7. The software has now been installed on your computer.
The most important functions of the software that can not be set using the remote
control and TV or video monitor will be attended to in the following chapters of this
manual.
You will need a functional LAN network as described in chapter 3.3 to be able to use
the software.
5.0 Connecting the cameras to the EM6010
After setting the time and the security codes, you can connect the camera to the
EM6010. A maximum of four analogue cameras is supported. These need to be
connected to the INPUT ports 1 to 4 on the back of the EM6010.
5.1 Connecting the EM6020 or EM6025
For optimal use we recommend the Eminent EM6020 and EM6025 cameras. These
cameras can immediately be used in combination with the EM6010 and come
supplied with a clear multi lingual manual.
Consult the manual of the EM6020 or EM6025 for instructions on connecting.
5.2 Connecting another type of camera
You can of course also use a different type of camera. Thanks to the universal BNC
video ports you can connect virtually any type of analogue camera to the EM6010.
Keep in mind that other cameras may not be suited for use with the four way power
splitter!
5.3 Connecting an extra video monitor per camera
You can connect an extra camera to the ‘LOOP’ port. You can mount this camera in
such a way that visitors may see themselves on the video screen, making it clear that

10 | ENGLISH
there are security cameras. The ‘LOOP’ port is meant for analogue cameras equipped
with a BNC connection. Make sure you completely fasten the connector until you hear
a click. (This type of connector can only be fitted in one manner.)
5.4 Checking the camera image
If everything has been correctly connected you should now see an overview of 4
separate camera images on the connected monitor. If this is not the case, press the
‘4CH’ button on the remote control. The image of the cameras will be shown with the
number of the input in the lower left part of the screen. If there is no signal present on
the input, the EM6010 will show the message ‘VLOSS’ on a blue background.
To show the image of a specific camera full screen, press the number of the camera
on the remote control and wait two seconds. The image will then be shown full screen.
6.0 Recording
Now that the cameras have been installed you can set the EM6010 to record the
images. The EM6010 supports three methods of recording. Each method has its own
pros and cons.
6.1 Selecting the number of recorded cameras
To prevent a waste of hard disk space for cameras that are not connected, you will
need to follow these steps to specify which cameras are active.
1. Press the red ‘Menu’ button on the remote control.
2. Navigate to the ‘Advance’ menu using the arrow keys and press ‘Enter’.
3. Press the ‘Enter’ button again to open the ‘Camera’ menu.
4. Use the arrow keys to navigate to the third column called ‘REC’.
5. Use the ‘Enter’ button to set the camera to ‘ON’ or ‘OFF’. To save disk space you
will need to set unused cameras to ‘OFF’.
6. Press the ‘Menu’ button three times to leave the menu.
7. You have now specified which camera image will actually be recorded.
6.2 Determining recording strategy
Before you set the EM6010 to record images, you will need to determine a recording
strategy. Will you record the images constantly, or only at certain times? Should the
recorded images always flow smoothly or only when motion has been detected?
To make the right choice, a short explanation is needed. Your EM6010 is equipped
with a 160 GB hard disk. To record the image of one camera for 24 hours at its
highest resolution takes about 25 GB. Two cameras will take up twice as much disk
space, 50 GB. The highest setting uses 25 IPS (total number of images from all
cameras per second). At 12 IPS the image is still very watchable. This only takes up

11 | ENGLISH
half the amount of disk space. You can even choose to select 6 or 3 IPS. The use of
disk space will lower dramatically but the image will be a lot less smooth.
The table below is valid for a constant recording of images:

Fig.2 Disk usage and recording time at x IPS. (FRAME modus, Best quality)
With recordings at a rate of 25 IPS, actions such as theft are clearly visible. At a rate
of 12 IPS it will be less clear what exactly happens but there will still be more than
enough details. A 6 or 3 IPS recording does not contain enough images to clearly see
what is happening. Persons will be recognizable if they stand still long enough, but
actions can not be monitored.
The EM6010 is equipped with an advanced image processor and can automatically
switch between images per second during recording. This allows you to constantly
record at 3 IPS and switch to 25 IPS during interesting moments. This method of
recording is recommended if you wish to constantly record for as long as possible with
as less disk usage as possible.
Apart from the choice you have to make concerning IPS, you can also choose
between manual recording, time based recording and motion detection. All three
possibilities will be explained in the following chapters.
6.3 Manual recording
This option allows you to start recording the camera images at any given time. This
method uses small amounts of disk space, but only when it’s manually enabled and
disabled. This can be too exhaustive in a number of situations.
1. Press the red ‘Menu’ button on the remote control to open the menu of the
EM6010.
2. Press the ‘Enter’ button to open the ‘Record’ menu.
3. Choose the option ‘Record IMG Size’, and set it to ‘Frame’ using the ‘Enter’
button.
4. Choose the option ‘Record Quality’, and set it to ‘Best’ using the ‘Enter’ button.
5. Choose the option ‘Manual Record IPS’ and set it to (for instance) ’25 IPS’ using
the ‘Enter’ button. (Consult the table in chapter 6.2 to estimate the disk usage.)
6. Press the red ‘Menu’ button twice to leave the menu.

12 | ENGLISH
Using the remote control you can now start recording. If the Auto Keylock has been
enabled you will need the administrator code for this function. You can only end the
recording by setting the option ‘Manual Record’ in the ‘Record’ menu to ‘OFF’. For this
function you will also need the administrator code.
6.4 Time based recording
Time based recording allows you to only record during a specified time frame. This
option is comparable to manual recording, only now the recording will start or stop
automatically.
1. Press the red ‘Menu’ button on the remote control to open the menu of the
EM6010.
2. Press the ‘Enter’ button to open the ‘Record’ menu.
3. Choose the option ‘Record IMG Size’, nd set it to ‘Frame’ using the ‘Enter’ button.
4. Choose the option ‘Record Quality’, and set it to ‘Best’ using the ‘Enter’ button.
5. Choose the option ‘Timer Record IPS’ and set it to (for instance) ’12 IPS’ using
the ‘Enter’ button. (Consult the table in chapter 6.2 to estimate the disk usage.)
6. Press the red ‘Menu’ button twice to return to the menu.
7. Choose the option ‘Timer’ using the arrow keys.
8. Using the arrow keys you can select the field you wish to alter. The ‘+’ and ‘-‘
buttons allow you to change the values.
9. The ‘Date’ field lets you choose between a day, workdays or weekend.
10. Enter the start time and the end time between which the recording actually needs
to occur in the ‘Start’ field and the ‘End’ field.
11. Press the red ‘Menu’ button to return to the menu after setting the time frame.
12. Choose the option ‘Record’ using the arrow keys.
13. Choose the option ‘Timer Record Enable’ using the arrow keys.
14. Press ‘Enter’ to enable this option.
Hint: The EM6010 can switch between IPS’s. This function saves disk space because
smooth recordings will only be made when motion is detected. For instance: You can
set ‘Timer Record IPS’ to 3 IPS, and ‘Event Record IPS’ to 25 IPS. The recorder will
increase the IPS to 25 as soon as motion is detected.
6.5 Recording with motion detection
This option allows the EM6010 to start recording using motion detection. As soon as a
camera detects motion, the EM6010 starts recording images. If at that time a
recording is already running, the IPS will be temporarily increased during the motion
detection.

13 | ENGLISH
6.5.1 Configuring motion detection
1. Press the red ‘Menu’ button on the remote control to open the menu of the
EM6010.
2. Choose the option ‘Advance’, and press the ‘Enter’ button.
3. Choose the option ‘Detection’, and press the ‘Enter’ button.
4. Choose the option ‘Detection Setup’, and press the ‘Enter’ button.
5. Choose the option ‘Setup’ for the concerning camera.

LS: General sensitivity. Lower values are more sensitive.
Default value: 7
SS: Sensitivity area. Determines in how many blocks motion needs to occur.
Default value: 3
TS: Time sensitivity. Determines how long a certain object may be active in the
detection area before detection and recording occurs. Lower values are
more sensitive. Default value: 2
RE: Reference sensitivity. Determines how many images will be watched to
establish whether motion is occurring. Higher values are more sensitive. The
maximum is 61 images.
ALARM: Determines the polarity of the alarm output on the EM6010. Default setting
is off.
(The general settings for motion detection are usually sufficient for the motion
detection to function correctly.)

8.0 Extensive network functions
As stated earlier, the EM6010 is equipped with a network port. This allows it to be
managed and configured from within a LAN network. You can accomplish this both by
using the ‘Video Server E’ software (supplied on CD-ROM), or by using a standard
Internet browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.
8.1 Managing the EM6010 using a web browser
When using a web browser the same functions are available as when you would use a
TV or video monitor. However, the video quality has been adjusted for being displayed
over a network and therefore a little less sharp and smooth as would be when shown
on an analogue monitor.
1. Open an Internet browser, for instance Internet Explorer.
2. Enter the network address of the EM6010 in the address bar (the default
address is http://192.168.1.10, unless it has been changed)
3. A login screen will appear.

17 | ENGLISH
4. Enter ‘admin’ in both the username and password fields and click ‘Submit’.
5. Depending on your security settings your Internet browser may ask you to install
a browser plug-in. This is normal and you need to allow/confirm this installation.
6. After a few seconds the managing page will appear
Using the remote control on the left part of the screen you can manage the EM6010.
These functions are identical to using a real monitor or remote control. If an analogue
monitor is connected at the same time, the settings you change using the computer
will also be shown on this monitor.
8.2 Using the Video Server software
If you have installed the supplied Video Server software, you can use it to manage the
EM6010. The Video Server software functions the same way as managing page,
except the software allows for a couple of extra functions that can not be set using the
web page or the remote control. We will explain these functions below.

install the player.
9.0 Frequently asked questions
Q: There is a sort of VGA port (D/V) on the back of the DVR. What is it for?
A: It is not possible to directly connect a VGA to the D/V port. This port is meant for an
optional VGA modulator. (A modulator converts video data to a, for a VGA monitor
recognizable, signal. This modulator is equipped with a port for your VGA monitor.)
Q: I see an audio IN/OUT on the EM6010. What is it for?
A: If you connect a camera with a microphone, you can connect the audio cable of the
microphone to the AUDIO IN. When a recording is made, both video and audio will be.
AUDIO OUT can be used to playback the sound of a recording, by connecting a pair
of loudspeakers.
Q: Can I connect a USB hard disk to the EM6010 ?
A: The maximum supported size of the USB medium is two gigabyte. The EM6010
has been tested with both the EM7023 and the EM7025 housing. These function
correctly up to the supported 2 gigabyte.

20 | ENGLISH
Q: My hard disk keeps filling up. This one is too small. Can I place another disk in the
EM6010?
A: It is possible to place a larger (IDE) disk. Make sure the disk is set to ‘Master’ or
‘Single’.
Q: When I playback recordings, the image seems to jolt. How do I solve this?
A: The quality of the recording depends on the IPS. If a recording is made with a low
IPS the playback will seem to jolt or stutter. Recordings of 25 IPS are the most
smooth.
Q: When I playback recordings made at night, the image is very bad. It seems to be
overexposed. How is this possible?
A: One or more cameras are to close to a window or another glass object. In the dark
the reflection of the infrared light may be visible. If so, move the camera further away
from the glass or window.
Q: If I enter the IP address of the EM6010 in the address bar of Windows Explorer I
can open the login screen, but I can not see a live view.
A: From within the windows Explorer it is not possible to get a live view. This only
works when you use Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or another Internet browser,
and enter the IP address in the address bar.
Q: I am using a Macintosh/Windows computer. I can not get a live view when using
Safari or Internet Explorer. What can I do?
A: Try to install a different browser such as Mozilla Firefox. Maybe there is a problem
with the settings of Internet Explorer. For Windows you can download Firefox from
www.mozilla.com. For a Macintosh you can download Firefox from
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html.
Q: Can I quickly change between the different camera views on my monitor?
A: Yes you can. By pressing the ‘+’ and ‘-‘ buttons on the remote control you can
quickly change between cameras.
Q: Can I zoom in using this system?
A: Yes you can. The EM6010 supports digital zoom. Press the number of the camera
on the remote control. The specified camera image will appear full screen. Press the
red ‘Digital Zoom’ button on the remote control. A zoomed in image will now be
displayed.
