These instructions contain important information on correct and
safe assembly of the awning. Make sure to read them in their
entirety before installing the awning. Failure to do so may other-
wise result in injury or damage to the awning. When passing on the
awning to a third party, make sure that these instructions are also
included.
Illustrations in these instructions are intended to convey a general
understanding and may differ from the actual design.

1 KD and KD-double folding arm awning
Variants
The Erhardt KD folding arm awning is the KD-
series standard version with a single shading ele-
ment (canopy).
The Erhardt KD-double folding arm awning
(
Ä
“Erhardt KD-double folding arm awning”
on page 6) is an expanded version of the
standard awning and includes an additional vertical
shading element (valance).

The cassette (Fig. 1/1) is attached to the bearing surface by the
consoles (Fig. 1/4). The drop bar (Fig. 1/3) is connected to the
folding arms (below the canopy) and the canopy (Fig. 1/2).
Pressing a directional button causes the drop bar and the canopy
to extend or retract.
The electric drive can optionally be controlled through permanent
wiring with directional buttons, through a switch knob, by radio
remote control or by an automatic controller.

The cassette (Fig. 2/1) is attached to the bearing surface by the
consoles (Fig. 2/4). The drop bar (Fig. 2/3) is connected to the
folding arms (below the canopy) and the canopy (Fig. 2/2).
Pressing a directional button causes the end rail and the canopy to
extend or retract. If required, the valance (Fig. 2/6) can be lowered
for additional shading in any position. The weighting bar (Fig. 2/5)
pulls the valance downwards and ensures that it does not flap.
The electric drive can optionally be controlled by radio remote con-
trol or by an automatic controller.
The valance’s electric drive is controlled through the WEP trans-
mitter/receiver module.
Optional ambient lighting for the awning is available in the form of
LED strips that are installed permanently in the cassette; these can
be dimmable. The ambient lighting is operated using a radio
remote control.

2.2 Intended use
The awning is an outdoor shading system and may be used only
as such. The awning can be optionally fitted with ambient
lighting.
Intended use includes following all the information in this manual
and the other applicable documents.
Improper use of the awning can result in dangerous situations.

WARNING!
Hazard posed by improper use!
Improper use of the awning and the optional LED
stripes can result in dangerous situations.
– Applying additional loads to the awning by sus-
pending objects from or leaning objects against
the awning or by tying ropes to it may cause
damage to the awning or cause it to collapse.
– Any modification or conversion not approved by
the manufacturer shall be deemed improper
use.
– Disassembling the optional ambient lighting and
connection components shall be deemed
improper use.
Any use that goes beyond intended use or that is not covered by
intended use is considered improper use.
The awning may be operated by children eight
years or older as well as by persons with physical,
sensory or mental disabilities or with a lack of
experience and knowledge, provided they do so
under supervision or have been instructed in han-
dling the awning safely and have understood the
corresponding risks.
nMake sure that children never play with the awning.
nKeep the radio remote control out of children’s reach.
nCleaning may never be performed by children.

Work performed improperly on the awning’s elec-
trical components can result in serious or fatal
injury.
– Work on the electrical components must be per-
formed by qualified electricians only.
– Electrical components may only be connected if
the specifications on the type plate match the
power supply voltage.
– Observe the enclosed documentation for the
electrical components.

WARNING!
Risk of injury due to static charge!
The awning fabric can accumulate a strong
charge. Skin contact may result in static discharge,
in turn posing a consequential risk, e.g. through
falling.
– Equalise potentials by touching non-conductive
materials.
WARNING!
Risk of damage to eyes due to direct eye con-
tact with the lamp
Longer eye contact with a switched-on lamp can
damage the eyes.
– Avoid direct eye contact with the lamp.

Danger due to failure to heed warnings in other

WARNING!
Risk of falling and injury when working at
heights!
Working at heights and on climbing aids poses a
risk of injury due to falling.
– Use suitable safety gear.
– Never fasten or lean climbing aids on the
awning.
– Use climbing aids that stand firmly and offer suf-
ficient handholds.
– Never hold on to the awning.
WARNING!
Hazard posed by lifting the awning!
When lifting the awning, e.g. using ropes, there is
a risk of fatal injury through crushing.
– Securely attach the ropes to the awning.
– Make sure that the awning cannot slip free of
the ropes.
– Keep the awning horizontal when lifting it.
– Do not enter the danger zone beneath the load.

WARNING!
Risk of injury due to improper disassembly or
reassembly!
Improper disassembly or reassembly poses an
increased risk of injury due to moving parts or
working at height.
– Have disassembly/reassembly be performed
only by a qualified fitter.
– If reassembly is planned, make sure that all of
the awning’s documentation is available.
Request any missing documents from Erhardt.
– Make sure sufficient space is available before
beginning work.
– Handle exposed, sharp-edged components with
care.
– Keep the workspace tidy and clean! Loosely
stacked or scattered components and tools
pose a risk of accident.
– Disassemble components properly. Note that
some of the components are heavy. If neces-
sary, use lifting gear.
– Secure components to prevent them from falling
or toppling over.
– Consult Erhardt in any cases of doubt.

WARNING!
Risk of injury if wind class is exceeded!
When the wind class is exceeded, the awning may
tear free and cause serious injury. The awning’s
wind class depends decisively on the type and
quantity of fastening elements and the properties
of the bearing surface.
– Only use the awning up to the wind class speci-
fied by the manufacturer.
– In windy regions subject to frequent power grid
failure, install a back-up power supply.
NOTICE!
Property damage due to deep discharge of the
battery pack!
The drive motor for the Erhardt KD-double awning
valance is fitted with an inductive battery pack. If
the awning is disconnected from the power supply
for a long period, and especially at low tempera-
tures, there is a risk of deep discharge.
– Only disconnect the awning from the power
supply in an emergency.
NOTICE!
Risk of property damage when extending the
awning!
When extending the awning, there is a risk of it
falling or becoming damaged.
– Remove fallen leaves and other foreign objects
from the awning.
– Do not extend the awning in freezing weather or
when it is snowing.
– Remove any obstacles.

Industrial helmet
Industrial helmets protect the head against falling objects, swinging
loads and impacts with fixed objects.
Protective goggles
Protective goggles serve to protect the eyes from flying debris and
splashes of liquid.
Safety shoes
Safety shoes protect the feet from crushing, from dropping parts,
and from slipping on slippery floors.
Qualified fitter
A qualified fitter has the technical skills and experience as well as
knowledge of the applicable standards and regulations required to
perform work on awnings and to recognise and avoid potential haz-
ards.
A qualified fitter has training and experience in the following fields:
nWork health and safety, industrial safety and accident preven-
tion regulations
nHandling ladders and scaffolds
nHandling and transport of long, heavy components
nHandling tools and machines
nInstalling attachment elements
nAssessment of building fabric
nCommissioning and operating the product
The permanent electrical wiring may be installed by an officially
qualified electrician only.

3 Preparing for assembly
ESD protection
Observe the ESD protection during awning
assembly! This can be done by wearing ESD
gloves, for example.
At least two people are required to assemble the
awning.

1. Check that the scope of delivery is complete.
2. Check the bearing surface’s load bearing capacity.
3.
Suitable fastening materials
–When installing outdoors, use stainless
steel bolts.
–In the vicinity of swimming pools, use
galvanised steel bolts to counter the risk
of corrosion posed by higher chlorine con-
tent in the air.
–To prevent contact corrosion, do not use
steel and stainless steel parts together.
Keep suitable fastening materials to hand (not included in
scope of supply).

4 Mounting the awning

1. Determine the mounting height of the console.
Positioning
–Make sure a sufficient distance remains to
other objects when the awning is fully
extended (Fig. 8/X).
–Make sure there is sufficient headroom
beneath the awning (Fig. 8/Y). In public
spaces, observe the applicable regula-
tions.
2. Align the consoles horizontally.
The wall console enlargement (six fastening
screws) can be used if the mounting surface
does not offer enough support with four fas-
tening screws per console or if an element of
the building has to be bridged (e.g. expan-
sion joint).
Use a spirit level or a drawstring for hori-
zontal alignment of the fastening holes.

3. Transfer the hole pattern (Fig. 10).
4. Drill the holes for attaching the console (Fig. 11).
5. Screw the consoles to the bearing surface (Fig. 12).
