Supplemental Manual
For Generating Hypochlorous Acid (HOCl)
How to Generate HOCl
The purpose of this supplemental manual is to explain
how to generate higher concentrations of HOCl using
less salt and to present several options for optimizing
the pH to between pH 5 and pH 7.
1. Add 1 Liter of reverse osmosis water (RO water should have pH <6)
If RO water is unavailable, use purified water or tap water and lower
the pH by choosing one of the following methods:
a) Add 1 teaspoon of 5% distilled vinegar - or -
b) Add 1 drop of muriatic acid (32% HCl) *
2. Add 1 gram of salt . May also use as little as 1/2 gram.**
3. Place on lid and plug-in the power supply ***
4. Run Setting 3 once (8 minutes) to generate ~100 ppm
Run Setting 3 twice (16 minutes) to generate ~200 ppm
Each additional run on setting 3 will increase the
concentration by 60-80 ppm for a maximum of 5 total runs.

Setting 1 – System runs for 3 minutes
*Personal protective gear is required when using muriatic acid. '
This is the same muriatic acid that is used to lower the pH of pools.
** Salt must be food grade salt (NaCl) without iodine (ie. kosher salt). When using
less than 1 gram of salt, it may be required to run 1 extra cycle of 8 minutes.
*** Power supply must be dry
Generating Electrolyzed
Water for Cleaning &
Degreasing
Generates potassium hydroxide (KOH) with an
ORP between -100 and -300.
1. Add tap water (or purified water) up to the 1 Liter mark
2. Add 2 grams of potassium carbonate *
3. Place lid and plug-in the power supply **
4. Power On to Setting 3 to generate KOH in 8 minutes
* Use only the potassium carbonate additive.
** Power supply must be dry Measuring
Hypochlorous
Acid (HOCl) Solutions
THINGS TO KNOW:
•The molecular formula for hypochlorous acid is HOCl
•HOCl is a free chlorine molecule that can be measured with chlorine test paper
•HOCl is most dominant in a chlorine solution between pH 4and 6
HOW TO MEASURE THE CONCENTRATION OF HYPOCHLOROUS ACID
Chlorine test paper provides a simple, reliable, and economical means to measure the concentration of free
chlorine in sanitizing solutions. With color matches at 10, 50, 100 and 200 ppm, the test paper measures
concentrations between 10 and 200 ppm. In the food industry, federal, state and local health regulations
require users of chlorine-based sanitizer solutions to have appropriate test kits available to verify the
strength of sanitizer solutions.

1. Keep out of reach of children.
2. Store additives in a clean and dry location.
3. Only use normal tap water or purified water.
4. If the unit becomes damaged or leaks, immediately
disconnect from the power supply at the wall.
5. Do not immerse the system into water. Do not clean
in a dishwasher.
6. To clean unit, rinse only with tap water.
7. The unit can cause electric shock if not used properly.
8. Empty the pitcher after use and rinse with tap water.
