look up electrical wiring diagram: principle diagram, schematic assembly
and specified conditions
4. Look up the process assembly, repair, maintenance mechanic, oil
warning lamp reset
5. Manage repair workshop: customer, financial, store, treasury, employees
6. Update version of data software and firmware via Internet

2.3 CONNECTING WIRE FOR SPECIAL FUNCTIONS (CHECK
BATTERY, GENERATOR)
3. FUNCTIONS
3.1 READ FAULT CODES FROM ECU
This function used to read fault codes stored in ECU of PGM-FI /FI
motorcycles, reading fault codes though data link connector (DLC).
Step 1: Turn off ignition key
Step 2: Connect DLC cable to MOTOSCAN machine
Step 3: Connect DLC cable to DLC connector of motorcycle follow guide
Step 4: Turn on ignition key
Step 5: Press start pedal or start button for crank spin about 10
sec. or more
Step 6: Select “CONNECT TO VEHICLE” menu from main interface of the
screen then press “Enter/ OK” button. The screen displays list of
motorcycle brands.

Step 7: Select brand name to read fault codes (Example: HONDA) then
press “Enter/ OK” button. Check instructions on the screen. Press “Shift
Down” button to view more information then press “Enter/ OK” button.
The screen displays list of markets of HONDA brand. If you select HONDA
Viet Nam then you select “VIET NAM” menu then press “Select/ OK”
Step 8: The screen displays models of brand. Select a model of motorcycle
for reading codes (Example: LEAD 110). Press “Enter/ OK” button, the
screen displays function table:

Step 9: Select “READ CODE” menu then press “Enter/ OK” to view
codes and content of fault. The screen will display as below:
You follow the instructions on screen then press “Select/ OK”, the screen
display current code fault of motorcycle:
If the screen display as below then press “Select/ YES” to execute
detailed diagnosis by electric wiring diagram:
NOTES:
You view and execute as instructions on the screen then press “Select/
OK” button until the end result screen shows.

Enter “07A” fault code into MOTODATA software to view code fault content
and fault position on electronic wiring diagram.
After execute “Read code” if ECU has not stored fault codes then the screen
displays as below:
NOTES:
- Now, this function used for HONDA, YAMAHA PGM/FI-FI motorcycles. Next
update, it will support for other brands.
- This function uses event-driven advanced diagnostic solution. It can find
hard faults that MIL lamp does not indicate.
Press “Enter/ YES” button, the screen will be displayed list of troubles that
your motorcycle can occur:

Press “Shift Down and Up” button to view list of troubles.
Press “Enter/ OK” button to select a trouble that your motorcycles is
occurring, next you do the steps following instruction on the screen until
the end result screen shows.
3.2 CLEAR FAULT CODES IN ECU MEMORY
This function used to clear fault codes stored in the ECU to complete the
repair or delete virtual fault codes stored in the ECU memory.
Step 1: From the screen displays models of brand, select a model of the
motorcycle (Example: LEAD 110) then press "Enter/ OK" button. The
screen displays function table.
Step 2: Press “Shift Down and Up” button to select "CLEAR CODE”
menu then press “Enter/ OK" button.

If you sure that you want to clear fault codes, press the "Enter/ OK"
button.
If you do not want to clear fault codes, please press "Exit / Cancel"
button.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
After the repairs and parts replacement, you need to run motorcycle in the
loading, fast speed of engine about 15 minutes to heat the engine. Read
fault codes more times, if fault codes still show on MOTOSCAN, means your
repairs not completed, you need to review.
If not any fault codes show on MOTOSCAN then repair you have done.
Check results with the scanner again if necessary...
3.3 RESTORE SOFTWARE IN ECU
Now, this function supports for HONDA, PIAGGIO motorcycles. It used to
restore software in ECU to manufacturer’s original state. When you execute
this function, you need execute in accordance with the instructions on
screen of MOTOSCAN. Especially, you need start engine for 10 minutes
after restoring to have ralenti again.
Step 1: From the screen displays models of brand. Select a model of the
motorcycle (Example: LEAD 110) then press "Enter/ OK" button. The
screen displays function table.
Step 2: Press “Shift Down and Up” button to select "RESTORE ECU”
menu then press “Enter/ OK" button.

3.4 VIEW LIVE DATA
This function used for the purpose of inspection and analysis of input signal
circuit (INPUT) of the ECU to determine difficult fault that OBD automatic
mode cannot be determined.

motorcycle to view live data (Example: LEAD 110) then press "Enter/ OK"
button. The screen displays function table.

3.5 ACTIVE/RESET ACTUATORS
Now, this function supports for HONDA, PIAGGIO motorcycles. It used to
active, check and analyse output signal circuit (OUTPUT) of the ECU and
actuators to determine difficult faults OBD diagnostic mode cannot be
determined.
Step 1: From the screen display models of brand, select a model to active
actuators (Example: Vespa LX 125 MIUG3). Press “Enter/ OK” button, the
screen displays function table.
Step 2: Select the "ACTIVATE TEST" menu to activate and test the
actuators then press “Enter/ OK” button.
Step 3: The screen displays list of actuators. Choose an actuator to enable
activation (Example: RESET IACV) then press “Enter/ OK” button.
