2 Product description
The ekinex
®
p esence detecto is a KNX S-mode device fo the indoo detection of occupancy and
movement of people, with an effective detection ange of 360° thanks to its th ee passive inf a ed (PIR)
senso s.
The detection ange can be fu the extended by employing mo e ekinex
®
p esence detecto devices as slave
units. Two channels C1 and C2 a e available fo the lighting function; these can be used to achieve a
constant b ightness cont ol by using C2 as an offset input espective to C1 (f om -50% to +50%).
The light intensity in constant b ightness cont ol is measu ed by the integ ated b ightness senso ; its value is
made available fo bus t ansmission in Lux units (2 byte). An o ientation light function can be p og ammed
with a standby value (in %) and a du ation value (in minutes o hou s).
The channel dedicated to HVAC applications allows the independent cont ol of te minal devices dedicated to
Heating, Ventilation and Ai -Conditioning.
The device is equipped with an integ ated bus communication module and is designed fo ceiling flush
mounting. Seve al ve sions a e available which diffe in the detection ange and in the lens and f ame type.
The device powe supply is taken f om the KNX bus and no auxilia y powe supply is equi ed.

2.3 Operation
The p esence detecto eacts to the the mal adiation emitted by moving bodies. A pe son that c osses the
monito ed a ea automatically activates the lighting. As soon as the senso does no longe detect any
movement, a delay is sta ted (whose du ation is configu ed th ough ETS) afte which the lighting is switched
off.
If the standby mode is active, the lighting is maintained at a lowe b ightness level as an o ientation light fo
the length of the configu ed standby time.
2.4 Light intensity measurement
The ambient light intensity is measu ed by an integ ated b ightness senso having a linea output p ofile and
an additional filte matched to the human visual sensitivity.
The light senso is capable of sending a bina y teleg am (On o Off) to signal a light intensity level which is
highe o lowe than a configu ed th eshold value, ega dless to the ope ation mode. The measu ed
b ightness level in Lux units can fu the be t ansmitted on the KNX bus.
2.5 Lighting channel
Two ope ating modes can be chosen fo the lighting channel du ing the configu ation phase:
•fully automatic
•semi-automatic
The fully automatic mode has th ee diffe ent states, i.e. ready, active and passive, whe eas the semi-
automatic mode only has the ready and active states. In semi-automatic mode, the lighting is not activated
afte the detection of a movement, but only afte p essing an exte nal pushbutton.
2.6 HVAC Channel
The HVAC channel has the same ope ating modes and communication objects as the lighting channel; the
detection of movement and p esence is enhanced though, int oducing the “long du ation” p inciple. The
detection is based on seve al time windows (f om 2 up to 20) of equal width; in eve y one of these windows
at least one movement must be detected in o de to yield a positive esponse.
