Tools to Rig Your Duffy
You will nee d :
•Trim knife
•Allen sockets or Allen wrenches
•Needle nose pliers
•Rubber mallet
Recommended (But not required):
•Electric Tape
•Loctite™
Using an Allen socket set up
will save you time, but you can
use a regular Allen wrench.

We recommend using
a little electrical tape
and Loctite™ but it is
not mandatory.

Needle nose pliers

Using a trim knife, cut between the
frame tube and the deck all the
way around the boat. Pull the
wrap away from the boat when
cutting so you don’t scratch the
fiberglass surface.
Cut Shrink Wrap (from shipping)

Cut the tie wraps from the hold down brackets so
you can lift off the frame. Two people can easily
lift and set the frame down on the ground.
Remove the hold down brackets and save the screws. You can
re-use the hold down brackets so you may want to save them
for the future.
Remove Surrey Frame

Removing everything inside will allow you to move easier to install the metal frame and
surrey fabric top.
Locate the top legs wrapped item and
open.
Remove Items From Inside Boat

Use your 3/16 Allen socket or
wrench.
Each leg base has a number on the
bottom. The numbers go from 1 –
10. Start with number one on the
port side most forward location.
Then number two will be directly
behind number one and so on
around the boat. The number 16
represents a Duffy 16 boat model.
Leg number 1 starts here.
Secure each fastener snuggly. Anti-Seize
material has been previously put on the
threaded plate that is under the deck. This
will allow you to remove the top in the
future.
Install the Top Legs

You will NOT
be installing
these two legs
until AFTER
the frame has
been put on
the other legs.
Locate the small plastic bag taped
to the surrey frame. You will see
the small set screws for the top
frame and three extra screws for
the legs incase you loose any.
Install the Top Legs (continued)

Set the frame against
the boat. Have two
people inside the boat
and one outside. The
outside person can
easily start the frame
up while the two inside
assist. Guide the
sockets onto the legs
one by one. Don’t
need to have leg seat
all the way down into
the socket at this time.
Just want to have it
safely holding up on
the eight legs.
You will need your 1/8 “ Allen
wrench or Allen socket, needle
nose pliers, and rubber mallet.
Install The Top Frame to The Legs

Two of the legs will
require you to fish the
wire that is on the
frame down through
the leg.
You may find it easier to
use your needle nose pliers
for pulling the wire out
through the bottom hole.
Connect the wires
from the boat to the
frame. Make sure you
connect the yellow to
the yellow wire. Wrap
some electrical tape if
you like.
Push the wires and connectors
through the hole and then secure the
leg using the fasteners. Wrap some
electrical tape over connectors if you
wish.
Install The Top Frame to The Legs (continued)

Pull down hard on each socket onto
the let and use the rubber mallet to
insure the let is at the bottom of the
socket. Failure to do so will result in
the windows not fitting properly!
You may want to install some
Loctite™ material on each set
screw.
Install the 1/8 inch set
screws that were in
the bag tapped to the
surrey frame. Tighten
snuggly for a secure
fit. Notice that we
are using two in the
four corners. Please
install ALL the set
screws. High winds
can remove the top!
Installing the Frame to Legs (final steps)

Careful when using your
trim knife on this box you
may cut the surrey!
Find the Velcro flaps on the top.
This is the rear of the top.
Lay the top on the frame as shown.
Start at the rear and go over the stern
light.
Installing The Fabric Surrey Top

Spread the top on the frame as
shown. Secure one corner first then
go to the opposite corner and
secure. Never secure more than
one or two Velcro tabs per side
before going over to the other side.
You can always come back later and
re-adjust a bit but it’s best to go
from side to side pulling the valence
over the tube and then securing the
Velcro tab.
The zippered forward and aft stripes
are needed in case of super heavy
winds. We install the zipper in case
you want to enjoy the sun you don’t
have to unlace the flap to peel back
the top.
Installing The Fabric Surrey Top (continued)

Do not open with your trim knife.
The window panels are marked
on the inside with numbers 1
through 10. When installing the
numbers and lettering should
be facing INSIDE THE BOAT.
Loop the strap over the tube
and back into the plastic
fitting. The port forward
window is number one and
number two window is
directly behind it and so on
all the way around.
Make sure the bottom of
the window covers the
plastic track completely.
Push the zipper ends to the back of the
tube as shown. Do not run the zipper
all the way out. Stop at the top tube.
Installing The Window System

Install bottom Velcro
strip as shown.
Remove the Velcro located on the surrey
top edge. The strip was installed to make
it easier for you to put the windows up.
This Velcro will seal the surrey to the
window flange keeping water out.
Installing Bottom Velcro & Removing Top Velcro Strip

Turn ON the main battery
switch. You only need this
switch when transporting.
Turning it to the OFF position
will not allow the batteries
to charge.
Duffy 16 Back Bay switch is in battery box. All other models switch
is under seat on port side.
Locate information in bag around steering wheel. Main
on off switch location and motor support bracket
removal instructions.
This is the transport bracket. Note
keys are tie wrapped to the bracket.
Important Things To-Do Before
Operating Boat

PLEASE READ
Locate a 120 Volt power outlet and plug in your Duffy after you finish the rigging
process. Batteries do not come fully charged. Confirm charger is working by
looking at the charge indicator light on the dash. Check the main AC panel on
the boat if light does not illuminate. Confirm power outlet is working. Charge
overnight or for at least 12 hours before using the boat.
Battery performance will increase after several charge cycles. Never leave the
boat unplugged when not in use.
