PURPOSE | AREA OF APPLICATION
SAFETY INFORMATION
The COMMUTE A.I.R. PRO, fitted with the MINERVA AIRBAG SYSTEM and our integrated
LITESHIELD PLUS back protector, has been specially designed for daily cycling commutes to
school/college, work or shopping destinations, for instance.
The backpack, when used as personal protective equipment, may only be used together with the
pre-fitted MINERVA AIRBAG SYSTEM from Minerva-AS GmbH. The purpose of the airbag system
is to reduce potential serious injuries caused by falls onto the chest. The airbag system cannot
guarantee protection in all circumstances. These includes, for example, direct collisions with
objects where the cyclist does not fall off the bicycle. The airbag system is not a substitute for
wearing a helmet while cycling. The airbag system is designed for use in an optimum temp-
erature range of between 0°C and +40°C.
Note: Large fluctuations within the stated temperature range could potentially be detrimental to
the mechanical performance of the PPE.
Carefully read operating instructions
before use
and keep them for the duration of
use!
RESTRICTIONS ON USE / EXCLUSION
The COMMUTE A.I.R. PRO is designed and certified exclusively for the context of use described
in the paragraph “Purpose | Field of application”. The backpack is not suitable for other purpos-
es, in particular mountain biking, downhill cycling, BMX, motor sports or for use on motorised
vehicles such as scooters, quads, Segways or other comparable sports.

MINERVA AIRBAG SYSTEM
FUNCTIONALITY
The MINERVA AIRBAG SYSTEM is a sensor-controlled airbag protector,
the operating principle of which is based on reducing impact forces acting in the event of a fall.
The system was developed specifically for daily cycling commutes, e.g. to work, an educational
facility or similar.
The rechargeable sensor system analyses the position and orientation of the backpack – and
therefore that of the rider – over 1,000 times per second. When the defined triggering parameters
are reached, the system reacts and the inflator fills the airbag with air within a few milliseconds.
This develops the airbag’s full protective effect for the rider’s chest.
In the event of deployment, and once the airbag has been checked for damage, the system can
be reused again with a new inflator. The system may only be used with the MINERVA INFLATOR.
TECHNICAL PARAMETERS
• Airbag volume: 18 litres
• Under 200 ms to full inflation of the airbag
• 32 hours battery life
• Optimal application and temperature range from 0°C to + 40°C
Important information
The COMMUTE A.I.R. PRO is only capable of reducing the risk of serious injury caused by an
impact if it is worn correctly. Please observe the section“Correct fit | Adjust backpack”. No
modifications may be made to the backpack, the airbag system or the back protector to ensure
that the protective function is guaranteed in all circumstances. Modifications will invalidate all
warranty claims. The flexibility of the back protector is ensured by its surface material proper-
ties; however, the protector should not be bent.

Adjust backpack for correct t
Before charging the system and inserting the
inflator, adjust the COMMUTE A.I.R. PRO to
your individual upper body length. The airbag
and back protector only provide protection for
your chest and back in the areas they cover.
The best possible protection is only guaran-
teed when the backpack is in the optimal and
intended position.
INITIAL USE
Fig. 4.2
Put on the backpack with the shoulder strap,
chest strap and hip belt loosened. Place the
height-adjustable and flexible hip belt on the
hip bone and close the hook and loop fastener.
Now close the hip belt clip fastener and pull
the hip belt until it fits snugly (Fig. 4.1).
If the hip belt height needs adjusting for
optimal fit, reach under the back section on
both sides in the lower third and loosen the
hook and loop fastener. Adjust the height and
then press the hook and loop fastener firmly
back into place so that a secure connection
is created and the desired position is fixed
(Fig. 4.2).

Then tighten the shoulder straps. (Fig. 4.3).
Now adjust the height-adjustable chest strap
so it sits above the chest. Close the chest strap
triggering buckle and tighten it firmly so that
the backpack fits as snugly as possible against
your back (Fig. 4.5).
Ensure that all straps and buckles are tight fit-
ting when closed to avoid snagging during use.
The PPE must always be used with the chest
and hip belts closed. The protective effect
cannot otherwise be guaranteed.

Fig. 4.3
Fig. 4.5
Ensure that the backpack fits as snugly as
possible to your upper body, even if the hip belt
is slightly above the hip bones (Fig. 4.4).
Only in this way can it be ensured that the
backpack – and thus the airbag – are correctly
positioned.

10
Charging the system and connecting the inator
Before using the COMMUTE A.I.R. PRO for the first
time, charge the MINERVA AIRBAG SYSTEM fully.
To do this, open the backpack’s main compartment
and also the airbag compartment within to access
the system’s triggering unit (Fig. 5.1/ Fig. 5.2).
Remove the triggering unit’s USB cover and charge
the system using the USB-C charging cable supplied.
The LED on the chest strap triggering buckle now
flashes red to indicate that charging is in progress.
This LED extinguishes as soon as the battery is fully
charged.
Always ensure that you regularly charge the system
to ensure it functions properly. Follow the more
detailed descriptions in the section “Activating and
deactivating the system”.
INITIAL USE
Once the system is fully charged, unplug the cable
and close the USB socket (Fig. 3). You can now con-
nect the inflator (Fig. 5.3 a-c).
Before connecting, ensure that the top of the chest
strap triggering buckle is locked in its intended park
position on the right shoulder strap (Fig. 2.3).

without much resistance; the correct position is
confirmed when you hear it click into place. Secure
the inflator by pushing the locking pin completely into
position (Fig. 5.3c).
The entire system unit can now be stowed back into
the airbag compartment (Fig. 5.4).
Ensure that the unit is stowed in the black neoprene
sleeve provided inside the compartment (Fig. 5.4a);
this will hold the system unit in position in the event
of deployment.
Now close the airbag compartment zip.
Your COMMUTE A.I.R. PRO is now ready for operation
(Fig. 5.5).

EN
Activating and deactivating the system
The MINERVA AIRBAG SYSTEM is activated and deactivated by closing the chest strap triggering
buckle (Fig. 6).
Closing the triggering buckle initiates a system check during which the battery charge status
as well as the functionality of the inflator is checked. The LED on the lower half of the triggering
buckle flashes green as soon as the system is ready for use and has an available battery life of
over 4 hours.
• Ensure that the system is only activated while you are cycling!
• In all other cases, ensure that the top of the chest strap triggering buckle is locked in the
intended park position on the right shoulder strap (Fig. 2.3)!
• Use the COMMUTE A.I.R. PRO only when the LED indicates that it is ready for use!

REUSING THE MINERVA AIRBAG SYSTEM
The following descriptions can also be found in the form of video instructions by scanning the
QR code above.
Folding the airbag
Open the airbag compartment within the main compartment (Fig. 5.1), pull out the triggering unit
along with the inflator, remove the inflator and fit it with the corresponding protective cap (Fig. 5.3 a-c).
Compressing the airbag causes the residual air to escape. Repeat this process until the air has
been fully evacuated from the airbag.
Place the backpack on a flat surface with the back section and shoulder straps facing upwards.
Now fully open the zip on the shoulder straps once, before zipping the slider back from the left
to the right shoulder strap (Fig. 7.1). Re-insert it there and close the zip by 2 – 3 cm.
Spread the airbag out to its full size (Fig. 7.2).

MAINTENANCE
Care | Cleaning
To clean your COMMUTE A.I.R. PRO, first remove the MINERVA AIRBAG SYSTEM from the
backpack.
Removing and retting the MINERVA AIRBAG SYSTEM
Initially, ensure that the system is deactivated by placing the chest strap in the park position (Fig.
2.3). Now remove the inflator and fit it with the appropriate protective cap (Fig. 5.3 a-c).
•Always ensure that you FIRST remove the inator before removing the system!
Now open the airbag compartment to above both shoulder straps by undoing the central hook
and loop fastener and unzipping the zip over its white central burst section. When the airbag is
exposed, undo the eight fasteners between the airbag and the backpack. The airbag is attached
to the backpack with four such fasteners on each side. Both the tabs and fasteners are
numbered for safer and easier reassembly of the system (Fig. 8).
Fig. 8
Now reach into the airbag compartment and disconnect the plug connector between the
triggering unit and triggering buckle cables (Fig. 9). Also remove the triggering buckle from the
shoulder straps. The triggering unit and airbag can now be removed upwards from the airbag
compartment.
Although the system is splash-proof, please avoid direct contact between the triggering unit
and water or liquids. If the airbag is dirty, it can be cleaned using a damp cloth.
Wash the backpack and back protector by hand (max. 30°C) using gentle detergents (neutral
soap). Allow the backpack to air dry – do not machine dry or use other heat sources.
Be aware that machine washing will void the warranty.
EN

20
Storage | Transport
For transporting or storing the COMMUTE A.I.R. PRO, the system must be deactivated.
Place the chest strap in the park position on the right shoulder strap to prevent accidental
system activation. Deeply discharging the battery should be avoided; a charge level of 50% – 80%
is optimal, which you can read out via the app.
Store the dry backpack with the triggering unit in a dry place, out of the reach of children,
at 15°C – 20°C, protected from UV light and away from corrosive or aggressive agents.
Carrying the COMMUTE A.I.R. PRO on aircraft is permitted according to IATA (International Air
Transport Association), subject to registration with the respective airline.
Service life | Disposal
The service life of the COMMUTE A.I.R. PRO depends largely on its degree of use. A service life
of five years following the date of manufacture applies to the LITESHIELD PLUS back protector
as well as to the MINERVA AIRBAG SYSTEM. If the period of use is exceeded, please contact
EVOC Sports GmbH.
We generally recommend that the COMMUTE A.I.R. PRO should be serviced once a year by the
manufacturer. Please also contact the manufacturer in order to dispose of the system and return it.
We are pleased to recycle empty inflators; please contact our service team.
