INTRODUCTION
The DTronics DT7 Programmer was designed to give the DX/TX user the
programming possibilities of an analogue synth.
This makes FM-programming easier, more intuitive and more fascinating.
It works with the YAMAHA DX-7, TX-7, DX-5,DX-1, TX-802, TX816 (TF-1)

MANUAL
1SETUP
Intended use
The DT7 is intended for DX/TX user to create more programming
possibilities and give the user the feeling of an analogue synth.
It is recommended to disconnect the DT7 from your synth when playing
your synth over midi. The DX7 is an old instrument from the beginning
of midi. It sometimes can’t handle large amounts of midi data.
Box content
Please ensure that your DT7 includes the following:
•DT7 Programmer
•Din Male-Male MIDI Cable
•9VDc power supply
MIDI Connections IN / OUT
The messages fed into the MIDI IN of the DT-01 is mixed with the sound
editing messages created in the DT7, and the mixed message
is sent through MIDI OUT.

2Operation
POWER UP
To use the programmer with your DX, simply connect it’s MIDI-OUT to
your synths MIDI-In.The Programmer ‘s MIDI-IN should be connect
with your Master Keyboard or sequencer. Although there’s a MIDI-IN, it
is not necessarily to make a connection to it for running the DX-
programmer.
SET MIDI CHANNEL
The MIDI-IN merges all incoming data for using the DX-Programmer
with a sequences or other devices running. The receiving instruments
(the DX/TX) must always be set to MIDI-Channel 1.
MIDI LOOPS
To avoid MIDI-loops, never connect the DX’s MIDI-OUT to the
programmers MIDI-IN. Never send any other Sys-EX data to the DX-
Programmers IN while editing!
DATA SPEED
It is recommended to disconnect the DT7 from your synth when playing
your synth over midi. The DX7 is an old instrument from the beginning
of midi. It sometimes can’t handle large amounts of midi data. The DT7
has a DATA SPEED knob, turn it to the right to slow down midi
messages from the DT7.

3Operation
POWERING ON & OFF
After turning the power switch on back of the Programmer on, the INIT-
Swich LED must light up and the display shows the firmware version.
Sys-Info-Avail setting
Then turn on your DX/TX and set the option ‘Sys-Info’ to ‘avail’.
On the DX7, This is done with pressing the Function switch and then
pressing the Program No. 8 switch. (For more information of the Sys-Info-
Avail setting on the other possible devices refer to the YAMAHA manual).
Now you can start editing any parameter, and if you have ten or more
hands, all at the same time.
DATA SPEED
Because the operating system of the DX-7 (especially older ones) is a bit
slow, it can be handy to adjust the DATA SPEED knob a bit. At startup, the
data speed is always set to an initial value.
The DX-7 is not a true realtime synth, and so you always have to press a
key first before listening to any sound changes because of this behavior, a
sequencer running a slow sequence is highly recommended. Newer models
like the TH-802 or DX7-iiFD can be edited in real time.
For the TX-216/816 it is not possible to set the LIMIT-LOW and LIMIT-HIGH
with the programmer. Please refer to the YAMAHA manual for more
information about this parameters.
The INIT switch will create an INIT patch on the DX-7
The DUMP switch will dump ALL parameters from the DT7

4Troubleshooting
Because of the slow operating system of the DX as described earlier, it
sometimes may no longer respond to parameter changes and hookup. This
can happen especially when used with a fast sequencer tempo and/or very
short notes or turning some knobs fast on the DT7.
In this case, simply turn of both devices and turn them on again. Adjust the
DATA SPEED knob as described earlier.
Make sure to set the option ‘Sys-Info’ to ‘avail’ on your DX7 or nothing will
happen.
