1. APPLICATION
Reverse osmosis process is one of the most advanced technologies of water puricaon. Reverse
osmosis lter uses a special semipermeable membrane similar in its structure and properes to the
membrane of a living cell. It can be conceived of as having ny pores that are 200 mes smaller
than viruses and 4000 mes smaller than most bacteria. The principle of reverse osmosis water pu-
ricaon is modelled aer living cell’s natural water cycle. It allows purifying drinking water from all
harmful impuries, including nitrates and viruses (see Figure 1 below). Only molecules of a certain
size can penetrate through cellular membrane.
Ecoso RObust is a high recovery direct ow operaon capable reverse osmosis system. The system
can be equipped with a pressure tank for increasing puried water ow rate, and its mulstage
design allows obtaining a high recovery up to 50%.
The system is tapped in water mains using feed adapter and feed valve. Tube is run from feed valve
to the inlet port in system’s port rack (labeled). The port rack also includes connecon ports for the
drain, pressure tank 6 (if used), and puried water faucet 1 or puried water pipe. Feed water rst
undergoes pre-ltraon in the sediment and carbon pre-lters where it is stripped of suspended
parcles (rust, sand, hemp strands etc.), organic color and chlorine compounds. Pressure gauge no.
1 on front panel displays water pressure aer the pre-lter.

Technological scheme of RObust 1000 is shown in Figure 2. Aer the pre-lters, the pressure
booster pump feeds the water to the reverse osmosis membrane array with two membrane
modules. Permeate from both modules goes to the permeate collector, and concentrate from the
1st and 2nd modules goes to the 3rd one. Second stage permeate goes to the permeate collector, and
the concentrate is discarded to drain via concentrate ow restrictor and drain port in port rack.
Pressure gauge no. 2 shows pressure between the 2nd and 3rd membranes. Permeate goes to the
puried water line or pressure tank (if installed), passing through the carbon post-lter. Puried
water line may go to puried water faucet or be connected with some other consumer appliance.
High-pressure switch installed before the post-lter reads pressure in permeate line and starts the
reverse osmosis system when it drops (due to taking of some water from the pressure tank or
opening puried water faucet). When the system switches on, entry solenoid valve is opened and
booster pump is powered up, which allows to feed water into the system. When puried water
stops being drawn from the system, pressure starts to build up and closes high-pressure switch
switching o the system.

RObust 3000 system has low feed water pressure protecon implemented with a low-pressure
switch, which prevents the pump and solenoid from operang if feed pressure is less than
0.4 bar (5.8 psi). Two pressure gauges on the front panel show operang pressure in the system,
which allows diagnosing potenal and occurring problems.

4. INSTALLATION STEPS
4.1. INSTALLATION CONDITIONS AND PACKAGE COMPLETENESS CHECK
4.2. INSTALLATION
Carefully read this manual before installing the reverse osmosis system.
CAUTION!
This product has been factory tested for leaks, and may contain residual moisture.
Before installaon of tubing, lters, and membranes, wash your hands with anbacterial soap.
Ensure that the installaon place is shielded from the direct sunlight and removed from heang
appliances.
— check other parameters of the technical specicaon (secon 2.1);
— check that feed water meets requirements shown in secon 2.2.
If the water quality does not meet requirements, refer to a water treatment specialist company

3) Before proceeding with the installaon, ensure there is enough space for the assembled system.
If using pressure tank, provide room for it as well. In case of shortage of space, pressure tank can
be removed to the distance of connecng tube length.
4) Install the reverse osmosis system in accordance with below procedure.
*If any of the parameters does not meet the requirement, consult secon 2.1 for possible correcve
acon.
1) Check that all components of the reverse osmosis system (see secon 2.3) are inside the package.
Do not open the plasc bag before you make sure it contains all parts. Missing part claims will not
be accepted if the package is broken.
2) Ensure that your ulies meet this product’s requirements:
 
Test water pressure at the tapping point. It must
comply with the specicaon in secon 2.1.
Test water temperature and verify
compliance with specicaon in secon 2.1.

1Remove the reverse osmosis system from the box and check that all parts are inside the
bag. Do not open the bag before verifying. You will not be able to claim missing parts if the
bag is opened.
2Shut o the water supply in place of installaon and open a water tap for 1 minute to re-
lieve pressure in the system. Then close the tap.
3Tap feed adapter 4 into the cold water plumbing. In-
stall feed valve into the feed adapter. To avoid leaks
use PTFE seal tape.
The adapter size ts the most common ½″ pipe. If
your pipe has another size, install an appropriate
ng piece.
4Unscrew compression nut from the feed valve
tube connecon. Slip red tube through the nut and
connect it to the feed valve tube connecon, then
screw compression nut back on ll snug. Connect
the other end of the red tube to the inlet port of
the RO system’s port rack. Push tube all the way to
the tube stop when making push-t connecons.
5Drain saddle 5 ts most standard drain pipe. Install
the drain saddle on drain pipe as follows. Bore 5 mm
(0.2″) hole in the drain pipe, apply rubber gasket
with scky base (included in the package). Install
drain saddle on top of the gasket so that push-t t-
ng in the saddle is located precisely above the hole
in the drain pipe. Tighten nuts on drain saddle fas-
teners with a wrench. Insert black tube in the push-
t ng in drain saddle. Connect the other end of
the black tube with drain port of the RO system’s
push-t port rack.

6Put a few turns of PTFE tape on tank nipple thread.
Screw tank valve on the tank nipple. Turn the valve
fully o.
NOTE! Test air pressure in the empty tank bladder
(remove the cap on the lateral boom to access
valve stem). Reading should be 0.6–1.0 bar (8.7–
14.5 psi). If necessary, use the air pump to inate the
bladder. If pressure is too high already, push on the
valve stem’s core to relieve it.
7Install the faucet.
7.1 To install puried water faucet 8 bore a hole with di-
ameter of 12.5 mm (0.49″) in the desired locaon on
sink or coun tertop.
CAUTION! Metal shavings can damage your sink, re-
move them carefully once you have nished drilling.
If the mounng surface is stone or ceramic, use a
carbide drill bit.
7.2 Mount the faucet over the hole on top of small rub-
ber washer, chrome plated base, and large rubber
washer. Fix the faucet rmly with plasc washer, lock
washer, and nut put on the faucet shank underneath
sink surface.
7.3 Put compression nut on the free end of the blue
tube, then put on the ferrule and the insert inside
the tube.
7.4 Push the end of the blue tube inside the shank
boom a few cenmeter deeper, seat the ferrule
against shank boom and the screw compression
nut snugly on shank thread. The faucet should now
be rmly xed on the top of sink, and the blue tube
ghtly seated in compression ng at the boom of
the faucet shank.
8Remove 1st and 2nd pre-lter housings (le to right), put the polypropylene lter in the rst
bowl, carbon lter in the second.
9Install the housings back on the system frame. Hand ghten only.
10 Prepare a suitable water container. Remove feed water tubes from the two rst stage mem-
brane housings and place the free ends in the prepared container. Open main shuto valve
and the system feed valve to start rinsing pre-lters. Collect running water in the container
and discard when full. Repeat unl there are no carbon nes in the rinse water. Install the
free tube ends back in push-t ngs in membrane housings and lock with locking clips.

11 Install carbon post-lter.
12 Install all membranes in membrane housings.
CAUTION! When installing reverse osmosis mem-
brane, do not take it out of the bag. Cut the bag at
the opposite end to membrane’s brine seal, push the
membrane inside membrane housing. Do not touch
membrane surface at any me.
13 Open feed valve and puried water faucet for 30 minutes to rinse membranes and other
parts of the system. Do not open tank valve at this me. Close the puried water faucet and
check all connecons for leaks.
CAUTION!

main valve to remove water supply to the system.
14 Open tank valve and let the system ll it. The system will switch o when the tank is full.
Open puried water faucet and discard the rst tankful of puried water. When the tank is
drained empty, close the puried water faucet and let the system rell the tank. The water
can be used now.
* Skip steps 6 and 14 if installing a tankless system.

6. OPERATION
1. Use calibrated TDS meter to test total dissolved solids in tap and puried water.
Write down the readings in the maintenance log.
2. Verify proper funconing of feed water solenoid. The system must switch o and stop
discharging concentrate when pressure tank is full* and puried water faucet is closed.
3. Inspect the system carefully for leaks.
4. Advise the system’s owner how to operate and maintain the system, refer to this manual.
5. Make a record of system installaon in the maintenance log.
6*. When using a pressure tank, note that the tank is full when high-pressure switch is
acvated, pump switches o and concentrate stops running to drain. The me to ll the tank
depends on water pressure at the tapping point.
RObust should be used for puricaon of cold water only. If puried water ow rate has decreased
or tank is taking longer than normal to ll, the likelihood is that pre-lter is clogged and need to be
replaced as soon as possible.
Delayed replacement of pre-lters can result in damage or failure of the membranes. In order to
avoid this, it is recommended to replace pre-lters at least once in three months of connuous use.
If puried water ow rate drops signicantly and is not caused by pre-lter wear or abnormal op-
erang condions, the array of membranes has to be replaced. For best puried water quality,
replace membranes at least once a year.
If the system is to be out of operaon for two weeks or longer, sanize the system as described in
secon 7. When disconnuing use of the system, it is recommended to shut o the water supply.
   st   If pressure aer pre-lters is less than 1 bar
(14.5 psi), this may indicate low mains pressure or clogged pre-lters. Test pressure at the feed
adapter site. If it exceeds reading on the pressure gauge signicantly, replace pre-lters. Otherwise,
low feed water pressure is at fault and has to be sorted out. If the 1st pressure gauge displays over 5 bar
(72.5 psi) aer the system switches on, power down the system immediately, disconnect water sup-
ply, and install a pressure regulator upstream of the system. Then, connue seng up the system.
Maximum recommended feed water pressure is 3.5 bar (51 psi).

nd. If operang pressure in the membrane array
is lower than 4 bar (58 psi) or amounts to feed water pressure, this can be caused by any of the
following:
• motor power supply fault (possibly due to broken/torn pump motor cord);
• air trapped inside pump’s chamber;
• jamming of the pump with solids such as carbon nes (if carbon lter was not properly washed
before use).
Generally, if the value of operang pressure on the 2nd pressure gauge falls below its normal range,
contact your dealer’s service. If pressure on the 2nd pressure gauge is over 7 bar (101.5 psi), this
could be due to pressure regulator failure or the RO system’s high-pressure switch fault. Contact
your dealer’s service for help.



6.2. FILTER REPLACEMENT
6.3. MEMBRANE REPLACEMENT
1Open puried water faucet while the system is plugged in, close feed water valve, close
pressure tank valve (if installed).
2Wash your hands with anbacterial soap thoroughly.
3Aer water has stopped running from puried water faucet, unplug the RO system from
the mains and screw o three lter housings. Take care as the bowls will be full of water.
4Remove spent lters.
5Wash the bowls thoroughly with non-aromac soap, and then rinse with water.
6Install new lters in bowls.
7Unplug feed water tubes from the two rst-stage membrane housings and put them in a
container for collecng rinse water. Plug the cord in mains and openfeed water valve 5.
Let enough water through the lters to ush out the carbon nes and dust. When run-
ning water becomes free of carbon parcles, close feed water valve. Plug the tubes back
in the inlets in membrane housings. Secure connecons with locking clips.
8Open feed valve and plug the system in the mains. Let the RO system run for some me
with open puried water faucet to wash o carbon nes from carbon post-lter. Close
puried water faucet when water appears clear and free of parculate impuries.
1Shut o feed water valve, close pressure tank valve (if used).
2Open puried water faucet to relieve pressure in the system. Remove power from the
system.
3Unplug tube from each membrane housing cap. Screw o the housing caps. Extract
used membranes from membrane housings and take note of their orientaon inside the
housings.
4Take new membranes and grease their brine seals and membrane housing cap O-ring-
seals.
CAUTION! Only use food grade glycerol or cered RO membrane compable lubricant
for greasing the seals to avoid damage.
5Install new RO membranes in housings observing proper orientaon of each.

8. TROUBLESHOOTING
Sanizaon of the reverse osmosis system is recommended aer it has been in operaon for an
extended period (over 6 months) or when the system is to be shut down for 3 weeks or longer. It is
also advisable to sanize the system when replacing lters.

6Screw on membrane housing caps.
7Plug tubes back in the housings.
8Open feed valve 5. Restore power supply to the system.
9Let the system run for 30 minutes to ush out membrane preservave. Then, close
puried water faucet and open pressure tank valve (if used).

in the bladder of empty tank
is less than 0.4 bar (5.8 psi),

Sanize pressure tank.

membranes are used beyond
their service life.
Pressure tank is not full when
