CSI-1 Intercom Instructions
The SPSIS is a compact intercom system designed for high security applications. It was designed for single point to point
communication. It’s weather and vandal resistant.
Master and Slave unit mounting and location
The Master and slave units are designed to fit in most single gang boxes. Note- the units have no mounting angle
adjustment so the installer must install the mounting box squarely. It is also important that there is enough distance
between the remote and base unit so that acoustic feedback does not occur. The rule of thumb here is that if you are at
the master unit and can hear a person talking at the remote location at all without the intercom powered up, you will get
feedback.
Cable Run
Run a Cat5 cable between the master and slave units. Keep this cable run at or below 1000 feet. Wire each end per
T568A or T568B ethernet straight-through connection standards. See figure 1.
Power supply
The master unit comes with a 15Vdc AC adapter. Locate this power supply within 100 feet of the master unit. If you need
to lengthen the cable, use #20 or #22 cable. Note that the input to the Master is polarity sensitive but cannot be damaged
by reversing polarity. When the power supply is connected and if the on board blue power indicator does not come on,
reverse the wires.
Adjusting the level controls
Do not adjust the level control on the Slave (remote) unit. Once installed, power up the master unit. If there is no
feedback, try communicating with someone at the remote unit. If the volumes are too low, Adjust the “remote mic volume”
clockwise until the volume is acceptable or feedback whining is heard, then counterclockwise slightly until the feedback
just stops. Then press and hold the push to talk (PTT) switch and adjust the “remote spkr volume” using the same
method.
Call Tone adjustment
If your slave unit came with a call switch, press this button and adjust the “call tone vol” to an acceptable level on the
master unit. Note- the call tone will repeat every 5 seconds until the talk switch on the master unit is pressed.
OTT Tone adjustment
The CSI-1 features a tone function that alerts the user at the remote site that the user at the base unit has finished talking
and has released the PTT switch. Two quick succession beeps follow every PTTswitch press. The volume of the tone is
adjusted with the “OTT tone vol” control. If you do not want the tones to be heard, adjust the control fully counter
clockwise.
Listen mute
You can turn off the “always listening” feature of the master unit. Simply tap the PTT switch quickly and the remote
microphone will be muted and the front LED of the base unit will begin to flash. To unmute, tap the PTT switch again.
Auto Mute Timer Adjustment
You can adjust this control to automatically mute the master listen function after the PTT button has been released
anywhere from 3-60 seconds. Adjust this control fully clockwise if you don not wish to use the auto mute function.
