Scenario I: Full Backplane - One Managed Ring
Number of Networks:
ONE
Installation:
new MMAC hub
STN Interface:
not used
MIM Types:
single-ring (TRMIM, TRRMIM)
1. Set switch #1 for speed of FNB ring 1 interface (4 or 16 Mbps).
2.
Insert TRMM-2 into Slot 1 and
tighten knurled knobs
.
3. Set ring speed jumper on each new MIM to match switch #1.
4. Install MIMs and
tighten knurled knobs
.
5. Access the Local Management System Level screen and assign an IP
address to the TRMM-2. Save the changes.
TRMM-2 then resets itself and installation is complete.

Scenario IV: PortAssignment Multi-FNB
Number of Networks:
TWO
Installation:
new MMAC hub
STN Interface:
Network 2 connection
MIM Types:
multi-ring (TRXMIM, TDRMIM)
1. Using switches #1, 2, 3, 7, and 8, set ring speeds (4 or 16 Mbps) for
each FNB ring and for the STATION interface.
2. Insert TRMM-2 into Slot 1 and
tighten knurled knobs
.
3. Install all TRXMIMs and TDRMIMs and
tighten knurled knobs
.
4. Access Local Management Chassis Status View screen, switch the
screen to Port Assignment mode, and make desired port-assignments
to FNB rings. Switch at least one lobe port onto FNB ring 2, 3, or 4 for
the STATION interface.
5. Attach the STATION interface cable to a port-assigned lobe port.
Refer to the STATION Assignment Rules below.
6. Access the Local Management System Level screen and complete the
STN assignment field to indicate the location of the STATION
interface connection.
7. Access the Local Management System Level screen and assign an IP
address to the TRMM-2. Save the changes.
TRMM-2 then resets itself and installation is complete.
STATION Assignment Rules:
The STATION port interface must be inserted only into a lobe
port on a ring that is isolated from the TRMM-2’s FNB ring 1
interface.
If using a port-assigned lobe port, that lobe port must be assigned
to a ring other than FNB ring 1.
If using a lobe port on a single-ring MIM, the backplane must be
split somewhere between the MIM and the TRMM-2.
If using a lobe port in a different hub, the destination ring must
not be joined by ring in / ring out connection with FNB ring 1.

Scenario II: Split Backplane - Dual Managed Rings
Number of Networks:
TWO
Installation:
new MMAC hub
STN Interface:
Network 2 connection
MIM Types:
single-ring (TRMIM, TRRMIM)
1. Set switch #1 for speed of FNB ring 1 interface (4 or 16 Mbps), and
set switch #2 for speed of STATION interface.
2. Insert TRMM-2 into Slot 1 and
tighten knurled knobs
.
3. Set ring speed jumper on each new MIM to match the ring speeds of
the TRMM-2’s FNB and STATION interfaces.
4. Install MIMs and
tighten knurled knobs
.
5. Access Local Management Chassis Status View screen, switch the
screen to Administrative mode, and split the FNB backplane by left-
and right-wrapping the MIMs on either side of the desired backplane
split.
6. Attach the STATION interface cable to a Network 2 location. Refer to
the STATION Assignment Rules on page 4.
7. Access the Local Management System Level screen and complete the
STN assignment field to indicate the location of the STATION
interface connection.
8. Access the Local Management System Level screen and assign an IP
address to the TRMM-2. Save the changes.
TRMM-2 then resets itself and installation is complete.
Scenario III: TRMM/TRMMIM Replacement
Number of Networks:
TWO
Installation:
MMAC hub with TRMM/TRMMIM
STN Interface:
Network 2 connection
MIM Types:
single-ring (TRMIM, TRRMIM)
and an additional MIM to replace
TRMMIM
1. Set switch #1 for speed of FNB ring 1 interface (4 or 16 Mbps), and
set switch #2 for speed of STATION interface.
2. Replace TRMM with TRMM-2 and
tighten knurled knobs
.
3. Access Local Management Chassis Status View screen, switch the
screen to Administrative mode, and split the FNB backplane by left-
wrapping the MIM at the right side of the TRMMIM.
Do this even
though the MIM already appears to be wrapped
.
4. Set ring speed jumper on the new MIM to match the desired ring
speed.
5. Replace the TRMMIM with a single-ring MIM for increased port
density and
tighten knurled knobs
.
6. Access Local Management Chassis Status View screen, switch the
screen to Administrative mode, and right-wrap the newly installed
MIM.-OR- Ifinstead youwant tosplit theFNB backplaneelsewhere,
left- and right-wrap the MIMs on either side of the desired backplane
split and unwrap the MIM you wrapped in step 3.
7. Attach the STATION interface cable to a Network 2 location. Refer to
the STATION Assignment Rules on page 4.
8. Access the Local Management System Level screen and complete the
STN assignment field to indicate the location of the STATION
interface connection.
9. Access the Local Management System Level screen and assign an IP
address to the TRMM-2. Save the changes.
TRMM-2 then resets itself and installation is complete.
